When I built my shop, I made one mistake that has been a thorn in my side for 30+ years. Do NOT build workbenches along the walls! You need to be able to access and work from all sides of a project. My favorites are set on troll cab bases with steel or wood tops. A good friend found this in some old publication on how to set up a shop. Wish I had found this out before I put benches along two walls. I really like the Stanley Vidmar boxes, with the 25" square drawers. You can interchange drawers and put them in any order you like. They're not cheap even used, but the versatility is outstanding. As someone else stated, put everything you can on casters. Swivel on one end and straight on the other. They should all be locking. If you ever get it perfect, then bolt them down! You might want to try some grey color on the hair. Mine's white but I earned every strand😁😁😁😁😁😁
Every project I've sold was later deeply regretted. Happy New Year mate, may it bring you nothing but the best. Edit: the wheel looks better than factory! Nice.
The first video I watched was the short of the vw exhaust being assembled and naturally i just HAD to see what it was going into.. so I watched the full build vid then this steering wheel vid. You sir are very talented! SUBSCRIBED!!👍👍
I've had good luck using PC-7 epoxy to repair steering wheels. It seems to have the same expansion/contraction characteristics as the original wheel, so cracks won't reappear. I don't know if it's available in Australia but I've found it at my local hardware store here in the States. Also, cleaning out the cracks can be done with a small triangular file and/or a selection of small riffler files, for those people who don''t have a Dremel or hand grinder.
@@bennettscustomsco I just checked, and PC-7 does appear to be available on Amazon in Australia. I didn't dig any further to see if it's carried in the local hardware stores. It's a useful product to have around the shop, it can be used for a lot of other things besides steering wheels. Steering wheels can be a little tricky to work on since they have a lot of inside curves and recesses and finger notches in the rim and things, it can be tedious to get the patches leveled out so they won't be noticeable after painting. I think I had to use every file, grinder, and sandpaper I had on hand before I was satisfied with mine. 🙂 Thanks for your channel, by the way - you do a good job of showing the process of fabrication, and I appreciate your creativity and design style.
Nice trip back, remember watching this and getting some really good information (never thought to grind open the cracks)! Looking forward to another year of great content, builds, and tutorials! Go Bennetts Customs and family, keep moving forward!
Espectacular tu trabajo !!! Me encanta y siempre espero ver tus avances y obviamente que la familia está primero....saludos desde buenos aires , argentina ....para cuándo te vas a armar un y-block con buenos fierros australianos? Acá somos fans del y-block el único v8 de producción nacional en su momento
Keep looking after your family Jordan there special. I tried to bring back a 40s ford steering wheel from the early ford store about 5 years ago and came home with a repo. Never the same but if ever I do come across one I can always change it. It would be disappointing to loose your roadster now. All the best for 2025 to you and the crew. You’ll figure out your work stations when you start working again. Cheer 🍻Tim.
wow, was a little concerned you lost a bet with that surfer dude hair bud! Nice job on the steering wheel. Put casters on everything you can in the shop. You'll be moving stuff around for years!
Great video, cool flashback with the steering wheel...was worried at first that the shop move was so stressful your hair had turned grey. Yeah, I'm not grey haired, mine's turning matte chrome hahaha Have a great 2025, thanks for sharing your work online
I've heard of people using a mixture of baking soda and super glue instead of bondo. I've not tried it myself so I can't say if it works or not. But I do have a old wheel that's cracked sooo...
I want to do my '54 steering wheel. A lot of cracks and gaps in grip area. Would you do anything different there? Or just soften edges before fiberglass. Cheers from Nova Scotia Canada
Hope you don’t have to give up on your dream car! I know sometimes that has to happen but you will regret that decision and it will eat at your soul, I speak from experience.
Hey mate, what is making you feel like you have to sell your roadster? You seem a bit burnt out, I run my own business also and know the feeling. Hope all is well ✌🏻
@ sorry to hear that legend, I know the UA-cam algorithm is a cruel mistress and you have to keep up the posting frequency but I’m sure all of your subscribers would totally understand if you needed to take time off ✌🏻
That wheel came out beautifully, thanks for sharing.
