How long does it take to render your projects? This style animation reminds me of Coil Book for kids. Its captivating and your follow-through camera work is amazing. Followed.
Thank you very much! Lately my average render time is about 6 hours per race, using Eevee, 4K, 60 fps. In a five-race video like this one with a tiebreaker and replays, probably 35 to 40 hours total.
Many thanks for the feedback! The problem is that speeding them up will mean the camera has to be further from the action, which is okay but it means less eye candy. What I'm thinking now is fast sections where the camera is further away and we're focused on racing, balanced with slower, eye candy sections where we can zoom in and focus on aesthetics. We'll see how that works out. 😀

It takes about two days to build the track, two days to run and film the races, two days for editing, adding music etc. I don't have videos showing the process - I am still fairly new to Blender and probably doing 100 things the wrong way so I don't want to share that. I will at some point in the future when my Blender skills have improved. :)
Made in Blender. Wouldn't call it an app exactly - it's like the space shuttle of software, definitely the most complex program I've ever seen. And that's part of the fun. :)
I think the reason people love animated races so much is that there are things possible in animation that are difficult or impossible to do in real life - like the camera chasing the balls down a tunnel. Much respect though to folks who do real life marble races. They have awesome skill and patience and dedication. I think the ideal is for animation and real life to feed each other. I take inspiration from real life marble races and I would consider it an honor and compliment if I see real life races influenced by my animations.
Well it's animation. Fake isn't the right word because I don't claim that it is anything other than animation. It's real animation. :) It uses complex simulated physics and marbles do end up on the floor all the time. I try to keep them on the track, but watch a few more races and you'll see marbles on the floor!
Yeah, trying to come up with fun new track sections for each new race. Sometimes several new track sections! :) In this one there were some ideas that I want to explore further in future races, like the loop and the tunnel. Variations of those ideas coming in the next race.

Fair enough. :) I am blown away by the incredible accuracy of the physics built into 3D animation software, specifically Blender in this case. And with animation new things are possible that are difficult or impossible in real life, e.g. night races, variety of balls/surfaces, crazy camera angles, variable gravity, toy planes flying through the scene etc. Much respect to people who do marble races in real life though.
Thank you, I take that as a compliment! I strive for a degree of realism while not actually tricking people. I include things like the airplane and objects floating in the air so that people can see that it is 3D animation, as you did eventually. :)
