- Order Jean-Michel's new album 'aubades': mkx.lnk.to/JMB... // aubades marks the Montreal-born musician’s transition from pianist to composer, as he writes for an ensemble for the first time in his career. Written during the pandemic and following a breakup, Blais has used his distinctive musical voice to create a defiantly uplifting record with glistening instrumental textures and warm major tonalities. The album’s title refers to the “aubade”, a Middle Ages morning love song about lovers separating at daybreak, a dawn serenade.

I’m in New Mexico and the state has been so dry for months. On a lovely day about a week ago, I noticed a storm coming in, & a Mourning Dove watching it. She’d never turn to look at me, even as I vociferously rejoiced in the rain- that had begun to pelt us. She held her perch in the tree, enjoying the storm, even when it grew heavy. So I played this song, for the storm, myself & especially for the brave bird. She loved the music, & finally noticed me behind the oboe. The storm ended, but the Dove stayed through a few more minutes…just for the song. Then she nodded at me, shook the rain off her back & flew away~

I found this by chance on Spotify and added it to my classical playlist, all among Tchaikovsky and Beethoven etc, etc.. and i never realized it could have been composed in this modern era let alone come out so soon in 2022, i admit i didn't check who it was by at first because i immediately fell in love with i and knew it deserved its spot in the playlist among the legends themselves.
This song captures perfectly what it feels like to be in love for me, i liste to it always on repeat and only recently did it occur to me to look up who it's by and wow, I'm at a loss for words. This is way too beautiful, i love this piece so much
