- Video shows mood lighting (some may refer to as Tron lighting) installed in BMW E60 5 Series 530d.
The light is called 'EL Wire' and you can buy it as kits from eBay for a very fair price. It added the extra cosiness feeling and looked great when driving at night.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

That's amazing!! DIY Vid?
It is indeed. Thanks a lot mate!
I have some questions. First what lights did you use and is it a kit? Second how much did it cost .
Hi,
The light is called 'EL wire' and you can buy kits from eBay. I did this installation years ago, so will not remember the exact cost, but it was very minimal. Probably around £30 or something like that.
Hope it helps.
@@DIY_it_ALL did you have to cut the wiring yourself ? Or is it already pre measured out?
@@MegaReesesPieces1 I had to cut them to length and solder to power cables, but have a look online, perhaps you will find someone who could supply them pre-cut or lengths suitable for your project.
Though might be worth to mention that if you will want to cut them yourself, it can be a bit tricky at first and I will tell you why:
The actual EL wire (emitting blue colour) is inside an insulated sleeve to separate it from the ground wire. Then both wires are placed inside another sleeve (coloured outer sleeve to give it the desired colour) and the whole thing is 2.3mm thick.
So when it comes to stripping both sleeves to expose ground and glowing wires, it is very easy to break them. A top tip from experience would be to cut the whole EL wire to the needed length only after the soldering part is complete, and obviously take extra care when peeling off the those sleeves.
Good luck with your project!
Any way possible you can tell me how you did this? It would be much appreciated!
15 meters of orange EL Wire,
4x 12V DC to 12V AC transformers,
30 meters of cable and
two weekends (taking my time) of labour removing all panels, wiring all up and installing the light strip.
+agdgdwango hi mate where are you based i wanted the same style can you help me please i dont mind paying thanks
+Ash K see my reply above.
Which cable did you tap into for all lights?
@@JosephHuynh can tap into the electric window switch or the cigarette lighter
Hi where did U plug wires (+ -) in the door?
Piotr K1986
I ran separate power cables from each door to the centre console and power it all up there. However this is only because I wanted to have mood lighting independently dimmable and on a separate switch.
I would imagine you should be able to get power from the window open/close buttons.
where to buy?

I'm based in South East London mate. What is the car you are looking to install mood lighting in?

Cool, I can send you some pics of the process if you'd like. It's not that difficult just takes time. Soldering EL Wire and wiring it all up in the car are most time consuming tasks.
+agdgdwango ok do you have whatsapp mate
+agdgdwango im also based in south east London
Unfortunately I don't use WhatsApp. The closest app to WhatsApp I use is FB Messenger. lol
