Wow, what a recording. When you made this first one the world had no idea what was going to happen to Christa Mcauliffe and the crew. I could listen to your shortwave recordings all night. Thank you for posting these recordings.
I was at college when I saw the video replays on TV just minutes after the Challenger Explosion. I was horrified, I couldn't help but think of the first launch and sinking of the RMS Titanic 70 years earlier as both of these ships, in their day were heavily hyped up in the media upon first voyage only to end in tragedy.
Hi Mike. These are a wonderful snapshot of the shortwave scene from before my time. I was born in 1985. If you have more material tucked away somewhere, please upload it for everyone to enjoy. Many thanks pfor the great videos.
I still have a couple of Short wave radio's, a Degen DE1103, and another similar radio. However I must confess most of my SWL time is spent on SDR's on line. However nice films, they take me back to the days of number stations. At one time in my youth I had a "Heathkit Mohican" sold state radio. A long time ago that. Thanks for the memorys Mike.
I started listening to shortwave stations in the mid 1980s, but unfortunately, I was too young to appreciate the global political aspect of the broadcasts that I was hearing.
The vega 206 was built like a tank and I preferred this over the Selena. Many happy hours spent burning the midnight oil listening into numerous stations.
LOL yes they did, the rest of us had a cloud drifting over us while a day or so later the Russian's were saying its all ok and people were going back home lol
This is a great collections of recordings from 1986!

Cheers Stuart, you could always fire them up and see what is out there? nothing like the crackle of a radio :)
Oh I do Mike, one by my bed and one in the living room.
Good man :)

Indeed so, shame we can't go back with more C90 tapes :)
I loved learning languages I heard and listening to all the different music styles. I used an ATS818cs with 120min tapes.
This is a fantastic video
Thanks very much
