Health experience is gained from melee attacks. Mana experience is gained from magic attacks. Defense experience is gained from taking damage. Agility experience is gained from moving around the maps (simply walking). Great video though. One On of my favorites from my childhood.
I think the spells and the leveling up is why I love this game so much. For the spells, you cant possibly learn all of them in one playthrough, so that adds replay value so you can try different elements in different playthroughs. I also love how you gain agility by dodging and running around the map, and HP and defense by getting hit. You basically get stronger no matter what you do. It makes grinding a little less repetitive.
Grinding in this game is repetitive enough, especially with the incredibly high encounter rate with no way to tone it down. But I do like that I can run around in circles in a safe area and be getting something out of it!
@@phonyk568 I like it cause there's no screaming, no constantly trying to be funny no annoying intros or outros. It's chill and it helps me fall asleep.
The hardest thing for me was trying to figure out how to use the spells. But seeing this is very cool because so much of this game is based on knowing how figure this aspect out.
As late as I am to commenting, I’m surprisingly enjoying the series so far. The game gave me a lot of frustration the first time around, so to see someone pleasantly playing it is enjoyable.
The open world music in this game has been stuck in my head ever since I played this as a kid back then. It will come back to me whenever. Anyway, I enjoyed your videos so far after watching Part 1 of this LP.
I kinda wish the roads were immune to random encounters, it would make it less tedious if you didn't need to grind at the time. And Zelda: OoT style targeting system for your spells would improve combat immensely x_x
I remember playing this up til reaching the fire jewel then I had to return it to blockbuster and my parents couldn't rent it again. I remember having so much fun playing the game and it was not that hard to figure out the game mechanics. Granted the graphics is not that great and the story is very minimal but you can tell that the main focus was game play, and that is the most critically important thing to focus on in ANY game.
While I'm sure the game is already over and done with - the Gem on the second panel of the Status screen where all of your elements are shown is what shows you how close you are to levelling! Very interesting system that they used, though, with your stats in no way related to your elemental level. I like it quite a lot! Wish more RPG games did this!
you recommend getting the health spell as soon as possible but add to earth first.. you could have made it to the bottom of map without going back if you just got health spell first.
Wind cutter 1 will almost never miss you if you don't run. At least not in my experience. It's not until they start throwing multiple cutters that you can dodge some of them by standing still. Also, while the game is a lot of grinding, it's also kind of short if you know what you're doing. Even without knowing all the spirit locations like you do, I am able to beat the game start to finish in under 8 hours.
One of the things which I think is really weird about this game is that there is a point where...if you choose the right elemental spells, all of your items are rendered moot, save for MP/HP restoring items. For example, there is the items Giant’s Shoes, which allows you to make your battle movement field twice as large. If you put enough spirits in the Wind slot, you will gain the spell Wind Walker, which does the same thing.
I rmemeber this game just barely though and I belive hell hound is the reason I was stuck since I was a kid I didn't know how to fight or run away and they scared me to as a kid
I have never played on emulator i always play them on there consoles and i like this game alot. When playing it i never really noticed anything realy bad about it but you are right it can take alot of grinding to get tough enough to beat the bosses.
I remember this game I would always die from the hell hounds and I was also 4 when I played this game so I would always die before I even got to any town
HP and MP restore by walking. Agility goes up, by running. You can easily get Agility up by going in a building, and run against a corner. I'm happy that I can comment on these ones, and give smart information.
I can say buying the 64 version of this game was the better choice on my part back in the N64 days because I still play it to this day. I am currently doing my own Video Walkthrough of it for my website too.
Brian, Melrode's requisite juvenile delinquent, rolled his eyes impatiently as the Abbott interrogated him. Brian's father, "Sticky Fingers" Bart, had been seen stealing the Eletale Book, and the Abbott wanted to know where he had run off to. "The old man must be out of drinkin' money again," thought Brian, as he weaseled his way out of the interview. Not to be outdone, he ran off after the old man to steal the book and sell it to the usual fence himself, pilfering a magic staff and conning himself a free meal on his way out of town. He threw rocks at the local wildlife, a favorite pastime, as he travelled down the road to Dondoran.
Graphic, sound and level design was much worse, but it was sort of an improvement over the 64 version. For starters, inventory was more maneagable, with wings having their own menu. Stats were levelled faster, and the game had a story with NPCs moving and everything. The music sucked though. They used less themes, and they looped too soon...

Wow. You are the only let'splay whose commentary is enjoyable. Everyone should learn from you.
They are describing how the game works, you are enjoying an opinionated tutorial
@@phonyk568 I like it cause there's no screaming, no constantly trying to be funny no annoying intros or outros. It's chill and it helps me fall asleep.
God I remember this game. I couldn't kill anything because I was 4 years old and couldn't understand what a turn-based game was all about.
The hardest thing for me was trying to figure out how to use the spells. But seeing this is very cool because so much of this game is based on knowing how figure this aspect out.

Tai Morgan It’s not a bad game....just a very, very unpolished one. Also, the encounter rate is too high.

Your commentary was very accurate and genuine great job

Robbers? In a world without a currency system!? What is the world coming to! xD
I'm subscribing because you're the only person awesome enough to play this :D
Mcgammar.

I remember playing this at 6 years old and always end up circling back to the first town cause i would forget which way i came from lmao
there an easy way to not take any damage from those enemies that only cast rock spells get close to them cause they only use spells
I remember this game. I even purchased the GBC version.

I think that's kinda cool. You wouldn't notice these things unless you were paying attention. :)
Two spells can even replace the beed for wings, Return and Exit. They are both Fire spells that you get extremely late in the game.
I never went with fire so I didn't know that, but really handy indeed!
@6:35 "We got a lot of roads to travel, lady." Hahaha
+crisis8v88 It gets more interesting considering the one she actually saw...
Found your channel while looking up help for Lost Odyssey. Love your style of commentary, love the game selection as well. I have thus subbed
Gotta say thanks for the lp. I remember never getting passed the forest in this damn game :I And never finding an lp with a voice that sounds okay.
2 episodes in, and this young person is doing a great job commenting. Well done, whoever you are!
Thank you very much, really appreciate the kind words!
I rmemeber this game just barely though and I belive hell hound is the reason I was stuck since I was a kid I didn't know how to fight or run away and they scared me to as a kid
I`ve been look for this game for forever. Thank you for this lets play :)

I loved this game. I wish they would remake it using the Unreal Engine platform.

A lot of trial and error to get good at this but after that I got OP and kicked ass.
I remember this game....but I don't remember this combat system at all >.>
I was almost yelling USE WATER :( against man eaters because they are strong against earth and I think weak against water
Why is the music sped up? I'm guessing it has something to do with copyright.
I can say buying the 64 version of this game was the better choice on my part back in the N64 days because I still play it to this day. I am currently doing my own Video Walkthrough of it for my website too.
I actually enjoyed it quite a lot. I'm very fond of 8-bit era, somehow. ^^''
I am thinking it was glitched out. As far as I know its not suppose to happen.
Yeah. I didn't know it would be that hard back when I was younger...So I kinda gave up x3
i find watching others grind in games enjoyable.
Something about it is satisfying...
I was playing on the console, so who knows. The only cheating device I have is an action replay for my DS, and it doesn't work anymore.

Man the n64 lacked rpg's

Weird, because my HP would regenerate when I walked. Maybe I have a glitch or something.
God the music sounds off... otherwise great vids!
how did you get 3 water already ??
Picking up the spirits on the world map, me thinks.
Honey that circle is white, not blue. Other than that good video.
Why the hell is he only using rock that is so annoying
