    That is huge to get the septic up and running, HAPPY DAYS. that little backhoe was the size they used to get down the side of our house to do our backyard patio, it may be small but it is mighty.

    Sam sent me to take a look at your channel & low & behold, there he was helping you out. Glad you solved that quickly. I had to dig up & replace 80 feet of clay pipe 2 years ago. Tree roots all through it. Took me and a buddy a few days but was so much cheaper than paying a plumber! My building is 80 years old so I figured it would be clay. It was a mess from years of tree roots invading it.
    I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos!

    Nice fix! Very satisfying when you get that kind of job done a lot more easily than you thought it would be.
    Funny story on a similar line; when I was a lad my buddy’s dad kept having problems with a sewage pipe that ran along the ceiling of his basement from the bathroom above. Problem was it was a bit too much of a shallow slope on it and it would occasionally back up after repeated solid waste deposits and need a snake putting down to clear it through. His dad got tired of finding out the hard way that it was plugged and changing the pitch of the pipe would cause too much of a headache and leave it hanging down too low in the basement. His answer? He had a buddy who worked at a chemical plant who got him some CLEAR 4” pipe that he ran across the ceiling so he could see if there was a build-up forming that he needed to flush some cleaner through before it plugged. His wife hated it but he loved to take people down to his basement shop to show them what he called his ‘water feature’! Often wonder if it’s still like that.

    • @SteepintheWoods
      @SteepintheWoods  2 роки тому

      Haha! I love it!!
      I had a similar idea for a composting toilet.. a large clear pipe run vertical under the toilet so you can see for inspection, with a clean out at the very bottom.. not sure that it'll work obviously it has to be a large pipe but it is interesting that someone else executed a similar idea with a visible poop pipe!!

    Great repair work, guys. My house was constructed in the 1970's and they used cast iron all underneath the house and the main sewer line going out to the septic tank. I bought our place in 2012 and we had no trouble whatsoever until 2020 when my main line backed up for the first time. I had it cleaned out by the plumber, but it did it two more times, about six months apart. I had two things going on. #1, the cast iron pipe was starting to rust from the inside out, imagine an artery after two much McDonalds. #2, my pipe actually broke about a foot from the entrance to the tank, and that section had collapsed down a few inches. It's a small wonder we didn't have more frequent backups there towards the end. We had the whole thing repaired in the summer of 2021. New sewer line from underneath the house all the way out to the tank and a new sanitary tee / inlet baffle. I saved some money by doing the digging myself. But I didn't have a mini digger like you! I dug the trench which was about 12 feet long outside, with just a shovel! Great work you've done here!

    Did you put that purple pipe sealer on the junctions of the white pipe? This seals it so roots cannot grow through cracks into the sewer pipe and caused a leak/broken pipe at a later date. Also with the age of the dozer I would’ve pulled another foot of dirt over the area where the pipe is so you don’t have to worry about freezing pipes or frozen spots in the winter. I would do this evening even if you are in the southern part of the country. Better safe than sorry if the weather gets bad this winter or any winter.

    At least your line was pretty straight forward. Our line comes from the kitchen and angles under the cement driveway then turns back under the driveway again across our front yard. Looks like the point of a star. Total crazy install!

    • @SteepintheWoods

      @@SteepintheWoods not in this case. It was continually full of water and my husband dug it up and raised part of it about 8 inches so now it only keeps about an inch of water. We also found our clean out at the top of the "point" buried about 6 inches under ground. We have paid thousands in line clean out expenses before finding this problem on our own. Now we have gone one year trouble free and it feels great!

    Hey Josh , hi Sam . Hit the break first time excellent stuff . Saves all the trail holes trying to find the fault , All done in no time . Previous repair was too weak , roots must have pushed the patch up job , broke it through . Excellent job fellas your a good team . One thing I'm a great believer of is mechanical assistance , makes for an easier job . Used to see my crew kickin out by hand , hand digging that is , used to ask , what you doing , kicking out , answer was , aye , that means , yes , in geordie language , sounds like scottish a bit . Were not scottish tho . I would say to them , see that big yellow thing over there , the one with the two buckets on , aye ,was the answer , thats what its for ripping that out . Use it . Haven got a ticket for it though , gaffer , that means boss . So I had to rip it out for them . Was a working foreman , no pushing a pen for me , hands dirty with the crew . Would never ask them to do what I wouldnt do myself , thats was my theory . You have to have a heavy plant operators licence in UK before you use machinery on site , its law over here . Anyway was always ready to help out annyway I could hence the saying , , Up to the eyes in muck and bullets . . Get among the crappy stuff and get your hands manky , meaning dirty or rotten with muck . . Anyway . Well done and find more uses for the little 360 before it has to go back to the hire place . Move a mountain . . See you both in the next ones . Best wishes to both families Josh and Sam . Keep up the excellent work and content guys . .

    • @SteepintheWoods
      @SteepintheWoods  2 роки тому +1

      It was a pretty nice machine! Wouldn't mind having a pair of them myself!
      There's a company over here that makes miniature dozer 'kits' for around $6,000..
      Been on my bucket list for years! Although if the price wasn't an issue, a little machine like this would be pretty nice as well!
      More than likely if something like that was ever going to come to pass in my life and I have to make it myself..
      I drove forklift for several years and thankfully all that experience transferred to these little track-ho's!

    • @fava7753
      @fava7753 2 роки тому

      Exactly Josh , its like learning to ride a bicycle , get the co ordination right and it transfers to any other machine , just have to use the old grey matter to use them safe and wise , you will find it very easy to operate any machine once you spend a little time operating one on site . . Could have used my mechanical knowledge to help you build one too . Wouldnt have been a problem . Building club rally cars at nineteen for use in northeast England . Bare shell rebuilds from the ground up the whole nine yards , oil in the veins father used to say . Welding , fabrication , everything and anything back then , yeah they were real Happy days . Most of the guys in the workshop did some type of motor sports , rallying , isle of man tt races , customising . Conversions , one guy had a Morris 1000 with jaguar back end , gearbox and a rover v8 under the hood you could tell unless you looked under the rear end , was really well hidden that thing could fly away . Was ridiculous the speed it could do . Everything . Waaay back in the seventies then . Anyway writing war and peace again . . Best wishes to all the family see you all in the next one . Stay safe all , be happy . Top man . .
