Catholics Claim That New Testament ls Uninspired Not only does the Catholic church contend that the Bible is a “dead letter” and the New Testament is uninspired, but it maintains that the apostles appointed a “divine infallible apostolate” to direct us. That is essentially the way the Catholic church endeavors to make room in the realm of religion for papal edicts and the decrees of the Romanist councils. But concider this: “For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, how shall we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation, which at first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him.” (HEBREWS 2:2-3) Those who heard the word were the ones to confirm it, and that is in keeping with the following statement of Peter. “Therefore, of these men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from the baptism of John, to the day when he was taken up from us. One of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection.” (ACTS 1:21-22). This was said in regard of one whom “ . . . You have chosen to take part in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas by transgression fell” (ACTS 1:24-25). Can this so-called “divine, infallible apostolate” qualify? And after the word has been spoken and confirmed, what purpose could such an office serve?

good interview. I am a traditional catholic and attend a TLM parish for the past 4 years. My parish is growing by leaps and bounds with lots of young families with lots of kids. during this time we've gone from 200 to 1200. The novus ordo mass can be beautiful too when the priest adheres to the rubrics and in great reverence and awe says the mass. most of the real crazed our trads seem to have left my parish and gone over to the sspx. can't we coexist and get along and allow the other to be. i don't understand all this anger and almost hatred in the Church. it seems more like the spirit of the worldly politics and not of Christ. the Church allows all the eastern rite traditions can't they allow the TLM.
My experience at an FSSP was less than desirable. Maybe it's because I'm currently living in the south, but there was lots of antisemitism, racism, sexism, corporal punishment, a mistreatment of children that "bordered" on abuse (speaking charitably), and a general bigotry towards anyone who wasn't hardcore TLM, including a strong distaste even of faithful Novus Ordo Catholics. I heard TLM attendees talk about Novus Ordo Catholics as if they were subhuman on more than one occasion, and when I would confront people, they would justify their actions with prideful admonishments of "the other", whether it was against Jewish people, or outcrying the evils of interracial marriage, or how the submission (to a degrading degree) of women was necessary, absolute, and virtuous in the eyes of God. When I spoke with the clergy, they acted as if most of it was a nonissue. I actually first went to a TLM because of Bishop Robert Barrons interview with Shia Labeouf. It saddens me beyond description to know that there are Catholics with such venom in their hearts. I hate to speak on this in a public forum, but I wish people to be wary about the TLM before they get hurt spiritually. Antisemitism is heretical since Vatican II, and there are other instances of preaching false doctrine that I care not to discuss in this public of a format. The TLM is wonderful if it is properly ordered and understood as a relic of tradition, but the beauty of Novus Ordo is just beginning to show its fruits. I think people cling to traditionalism (which is a formal logical fallacy by the way) because of the uncertainty of our culture, but it is a facade that I pray people don't cling to. Also, all of this is coming from someone who was sheltered in California, and assumed all the 2016 talk about racism, sexism, and bigotry was fake news. Sadly, it isn't, and it's not just fundamental christians succumbing to this hatred, it is even affecting our Church. I think Traditionis Custodes was an important step, and I pray that it is enough.
not my experience at all. i go to the TLM because of its beauty and reverence nothing to do with the ills of current society. you are making judgments just as you are accusing people at the parish you went to making judgments. sorry for your bad experience. may our good God lead you to a good parish and give you peace.@@danielsullivan7541

I am struggling with the idea of "coherent dialogue" and Pope Francis. Isn't his wordsmithing and obtuseness one of the many problems with his leadership?
I've been following Francis closely since he was elected, as I followed JP2 and B16 closely before him. I don't recognize anything like "wordsmithing and obtuseness" in what he says and does. His teaching is clear and beautiful, just as were those of his predecessors.
@@barry1578 sure,...hence the CONTRO part of it. Your statement does not mean that the Pope's things/teaches are legitimate though, not their statements are legitimate. The Pope does not get carte blanche on teaching.
