Served on the USS Rigel AF58 in the 1960s, it was pretty good duty. We did 5 Med cruises, a N Atlantic and Caribbean cruise during the two years I was aboard, great memories.
I didn´t catch the meaning of AF.and AOE.Just love these old documentaries shot when I was young and a dreamer. God Bless you service men. By the way, I am a Brazilian cityzen who profoundly loves and admires this great country. God Bless America now and always.
Please pray for America, Leoni. We are in some very dark days right now with the Communists trying to take over. It is very good to know you are on our side!
This brings back memories. And not good ones. Just a very long day with "sound power phones" on my head. I was the flight ops phone talker. "helicopter over deck", "pallet on deck", "pallet secured", over, over and over again. This really disrupted my day. I was the Logroom Yeoman, I had reports to type. Then, when it was done, I had to help put the boxes in the storerooms. Well, at least it was during the day, not like those 0200 refuelings. And those "touch and goes", were just so boring. And, of course, I got seasick a lot. Eh, it was an experience.
Witnessed this evolution many times during my 14 years of sea duty while stationed on USS Semmes DDG 18, USS Cape Cod AD 43, USS Kinkaid DD 965, USS Whidbey Island LSD 41, and USS Wasp LHD 1....
This is a great episode because i never knew how they replenish the ships during war time or not i bet it took great timing and accuracy to use helicopter so they can so I can bring down supplies to the ships at sea
I did this for 4 years back in the 70's. I was stationed on the USS Kalamazoo (AOR-6)
I envy you. You must be proud of the good job you have done for your Country.

I wonder why the 'HEAP' system never caught on. It looks like a lot of fun!
