Hi everyone, our 500 had been doing this for 7 years, under certain circumstances. First it only happens from a cold start after not being used all night, it also only happens when the temp reached 3/4 of running temp, that's as the thermostat opens also, it only happens if I brake in 5th or 4th gear. Under those circumstances, the computer takes the gearbox off line and the car beeps, obviously you instantly lose forward drive. The car never does it if I brake in 3rd gear or a lower gear. I took it in for diagnostic 7 years ago, Fiat couldn't find a fault, so now, I have had to make sure I only brake in 3rd gear if the car hasn't been at full running temp for a good deal of time. Oh, by the way changing the thermostat incase it was a vendor issue, didn't fix the problem.
If you in UK, there is a bloke who service dualogic actuators. You probably have a leak in system as there loads of different size o rings. He mention in description that after his service it should fix: heavy braking which drops in neutral, kick down acceleration and if slips out of gear. We used to have that while you drive used to drop to neutral. Have too up oil in dualogic reservoir and was alright for 4 month ish.. then did same thing again and lasted around same.
@@kevinas88 where is the reservoir and what transmission fluid does it take, I have that when I go out of neutral I can go into drive and reverse fine but I can’t go back into neutral , if I put handbrake up ant turn the car off, when I start it again it actually starts in neutral so it’s like it resets in neutral, it makes it ok still to drive but I would still like to fix that issue, do you have the name or company of that guy who fixes the actuators? I’m in Western Australia but he might be able to steer me in the right direction Thanks
@@Stevie_G8 when you park your car, you have to leave in D (drive) or R (reverse), when you start your car it automaticly puts in reverse. Reservoir is in front of engine on right hand side under aluminium cover, holds with 3 or 4 bolts. I have added Petronas Tutela CS speed 75w oil, reservoir has marking minimum and maximum levels, full tank is 0.8l so you need only one bottle of it, but everytime you add, you have to calibrate it, as I found out after 3rd top up.. started leaking thru one of sensors, so had to rebuild entire unit.
@@bisheadbarbie Nope. Took it to a specialist and he said it was most likely the transmission itself and I’d have to replace it. He said that these cars always have this issue and he had another one in the shop with the same problem. I decided to just buy a Corolla instead as they’re apparently very reliable cars and that’s all I want after the terrible experience of owning a Fiat.
@@TastyLemon123 ahhh. I just bought this Fiat 500. It’s just had a new gear box in by previous owner so I don’t know what it could be. It’s happened to me once. Been looking at what could fix it
@Jim did you try this ^ and did that help ?? Please let me know if you find some solutions for this issue as I am having the same issue from past few months
Run a code scan on it, might need a deep mechanic one. The fail of these is most often the situation of the beast by nature, any sensor in the trans for output, or input rpm can get clouded blind because they are magnetic and attract any ferrous metal particles. The trans also uses engine cam, and crank...with a possible detection of vaccum or airflow, mass or manifold negative pressure. The shifter setup in the Euro (rhd) models looks so much better than domestic.
Try changing the gear shifter assembly. My last Grande Punto with Dualogic always go to Auto mode when I drive in Manual. After changing the gear shifter assembly no more issues. Is the metal contact that activate the mode wore out. Please do not drive car with dualogic by keep putting your hand on the gear knob. This will wore out the metal contact.
#fiatrfmodule malfunction. #fiatfail My Fiat 500 has manufacture defect with the weather stripping which allowed water to leak in and drip onto the RF module. now all electronics are gone in my Fiat

With all that sequencing it's almost like Fiat is training you to drive standard.

Buy a Japanese car like Toyota, Honda, Mazda lol. I leave my car for months and never had any engine problems or pretty much any problem really
Must be an issue on UK Fiat 500s. Are they still an aisin automatic transmission like the USA 500’s?
Hello, did you solve this problem? I have the same problem?
i would just avoid all these semi-auto gearboxes.
dont work well and very expensive to fix
I also have this issue. Where is the problem pls?
Probably the electric actuators in the transmission. I had a smililar problem on a Smart Fortwo automatic transmission.
It also does this for me when you don’t have your foot on the brake, when wanting to change from neutral.
Hello, did you find a solution to this problem? Help me if you please
@@MichaelDJW432 i had to replace new robot. During all years problem was in robot. It was 11 years old so needed to buy new one for 1300€.
BEFORE GOING IN NEUTER PULL THE BRAKES AND GO IN NEUTER AND BRAKE IT WILL BE OK
Today its Same my problem.. what is the problem i don't know what i should to do
I’m having this exact issue on my 2013 Fiat 500. I’m hoping it’s low transmission fluid because I’m getting it changed.
Did it end up being that?

Mine did this first couple of months of owning it and brand new, was a gear selection sensor
What that mean
Hi - did this sort the problem??
Hello, did you find a solution to this problem? Help me if you please
Did you find out what the issue was? We joined the A1M today and as I was going to over take a lorry it did what your car is doing and wouldn’t move
Just changed the little plastic under the battery , that’s the end of gear cable
What part Is?
I hate this. My car randomly does this. Spent thousands on transmission and still does this.
If you get a fiat make sure it's manual
Common issue with the duologic….
Honestly don’t get an auto fiat 500 the gear box just isn’t good it never know what gear it wants to be in and the engine just isn’t strong enough
Change/Top up Gear box Oil.