@guillermomaguire5394 I see what you're saying. My comment wasn't clear enough. They don't like the elements of Catholic doctrine that he emphasizes (e.g. on Catholic social teaching, liturgy) and he's not traditionalist enough for them, and so they come up with all kinds of false criticisms and crises in order to undermine what he says and does in general. Also, in the age of social media, even the most wacked-out, uninformed wingnuts have a voice, which is not always positive.
The US, or west generally, today vaguely reminds me of pre Christian Rome. Although many differences, some parallels can be drawn between paganism or non believers being the majority, conflict in the Holy land, persecution (albeit not as extreme... Yet!) of followers of Jesus, moral depravity, degenerate ideas and practices, etc.
Bishop Barrens statement of questioning the existence of Hell, or if anyone is actually is in Hell demonstrates his modernistic views…NOT as a Catholic I want to go or who I want to listen to for Truth…
Great that he talks of the guidance of the Holy Spirit, but not once did he mention the doctrine, correction and reproof of the Scriptures. Divine revelation has power in ways aquinas or “intellectual tradition” does not.
As intensely inspiring as always. But no, there is no generalized reawakening of an interest in religion yet. Niches, sure. But nothing of significance, unfortunately.
I agree with Barron that not all knowledge is reduceable to science. No one believes that. But I don't see how Aquinas' so-called "proofs" are reduceable to knowledge.
Great interview but why can't Bishop Barron say the Catholic church instead of the broad term of Christianity. Now more than ever the clergy must push out the beautiful faith of Catholicism
Learn how to understand language and metaphor when reading, especially knowing that the Holy Bible was translated from three different languages by approximately 36 writers in three separate continents. Also, redefine your God who sits on a throne. Somehow, he had the power to create the universe but couldn't make a snake talk. God is indefinable by anything other than peace and love. This is the God faithful Catholics and Christians alike believe in ❤ What is love?
I’m sorry, but the good bishop is not paying attention to real people. Atheists are not nihilistic and we’re not crazy. We have not stopped asking questions. In fact, it’s usually because we *are* asking questions that we leave the Church behind. We are not so stupid to think that science is the only thing, just the best method for understanding the natural world. We have joy, beauty, love, and depth in our lives. In fact, not putting stock in an imaginary afterlife compels us to make the most of this life. Perhaps if the good bishop engaged in honest dialogue with folks like Alex O’Connor, Bart Ehrman, Drew from Genetically Modified Skeptic, Brandon from MindShift, perhaps he’d understand what is really going on with atheists today. Instead, he’s knocking down straw men. I’d like to see him walk the walk and engage in a “good argument” with one of those folks. Be *honest* about who atheists are and stop mischaracterizing us.
He is modernist not a traditional catholic. He celebrates the new mass. He was ordained in the new rite of 1969. Probably not priest or bishop. Maybe just a layman
11:58 Why do theists always seem so disconnected from reality? * we live in a reality where we don't have evidence of a god. So we don't know one exists. * we live in a reality where the evidence strongly indicates a downward trend in religion that _is not_ reversing. So we do know non-belief is on the rise. Aquinas doesn't change that. We've known the errors to his arguments for hundreds of years. You know like how contingency arguments must commit to one (and only one) answer that either (a) everything or (b) not everything has a cause. If A, an uncaused god is impossible. If B, a god isn't logically necessary (any given thing might be uncaused, assuming we don't currently have reason to believe it was caused). The fact that the errors to these arguments are well-known but solutions to the problems aren't forthcoming is a significant factor in the decline of religion.
Not so. No serious proponent of the contingency argument would hold to your first proposition. The claim is that all contingent things have a cause. As to your second option, the contingency argument does not rely on the assumption that not everything has a cause. In fact, the conclusion of the demonstration is that the non-contingent ground does not have a cause. In order to get the argument off the ground, all one needs is one contingent state of affairs. If you had parents, breathe air, and eat food, then you qualify.
