    Thanks Glenn for the very useful video and great playing as well. We as Sandra & Paul used the AER Compact Mobile all over London UK always with both inputs engaged, (violin and guitar) and after about a year and a half, the original batteries lasted only 1 hour. Still a great great amp with unmatched sound quality. Personally, I still prefer this model over external batteries, fiddly converters and os on. Considering that one has to change the batteries once a year or so the process of replacing the batteries could have been designed in a better way.

      Thanks Sandra & Paul, yes , I agree it is again to change out the batteries. I've done it twice and I'm getting used to it. Hopefully the next change isn't for a while. It depends how much I use the amp. Thanks for watching!

    Good video. I also own one of these I've taken the both batteries out, drilled a small whole behind the plastic handle to feed the wire through so I can attach to any larger size battery for longer playing time. I routed out 2 side holes and put air grills on both sides for airflow. I changed the power transistor because mine died so upgraded it to a larger more powerful one, and because they tend to get warm air can pass through the amp.

    So only a few weeks after having the batteries in my Aer CM1 replaced by an expert amp technician (who did his research), I have lost all power, even when plugged into mains...? Fuse looks fine? I put two new batteries 12 V. 7 AH into my AER but I found that the internal charger was not strong enough to charge both batteries up to full capacity so, in the end, I did not improve my playing time at all. I had to remove one of the batteries. In my show even when the amp was new I never got more than 3 hours of playing time before the batteries went flat. I play a loud show using playback tracks with bass and drums at fairly high volume and play lead electric guitar and harmonica along with vocals so the amp is driven hard. The only way I could get a full day playing time is to use the external battery input and run a 60 AH camper battery to power the amp. It weighs a lot but I can run the amp for several days playing 3 to 4 hours a day before I need to recharge the external battery. End of problem.

    Hey Glenn, really appreciate your video. Replaced my batteries 4 years ago and have enjoyed my amp ever since. Suddenly the other night while singing with my wife (1 guitar input, 1 mic input), the amp died a mysterious death. Ok, so I was using battery power and yeah, maybe I hadn't remembered to charge up fully. However, I cannot seem to get anything from the amp now, even when plugged into mains. Is there a fuse I can check, and if so, where? If the batteries are dead, does that automatically shut the entire amp down? From memory, I was still able to use it on mains the last time the batteries died. Thanks again for your support

    • @Heevamos
      @Heevamos  2 роки тому +1

      Hey jack, thank you. I'm not sure what happened to your amp, but suspect the batteries have dies suddenly, maybe do to the charge being low. It may be time for new batteries. That should bring it back to life. Hope you get it back up and running.

    • @scottitonline
      @scottitonline Рік тому

      That just happened to me. These AMPs do have a fuse where the kettle lead plugs into the amp. If you are lucky, when you slide out the fuse compartment, you will find a spare fuse. The question is, why did your fuse blow in the first place? My AER Compact now trips the electrics when I plug it in. Mike

    Thank you very much for your reply.
    One last question.
    Is it normal that the dc jack of the aer amplifier should be supplied with power immediately after connecting it?
    Or is it a way to automatically use dc power when the battery is low?
    Have a nice day!

    Excellent presentation Glenn. Thanks Been playing and loving my AER for about three months now. Have a question: Did you look into using lithium ion batteries instead of lead acid batteries for replacements? Replaced the AGM lead acid batteries, with lithium ion batteries in the solar collection system I installed on my RV. Though the lithium batteries are more expensive. The quicker charging capabilities, longer lasting charge, and longer battery life I feel made the extra cost worth it. Hoping in two years when I need to replace the batteries in my AER (if possible to use lithium batteries?) the cost of lithium batteries will have come down? Thanks again.

    • @Heevamos
      @Heevamos  6 років тому

      Thanks Daniel! I don't know much about the batteries. I just replaced what came with the amp. I'd ask down at your local battery store. The lithium batteries sound like they would work better and last longer.

    • @stein657
      @stein657 4 роки тому +1

      Lithium-Ion batteries of this kind of power are not permitted on an airplane. Another reason for choosing lead acid batteries is that they hold their power much better in low temperatures.

    Your screen overlay states that the type of battery needed is a UN7-12. A web search shows the UN7-12 as a 12 volt battery. However the batteries you hold up to the screen are Power Sonic PS-6100 F1. These are 6 volt 12 Amp/Hr batteries. Since the AER manual also refers to two 6Volt 12Ah batteries I assume that two 6V 12Ah batteries are the correct batteries to use.

    • @Heevamos
      @Heevamos  4 роки тому

      Yes, these batteries work. I would take the original batteries you have to a local battery store. They could get you the right ones.

      @@Heevamos Hi Glenn, I don't know about where you are but the friendly local battery store in the UK is really only accessible via the web. As far as I can tell version 1 of this amp did use two UN7-12 batteries in parallel. For version 2 AER changed to two PS-6100 F1 6 volt batteries in series, which actually offers slightly higher capacity / longer operating time. I have two replacement batteries on order.

    Hi Glenn, so a couple of things don't quite add up for me in your video. 1) My AER Compact Mobile 2 manual specifies that it is factory fitted with two 6-VOLT batteries. You recommend two 12-VOLT batteries. 2) You omit to show how you access and remove the loud speaker wires which are soldered to terminals behind the magnet. It seems the wires are not long to get access to the rear of the speaker to un-solder these. What did you do in this case?.

    • @Heevamos
      @Heevamos  4 роки тому

      Hi Mark, I'm not sure. I just replaced the batteries that came with the amp. It has been working great since. I would ask someone who knows more about batteries in general. A battery store in your town could probably help with this.

  • @AleksiPorkka

      Glenn Roth One more question.. I could not find an answer elsewhere.
      These markings "UN7-12" or "LP-6-12" OR similar.. what do they mean? We have a limited amount of lead batteries here in Finland, and the only ones I can find are either "LP6-12" (6v 12ah) or something else. Is this marking important? Does it only show the voltage and ah?
      I really do not want to blow up my aer.. 🔥

I make do with my Roland Cube Street EX when I busk or do the occasional wedding in the park. The AER battery replacement along with some of the comments below tells me this is way beyond my comfort range regarding pulling gear apart. I want to be able to pull a battery pack out (as with the Roland), charge it and go. I'd love to see AER redesign this amp with a more user friendly rechargeable/changeable battery. I'd buy it.

    I replaced my batteries thanks to this vid. It worked great. First play 3-4 hours. Then next few plays were the same. However two weeks later I’m back at square 1.
    Barely over 1 hour playing time.
    I also noticed that my battery indicator wouldn’t turn off with my new batteries.
    Can people inform me if I went wrong somewhere. Or If it could be something else that is the problem?
    Also. Can I replace the lead with gel? As the have a different initial current. Gel = initial lower than 3.6. Lead initial 4.8.
    All other information on the gel battery is the same. And in Europe I am struggling to find the Panasonic or equal lead battery.
    The battery store is kinda helpful. But having a tough time getting the right info.
