Jay, setup for a back is everything. You gotta get closer to your target area before you start making your turns to get into the slot. You have ALOT of room. Use as much of it as possible. You have a decent technique but your making it so much harder on yourself then it has to be. Just trying to help out. From one trucker to another

I don't think trucking schools teach 45 degree backing any more at least ky don't they teach parallel parking which we never use .it's a learning process Jay just take your time and accept the tips from experienced drivers thanks for the videos and be safe

I payed a monthly subscription to trucker path and it still navigated me through residential neighborhoods. Bought a gps immediately.

Mount the gps at the bottom of the windshield between the hood mirrors, they’re not blocking your vision of the mirrors.

Man this is a very good video glad u got a Garmin u needed it and u headed to New Jersey which mean u can see the famous rest area Vince Lombardi . Also make sure u got that cb on it safes life’s and I’m glad u going home be safe u Should also get a dash cam because folks be clipping trucks and it’s always to be safe on the road and show proof of what happend
CFI already has a dashcam in the trucks.
Go to the settings on your garmin and double check you set it up with the truck measurements also you have to give it an update when you first open it out the box I had the same issue and it was exactly what I’m telling you I hope you can figure it out.
On that Garmin you'll notice the setting will say commercial trucks or Auto in the routing selection in the settings menu
You could always go to your cell phone Carrier and purchase a small tablet and dedicated to your GPS. Both ramic Nally and garments suck!! Then buy a Ram mount to mount it.

If you still have that truck icon bruned on your screen you can leave your phone open with a blank white screen for like an hour or 2 and it should fix it 😅
if you ever wonder if the landing gear is on the concrete drop pad. Look at the trailer next to yours b4 you back up and use it as a guide of were the landing gear will be on your trailer.

Your garmon probably needs to be updated. Also should have went with the 10” Garmin dezl.
Line drive tires with hole hard right get straight stop get out look be line up into hole.
You can save your phone screen by turning the brightness down a little. I keep my iPhone 12 Pro Max set just below max brightness and it works great.
I have my down below 50% at night at 1%
So at that truck stop there is a road just a couple second farther down that will take you around to the front area of the fuel island. Use to stop there every night when I went to jellco mount post office.
Slide them tandems forward when you’re driving/backing. Once you’re in the spot then slide them back if needed. Also try setting yourself up for more 45s and straight backs when possible. A lot of the time you have the room but go for a 90. It works and you get it done but you’re making it 10x harder than it needs to be. Good luck driver

That's what I noticed too. If you're able swing your drivers side close and as straight as possible at fist to your target then swing right. Get the back of the trailer as close to the hole as possible before backing in. There's 100 different ways to do it and everyone has their own but there's a foundation to follow to get started. Before you knot it it's muscle memory and you won't even have to think about it. Just don't get too cocky, you'll get humbed real quick lol. Happens to me more than I'd care to admit 😆

Garmin sends you the long way around. It also tells you to turn out of a starting point, go way up yonder, make more turns to pass your starting point again. You have to watch it and keep your laminated oversized Rand M map
You need to set up the height restriction in the Garmin GPS set your height for 13 6

Is that an otr700? I got an otr610. I prefer the smaller gps units. I had an otr1000 and it was just way too big. I like that these new garmins have the satellite images. Stay safe👍

I am big fan of garmin. Their maps are so well updated compared to TomTom. I always get lost with tomtom. I never really got lost with garmin except for occasional moments. I have heard many bad things about rand McNally. I am glad you got garmin. Garmin has gotten really more advanced with satellite images of truck stops, yards, and shippers.
Who in the hell buys a TomTom gps anymore? Lol

For gps I would recommend the Rand McNally TND 750 but it looks like I’m too late
I love my Garmin.
Is your Garmin GPS the trucker version? The one you have looks like the one that I have in my car.
The trucker version will prevent you from low bridges etc. as well as following truck routes.

You know you can use your ELD as a GPS? It's supposed to load the GPS when you head to a pickup or head towards the delivery but that doesn't really work. Maybe 1/10.

You film more backing up than going forward
Dispatch sends people the opposite direction of home very frequently . Often after being advised by the driver he has to be home. Including being stuck in Fontana, for instance, for truck out of service by the terminal security guard. His errant write ups A lot of guys quit companies for this.

7:35 I don’t think having a gps on the bottom left of the windshield is a DOT violation. Cause then how can you explain some trucks that only have a right fender mirror or no fender mirrors at all.
Dave had his on the left side and nothing ever happened. I don’t think its a DOT violation.
Ya I’m not sure I just was told awhile ago that it was an obstruction of view, and prolly would only be called out by a DOT officer with a bad day but I understand where you are coming from

I have a Samsung Galaxy a20 which is a 100 dollar phone that I used for and year and a half of otr and dedicated Trucking as my GPS and every day use all at once and never experienced overheating. 😵

Yea. But very few of them do, at least when I worked there they didn't. An most of them are on dedicated or regional runs so really no need for one.

I'm not Jay , but it's air release, everything on the truck is operated by air for the most part
