lol at my video getting age restricted because of that smoking crack b-roll haha. Hope somebody out there lol'd at that because it cost me dearly in algorithmic advantage 🤣
During the pandemic, myself and some friends started working out together via zoom call. One was now living in Brisbane, another in France and the other two in Cornwall and Essex respectively. We'd all been gymgoers back in the 1990's, some dropped out, most had families, some tried to continue but all the important gains were made way back then. Now - in our mid-fifties - we started training again. Not religiously and not with a goal to be any better - just to not get any worse. Three years later and I'd say we'd recovered maybe 80% of what we had 30yrs earlier. Feel pretty good about that tbh...
Brilliant Joe. I’m 77 and have been training for a lot of years. The secret is just keep at it. I fairly fit for my age . You state the obvious but it’s so hard for a lot of people . I don’t lift anywhere the weights I used to but I still move weights
Effing love this guy. Videos always informative and in simple terms. And always good for a laugh or 2. I’m in decent shape for 44, and when anyone asks, I always say consistency is key. My diet could be better, I’d be in better shape if I didn’t drink. But I’ve put in 20+ years of graft. The hardest part is getting your ass to the gym every other day. Once you’re there it’s relatively easy.
I needed this video man. I've been feeling so much pressure from myself ranging from my fitness goals to work, uni, money blah blah. Thank you so much for this ❤
Joe dear boy, I have watched, studied 1,000s of UA-cam vids over the past 5 or so years, together with other study work and I must say, this one is POSSIBILY the most all encompassing one to date. Nice one
Thanks Joe for the realistic encouragement. This makes a lot of sense and is a welcome break from people peddling the latest supplement or confusing new “scientific data” on the newest workout. Cheers!
For me getting a small home gym and focusing on calisthenics dramatically increased my consistency. Adherence is effortless when you know you can do 20-30mins a day. When i finished work, it was always 50/50 as to whether i would actually go to the gym or straight home.
Thoughtful video as usual. I've got to the point in my training and life where I enjoy training. It's my happy place. When I don't go, I don't stress. It's normally when life dictates like family and kids. Or I might just need an extra rest day. The by-product of this endeavor is a decent physique. It's just that. A byproduct.
Been subscribed for a while and I think this is your best video to date. Massively reassuring and motivating. Sometimes I want to beat myself up about skipping a session but I know I shouldn't. The video was as humorous, educational and well explained as ever and I loved the part about abandoning your family and going on a 4 day drug fuelled bender. Top editing as well. Hope you have a lot of subscribers called Kevin.
Been waiting for a new vid and get one on each channel in one day. Will like and come back later to watch for the algorithm. Literally the only guy I can be assed to watch these days as everyone else just seems to upload bullshit.. Loving the Push app as well, hats off to the guys for that! Just wondering if RIR and RPE are featured in it as just been using it the past week 🤔👌🏼
Not sure why this didn’t come up earlier but… This is bloody fantastic, I’ve been going to the gym for two years now, if I look back at how I was (v skinny) and how I am now, there is a lot of progress. Not big, but more filled out. If I look back, I know I could’ve made more progress if I committed (ie I moved out of uni flat and went independent in June (going gym 5 times a week then) but didn’t get a new membership till September. I’ve probably averaged 2x per week since then, with some injury. Last week I did 4 days in the gym, + some home bicep and shoulders workout. Showing up for myself, and committing made me feel so much better! And I actually feel as though I’m where I want to be. I’ll be back in month to recomment and let you all know how it goes
I didn’t actually click on this video for fitness advice, just some of the good Joey D wisdom 😁 but that bit at the end about doing things because they’re a choice rather than doing things because we feel we have to is where I’ve been slipping up. Ultimately I know what has to be done day in and day out, but I’ve always approached everything with a ‘this must be done or else’ type of approach, to the point I take so many notes, in my phone, in my diary etc and end up stressing. In reality while a reminder is nice sometimes, I am conscious enough to know what needs to be done and that phrase just reminded me. Wu wei 🙌🏼
Big thing that helps me stay consistent is front-loading tasks in the morning. Personally, exercising in the evening if probably the last bloody thing I want to do, so I box it off in the morning and don’t have to think about. Prep clothes night before. Eliminating the friction, reducing steps involved and at times, it does require a degree of grit and tenacity to just do it
Very interesting Taoist approach, made me think of Sprezzatura, performing a skilled action with effortless grace, a concept by Italian Renaissance philosopher Castiglione. To practice in everything a certain nonchalance that shall conceal design and show that what is done and said is done without effort and almost without thought.

the video has a very useful/helpful message, mayhaps expand/repackage/repurpose it in a future video without "offending" the algorithm?
Yeah fr, I second that! @@IonTrone
In my extremely biased opinion, totally worth.
