Recently National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has announced that work on a four-lane project on Ghaziabad Kanpur Expressway will begin soon. Already, 90 per cent of the land has been acquired and the remaining 10 per cent will be acquired soon. The highway authority is planning to complete the expressway construction by the given deadline, which is 2025. The construction of the Ghaziabad-Kanpur four-lane expressway is a major project. It will improve connectivity between two important cities in Uttar Pradesh. The expressway will also boost economic activity in the region and provide employment to thousands of people. The Ghaziabad to Kanpur Expressway, which spans a staggering 380 kms, will interconnect nine districts in Uttar Pradesh (UP). Besides making travelling convenient between the two cities, the expressway is expected to provide a significant boost to the economy of UP. The upcoming Ghaziabad Kanpur Expressway is expected to significantly reduce the travel time to just 3 hours. Currently, it takes around 6 hours for commuters travelling between Ghaziabad to Kanpur through the Yamuna Expressway. Alternatively, those travelling through NH-9 endure at least eight hours on the road. Hence the upcoming expressway promises a faster and more efficient travel option for commuters. The upcoming Ghaziabad Kanpur Expressway will be a massive contribution to the already existing impressive network of highways and expressways in Uttar Pradesh, enhancing connectivity across various regions of the state. In addition to the well-known Yamuna Expressway, Uttar Pradesh takes pride in its extensive network of high-speed expressways, including the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, the Taj Expressway linking Agra and Lucknow, and the upcoming Purvanchal Expressway, among several others. These remarkable transport infrastructure initiatives showcase the state government's commitment to ensuring seamless travel for residents and tourists. Designed as a greenfield project, this upcoming expressway will feature four lanes, with provisions for expanding to six lanes at strategic locations such as underpasses and crossings of waterways. The greenfield corridor was first announced in September 2019 by the Union Road Transport and Highways Ministry and was approved by the central government on July 5, 2022. The construction of the corridor is expected to begin soon in 2023, as the authority has asked the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to submit the Detailed Project Report (DPR). Also, the project is likely to be completed by 2025.
