Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I am fortunate to be able to farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. Occasionally I'll get my dad in a video as well. While I am the 4th generation in my family to farm some of what we are still farming today, I really credit my dad with making our farm what it is. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.
Please enjoy my content and ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can. Thanks for watching!
I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and liking my videos. You can also find me on Facebook borderviewfarms and on Instagram @borderviewfarms
The armchair farmers know it all ! They have unlimited money and answers. You guys do the work just fine . It might not always be the right method for me but it gets done . Keep up the good work!
We’re not suggesting to harvest the hirers. Or hire harvesters. Lol. Keep on keeping on!
You are doing awesome, Nathan!! Keep doing things on your own. Keep having fun and raising your kids the way you are and farming the way you are.
Good 👍 morning my friend Nathan yall have a great day
Congrats on being done with wheat harvest, turned out to be a pretty good crop despite how it looked back in the fall.
Awesome that you are self sufficient
Another great one ,nice to see boys taking part.
Go Brock, you passed the test! 👍
Lots of naysayers out here. Nathan you've proved your capabilities over and over. Haters gotta hate.
I don’t double crop beans anymore. When I was land locked and afraid of losing orders from organic buyers I did, but now that we have the ground, that recharge with cover crops and the beef gain is the way to go.
I mainly listen to you talk about farming. Like listening about farming in your area
Hey !? I've made many of those suggestions and I would thank you to not be so dismissive of these little gems that I care to share.🤣🤣🤣🤣
The boys have a different idea about the longevity of the protective carpet cover in the 8rx? They are a handful, how does your Dad do it?
Great video good to see you again
4:17 ***NOT*** *POWER LADDER* !!!! lol GOOD MORNING NATHAN AND CREW!!! THIS MEANz YOU TOO!!!
The black dust has been around for decades. Back in the 70's we wouldn't have it every year but enough so that teenagers generally ran the combine and looked like coal miners after a day of harvest. Of course back then we would have a lot of operations going on during that time. We'd combine and haul wheat, mow, rake and bale the stubble, and if we were before the 4th, try and no-till some soybeans.
It looks like its worth switching fungicides even if there is no yield difference just to keep the combine & your hands clean :)
Time to teach the boys to wear safety glasses? RE the 2 of the running the leaf blower.
Don’t pay em attention your awesome man
arm chair quarterbacks will always love to spend your money for you.
Great video. I guess we know that grandpa allows parties in the combine lol. The gopro footage was pretty cool but after your drone video the other day flying around the combine you set the bar pretty high.
I couldnt imagine a farmer hiring out all the small tasks on the farm. I guess you just have to know your limits is all.
Ur doing a good job, don't pay them any mind
Have you ever thought about cutting your wheat at about 30-% moisture drying if down so you could it off earlier and plant beans.
No wouldn't be able to get it through the combine at that moisture.
@@BorderViewFarms we cut do it at 20-25 here in west Kentucky
We've did 24% done about a truck load mill told us cut it to beat the rain said we want the quality but dang. They only take off shrink so wasn't bad
Can you explain how the clean water act in NW Ohio effects how you farm at your other farm. Keep up the awesome videos and drone shots. Best ones on YT. John Deere should hire ya
The problem is they don’t understand farming you guys are doing a good job don’t worry about these idiots
i don’t know about you Nathan but that 8rx is still so cool to see in the field. but i think a used 8rt on 30in tracks would be awesome for that grain cart.
Nice 👍🏻👍🏻
Overall Nathan, how did the new header sensors work for ya? worth the investment would you say?? Have a good day.
You should hire a film crew
Nice video 🙂
We who have been hear from the beginning know you, Dad, Jack and Phil for the great farmers you are, ignore the armchair farmers and keep on doing what you all do. 👍
Here 🍻 here!
Never hire anyone to do what you can very smart
If you paid someone to do everything you would always be waiting and you would definitely be broke . I'm guessing your Johndeere dealer is around 130 per hour . Remember the good Ole days of 80 an hour
Rye vs clover which is best for cover crop and why? Love to hear your thoughts on the difference
You have section control on that manifold? 🤔
Lol yeah actually I do, but it's a manual control valve 🤣🤣🤣
Hi Nathan, in the second last clip is sounded like the grain dryer running ? how much of you wheat did you have to dry ?
Thanks
It was. We ran most of the wheat through the dryer however a lot of it had very little or no heat added. Just used the fan to blow air for a couple hours.
What was the overall average for wheat, is it better than most years?
The wheat was much better than we thought it was going to be early in the year. I would say we were right about our average
Say there u wouldn't have an Xtra cap seed Golden harvesting

I would not pay any attention those basement dwellers cuz thats what farmers do they work the farm unlike people today who don't know how to work geez it gets too me why they want to tell u how work ur own farm
It amazes me as well how useless people have become.
