Ergo proxy was beyond its age. Early 2000s were tough ages for high quality animes. Now that we are getting close to 2020, its getting harder to find good shounen animes.
By the way, Ergo proxy intro song is also badass.

C'mon... I have no words to describe how perfect is this song. When I'm listening to this song I feel a kind of feeling showing me about illusion and disillusionment. I can't really explain it, but it's a good state of consciousness.

I once listen to this song while tripping out, i could feel the sounds throwing me down into an endless expanse of fractal patterns. As my mind failed to comprehend the vastness of it all, so too did my body. My entire being was constantly shifting with the seemingly endless sounds. Long story short, 10/10 would do again.

Well, while set in a bit different tones stylistically, I feel like Violet Evergarden has come close to analyse the human psyche in...rather specific situations, and puts forth some pretty good questions regarding what - and why - makes us so in the first place.
Both had terrible movies 10 years later. Sad, really.
