    Thank you. Just bought the IFAK from that company, and now I know how to use that chest seal. Hopefully I'll never need to use it...

    Problem I see with a lot of these videos is in real life there are multiple GSWs in different locations. It would be nice to teach how to deal with those for everyone.

    If the puncture went through the back, do you use the same seal?

    • @SixEcho
      @SixEcho  Рік тому +2

      Yes. If you have an entrance and an exit wound you need to have at least one of them vented. Both vented is completely fine.

    Did you say the inhale and exhale thing backwards? Wouldnt air get sucked in during the exhale, as the lungs get smaller creating a vacuum? and air would get pushed out during the inhale, as the lungs fill up and take up space, pushing air out?

    • @SixEcho
      @SixEcho  2 роки тому +2

      No, you actually still draw air into your chest cavity on inhale since your chest wall expands and your diaphragm moves down to create a vacuum and bring air in. Once you go to exhale, the collapsed lung acts like a 1 way valve and doesn’t let the air go back out the same path it came in. This you can the trapped air inside the chest wall.

      Think about it this way…the lungs don’t have muscles and don’t move by themselves. So when you exhale, it’s the diaphragm muscle relaxing back into place and the chest wall relaxing and getting smaller. It pushes air back air. The lung itself is passive and can’t move on its own. It relies on structures around it to move to inflate and deflate. Maybe that helps explain it better. Hopefully it wasn’t more confusing. Lol

      @@SixEcho Another question. How do these vented chest seals work? I understand that they let air escape through the "tubes" or sections of the patches that don't have an adhesive on it, but when air is getting sucked in, how does it shut those "tubes" and stop air from getting in?
      It seems like it's basically a straw that lets air go both ways depending on positive or negative air pressure/suction?

    If we can get non vented one should we use that or never settle less than vented chest seals.
    P.S What is the alternative to chest seals cause where I live it's hard to find this level of medical supplies.

    • @SixEcho
      @SixEcho  3 роки тому +3

      Yes, you need to seal the chest somehow. If you use non-vented you need to watch for pressure building up every 5 mins or so and you might have to burn the seal by manually peeling back a corner for a few seconds and placing it back.
      Alternative to a commercial chest seal would be some form of plastic with a good quality tape like duct tape or something.

    What about chest hair?

    • @SixEcho
      @SixEcho  Рік тому +1

      They stick well on chest hair. But that is one area that we didn’t test here.

      if it’s a jungle, it’s probably best to shave the area, you can carry a razor or use your trauma shears if they are sharp enough.