@@BishopBarron Sure, clearly anyone wanting to conclude an uncaused god exists wouldn't commit to "A". But the alternative "B" rips out the heart of contingency arguments, which is causality. Without things needing causes, there's no need to insist a god is required to cause any given thing. I agree Aquinas and basically everyone making similar argument doesn't mention proposition "B". The problem is if the conclusion is an uncaused god that implicitly requires "B" be the arguer's position, at which point they've abandoned causality, and the argument can't use causality to establish logical necessity.
I s😅nt want to listen to atheists anymore. ...I believe these truths and all that the Catholic church teaches, because You have revealed them, who cannot deceive nor be deceived... That leaves atheistsisn with no O.U.T. except the great deceiver...S.A..T..A...😂❤😅

Bishop Barron's response was...not good to say the least. "Christ is the PREFERRED mode of Salvation."
@@jaboah1 he has never explained it. I believe that you are complacent. Come back to the Catholic Church. EVIDENCE, that's what the world is asking for, not bloviated sophistry. Evidence that what theists are trying to peddle is true. BB as per usual offers absolutely nothing.
@@therealong For goodness sake, it's obvious that I am referring to "evidence" when I say "absolutely nothing". He only talks about spreading the "message". Very few people today are interested in a "message" unless it is supported by sufficient and compelling evidence. So if I am lying, instead of a vacuous assertion, try providing a single sentence containing just a mustard seed's worth of empirical evidence to support the truth of 1 Corinthians 15: 14. In a direct conversation with BB I issued him with this challenge and his silence has been deafening.
@@downenout8705 I'm trying to understand your point of view, but neither who read your comments have EVIDENCE that you have had a direct conversation with BB and he didn't willingly answer. At the contrary, I would think he might have a lot to talk about your proposed verse.
@@therealong Believe me or not I don't care, it does nothing to alter the fact that you failed to provide the single sentence that I asked for. Argumentation and bloviated sophistry is no substitute for empirical evidence. It never ceases to amaze me how few Christians have sufficient intellectual integrity to reply "I accept that there is no empirical evidence to support the biblical resurrection claim, but the evidence that I do have, combined with my personal experience and faith is sufficient for me to believe in the truth of 1 Corinthians 15: 14". Now I would almost certainly disagree that your reasons are sufficient, but at least the conversation can be an intellectually honest one.

@@barry1578 and yet, so much controversy. Enjoy your day.
@guillermomaguire5394 Controversy intentionally stirred up by people who do not like certain things that he teaches or does.
Also, in the age of social media, even the most wacked-out, uninformed wingnuts have a voice, which is not always positive.
is there any way the full video link of this clip be posted too😅 I think I need to hear more... eventhough I have seen a lot of bishop's videos😊❤
I wish a could assist to one of his masses.
Bishop Barron, after Thomas Aquinas, which book of Thomas Merton drew you deeper into loving God? interested to read it! thanks very much!
Seven Storey Mountain
Barron for pope!
William F. Buckley...yes sir!
It wasn’t necessary to come out of the gate taking jabs at traditionalists with those cassock remarks. We are still the black sheep it seems.
Not if you just ignore these types.
What does he think of the synod? Especially today's letter issued.
St. AUGUSTINE, pray for us..
Cassocks good
Cassocks are a problem? Come on.
Communicating Faith and Hope enlivened by the Holy Spirit in a very noisy world
As intensely inspiring as always. But no, there is no generalized reawakening of an interest in religion yet. Niches, sure. But nothing of significance, unfortunately.
I’m thinking of moving to Roman Catholicism, when the Pope says an atheist who has his two sons baptised will be in Heaven, sounds too good to be true.
William F. Buckley Jr!!!!! Also a great Catholic.
Get great gospel lessons at Coffee With the Goose.
To hear a catholic say atheism is a type of “mysticism” is hilarious. So talking snakes, talking donkeys, magical spells and curses isn’t mystical??
Learn how to understand language and metaphor when reading, especially knowing that the Holy Bible was translated from three different languages by approximately 36 writers in three separate continents. Also, redefine your God who sits on a throne. Somehow, he had the power to create the universe but couldn't make a snake talk. God is indefinable by anything other than peace and love. This is the God faithful Catholics and Christians alike believe in ❤
What is love?
