This song should be heard in context of the entire album and even more so with the previous album (Clear Bell) to get the full impact. This is an artist coming into his own after years of building their craft to a point where it works beautifully.
I'd say he has been in his own element since at least his Mount Eerie album as the Microphones, if not the Glow Pt 2, which I still say is far and away the pinnacle of Lo Fi DIY production.
