- A friend of my Dad's brought me this motor for service. it came on a boat that he and a friend of his purchased together. It's a nice clean little 6hp and it runs beautifully after an ignition tune up and a new water pump impeller.
Got a soft spot for those. My first motor was a new 1966 Johnson 6. I had my original 1970 Johnson 6 on display at Tomahawk this last summer that I bought from my friend a few years ago.
Me too. I really like the little OMC 6hp motors. Thanks for watching!
Not bad for a 1965 6 horse Johnson! Thank you for sharing this Ben! Dare I say “stay warm” now! Cloudy here in southeast Iowa today. Have a great week ahead! Looking forward to the next two uploads! Mark in Iowa.
That's respectable for a first gen OMC 6hp. That's right on par with what I would expect. Yes, it's time for "stay warm"! Thanks for watching, Mark!
Big boat for a 6 hp.That motor is running strong.10mph is pretty good.
It is a very nice running little 6hp. It ran right where I expected it to. Beautiful little fishing motor. Thanks for watching!
58 years old and running like it's just nicely broken in. Awesome little motor. Thanks again for the video!
This is a nice one. It has decent power for a 1st generation 6hp OMC, beautiful idle and a nice crisp exhaust note. Everything works nicely and runs beautifully. Thanks for watching!
That’s another little honey of a motor.
How about making a house call in February to service my 84” Johnson 25 down in Georgia, you should be ready to escape winter about then I bet 😉. Aren’t you in Wisconsin?
I think you could host a “how to service and bring back to life clinic” on these oldies, I’d be there.
Thanks
Thank you! The owner of this one just came and picked it up this afternoon. It is a little gem of a motor. I am actually from SE Michigan. I usually make it to WI every year for the Tomahawk meet but I live quite a distance from there. I am usually pretty ged up with winter by February, but not sure I'm ready to make a house call to GA, LOL. Thanks for watching!
Hey Ben I'm in point place how far am I from you?
Also how would I get ahold of you if I was needing motor service from you?😇
I'm around an hour from Point Place. I do occasionally do some work on customer motors. Three already this year. That's usually a whole winter's worth for me. I may be able to take something else on depending on what it is. Drop me a line at bbreitner at hotmail dot com. Thanks for watching!
Looking for an outboard mechanic for a 15 horse Johnson. In southeast Michigan! Trying to avoid the big box stores! I also have a 6hp like this. Nice motor!
I had a 65 5hp.
The 5s are strange little creatures but they run nicely. The 6 definitely has the performance edge, but they are both nice little motors for their purposes. Thanks for watching!
Ever ran a hiawatha 12 horsepower? I can't find anything about them anywhere and I'm not sure what fuel mixture to run through it either
A 12hp Hiawatha must be a Gale-built motor. I recently got one, but it still needs a full service. I have a Sea King 12hp also, which is the same motor other than colors. They are 16:1 motors. All plane bearing powerheads and they need the oil to survive. They're good runners. They just need plenty of oil in the fuel. Thanks for watching!
Just picked one up in very good shape. Runs great. I’ve always had 6hp evinrudes so this is my first Johnson and it’s a great little machine
They're really nice little fishing motors. Other than paint color, graphics, and a little different cowl shape it is identical to its Evinrude counterpart. Enjoy your new motor and thanks for watching!
I have a 1972 Johnson 6 hp and it is my favorite engine.
They're great little motors. I have several 6hp OMCs and they always bring a smile to my face. Thanks for watching!
Nice 6 horse,10 mph ain't bad,I just got done refurbishing a 1971 Johnson 6 horse,runs great, always enjoy watching your videos! 👍
Pretty happy with 10mph with a 6HP in a 16 foot boat in less than ideal conditions on the lake today. Nice feeling to get through them and have them running so nicely. Thanks for watching!
@@oldjohnnyrude8404 yes that's pretty good,I'm wondering what I'll get out of my 71 Johnson 6, it'll be on my 67 alumacraft f7 14 ft, Omc all the way!!
@@jimm1975 The F7 should be slightly faster than the K which is oddly slightly faster than my FD. Any time I can get over 10mph with a Gen 1 OMC 6 or over 9mph with an OMC 5.5 I'm pretty happy about it. 👍