If atheist support or a fan of a team or an athlete he may pray to win the team against opponent
Run from the Novus Ordo!!!
You are against radical traditionalism? Please expand….
Hmmmm. I don't think so. BTW, am not a liberal.
Isn’t this the same bishop that says “we hope that hell is empty”? We all know that Hell is NOT empty
Hope is not expectation. As a Catholic you must hope. Who is you hope is not saved?. Barron has explained this many times. Its in the Catechism.
Being sceptical of religious priests supernatural 'truth ' claims seems perfectly reasonable to me.
Atheists don't feel hopeless. We just don't think there's a magic man in the sky who can make everything better.
Sigh...Dave, please look up the meaning of "straw man" in the dictionary.
Catholics don’t believe in a magic man in the sky either.
He is modernist not a traditional catholic. He celebrates the new mass. He was ordained in the new rite of 1969. Probably not priest or bishop. Maybe just a layman
I also don't believe in atheist nonsense..
I used to watch EWTN, but no longer. It got too progressive
Sad, so very sad. The only business of the church is to save souls. And he still doesn’t get it. He’s worried about wearing a Cassick?
I s😅nt want to listen to atheists anymore. ...I believe these truths and all that the Catholic church teaches, because You have revealed them, who cannot deceive nor be deceived... That leaves atheistsisn with no O.U.T. except the great deceiver...S.A..T..A...😂❤😅
Hard pass.
I noticed that they showed a clip from his interview with Ben Shapiro. I do find it peculiar that they didn't show the clip of him responding to Ben Shapiro's question concerning his belief that Jesus was not the Messiah nor was he God made man. Bishop Barron's response was...not good to say the least. "Christ is the PREFERRED mode of Salvation."
He has explained it severally. It seems your mind is already made up. Seek peace and love my sibling in Christ
@@jaboah1 he has never explained it. I believe that you are complacent. Come back to the Catholic Church. He also has preached on this absolute fallacy of this reasonable hope that nobody is in hell which is contrary to scripture and the Church. And when ask where the clergy is when BLM and others were destroying churches in he claimed that that was on the shoulders of laity. We have a problem with clergy and he's part of it.
Another smug well heeled cleric. No church of the poor for him. Pope Francis has a tough job sorting these careerists.
Oh Bishop Barron!! To hear you after feeling a bit disjointed without you here at home and although the treasured Sunday Sermons being aired for us while you are in Rome are always tonic for the soul, we all anxiously wait for your safe return!!! And should the Vatican ever “try” to keep you there, please let them know that we will pay the ransom! I am literally walking on air, my heart is full because you are simply remarkable and a true gift to us from God! My goodness, Bishop Barron, but He surely has a overbrimming heart whenever He listens to you as He did today! EVIDENCE, that's what the world is asking for, not bloviated sophistry. Evidence that what theists are trying to peddle is true. BB as per usual offers absolutely nothing.
@@downenout8705
Not true BB offers absolutely nothing. What would you expect a sermon?
@@therealong For goodness sake, it's obvious that I am referring to "evidence" when I say "absolutely nothing". He only talks about spreading the "message". Very few people today are interested in a "message" unless it is supported by sufficient and compelling evidence.
So if I am lying, instead of a vacuous assertion, try providing a single sentence containing just a mustard seed's worth of empirical evidence to support the truth of 1 Corinthians 15: 14. In a direct conversation with BB I issued him with this challenge and his silence has been deafening.
@@downenout8705
I'm trying to understand your point of view, but neither who read your comments have EVIDENCE that you have had a direct conversation with BB and he didn't willingly answer.
I hear you much love and health to you both

I keep or allow God's been in me in uncertainty of my belief since God as I AM does not "work".
One of the things that I noticed with Bishop Barron was his Very Strong Christian faith tempered with historical knowledge and education. Although he mentions tradition of Catholicism, he does not sound like a typical catholic leader. Preaching more on the lessons of Christ and the body of the gospels. Less about the saints and more on the will of God for us. Just my observation anyway.
