Hey I went to Panama City by myself in April. Just started walking from hotel for about 2 1/2 hours over rough sidewalks, cross over walk etc. All my friends said I was crazy but I enjoyed myself and I am going back! I am 71,female,not athletic but like to see the world. Wish I had started younger. Enjoy be safe!
I remember being there in the late 90's. We had great fun. Me and my Latino buddies in the army drove everywhere, when we had a free time. It's always good to travel with Spanish speaking friends there. It saves a lot of headaches.
Great video!!! My Dad was in the US Army and we were stationed in Panama from 1991-1995. He worked at Quarry Heights (Ancon Hill) and we lived on Fort Clayton. I've always wanted to go back and visit again.
Very nice , my great grandfather was Belisario Porras 3 times president of Panama I thank you for your visit to the mountain Cerro Ancon a the rest of the city .I used to live in California for all the 80 through 90 and I love California .take care .
That was Quarry Heights - housing for an American military base - not a boarding school. This was populated by Americans until we turned the canal over.
I was there during the transition of turning it over. I was in the army in an engineering battalion, fixing up infrastructures before the turn over. We had a great time with the indigenous locals. They brought us exotic fruits and shined our boots, with pay of course.
@@Dapper_Dean That’s cool. My history there is my dad was stationed at Fort Amador with AAFES. That was in 1978 during the newly ratified Canal Treaty under Carter, I was in grade school at the time and remember Mondale visiting and even a random sniping event aimed at a DODDs school bus. I just remember being happy to have the day off school. Haha.. good memories overall though. Went to Amador last month and saw the remains of our crumbling graffiti’d duplex - that was very cool.
@@Zoiekiwicoco Hi Kris, you are absolutely right. I am Panamanian. The big hospital used to be a US Army Hospital: Gorgas Army Community Hospital. Now is a hospital for cancer treatment. All that area was military facilities. Quarry Hights was a community for US armed Forces Officers. Anyhow, I hope you can come and visit Panama 🇵🇦. Best regards 🤗🙋
Very nice video. The area of the Gorgas Hospital in Ancon was US Military base property. All of the old houses you saw were military base housing. After the end of the US & Panama treaty, the houses became privatized and now the mid to high class is able to afford purchasing those properties. That area in Ancon has lots of history. Also to clarify, that is not really the getho. There are areas that are considered red zones that you could not even walk unless you are part of the gangs. The government should invest in renovating the Ancon area as it symbolizes military unity, high labor, and cultural mixture.
Great video. I was born in Panama I'm from Calidonia and I've never seen the Ancon hill lol I'm actually going back home next week after 20 years. So much to do with little bit of time but I'm going to make the best out of my 5 days.😢
Facts… like you’d never see a video of nyc tourism with a tour of the south Bronx…. Poverty is not exclusive to the “third world” but if you watched only UA-cam videos that’s what you’d think.
Also, I just looked up the statistics and Panama doesn't even make top 10 for most traveled countries by international tourists in Latin America, so you're wrong there 😁 www.statista.com/statistics/305482/latin-american-countries-with-the-most-international-tourist-arrivals/
@@maple_john ahh ok got it but that could have been said about any country during the pandemic but the context wasn’t clear. Sorry lol native Panamanian and I am always making sure the view isn’t skewed by non Panamanians lol… but I understand your intent now.🎉
Lol you basically toured my birth city. The hospital is a cancer research facility now I believe but I was born there. I'm suprised you walked as well. It's not good to walk with your phone out. I guess the camera helped you but Panamanians are nice generally. Ancon is beautiful though, I suggest going in the day. You can even be like a normal Panamanian and go to a hotel pool for the day
Watched the video for a while then got too dizzy from you camera movement. Steady that hand and you will have some great content. You video content is not the same old, same old that people mostly present.
It's pretty eerie to see Panama city practly like a ghost town right now. Normally there is so much traffic no matter what time of day or night. No thanks to over the top Covid mandates.
Que locura, cuidado por esas calles peligrosas en Panama. But as you know every country has good and bad parts of town. In USA 🇺🇸 there is also shady parts that I would not go.
Trust me, the Dangerous slums in panama you would lose your phone immediately, even as a Panamanian I can’t go over there because they’ll know I’m a US citizen and will attempt to extort.
What business you have visiting the slum as a tourist? Nothing good. I’m Panamanian born and a uS citizen too. They will only know that I’m a us citizen if I tell them. What ? Avoid the slump, there’s nothing good in there unless otherwise 👋🏼
John: Your video footage is very nice. But, without references to where you are I don't find your videos very useful, if I am interested in travelling to Panama. For example, include references to areas, streets, neighborhoods, etc. You made some references, but not enough to be useful. I really do not enjoy videos when I can't reference the locations. Consider this constructive criticism.
Criticism taken. Thank you. I can add more Google maps pin drops (as images in the scenes) that visually show where I am. The problem with that is having too much makes the content feel bloated. So I need to work on finding the right balance

How you able to use your phone ? what did you use for navigation?
Actually, Chorillo , the area you attempted to avoid isn't too bad to walk around in the daytime if you would of just stayed on Ave Central.
I know that and that's why I choose that route. Overall wasn't that dangerous but I was followed
I miss Panama I have been in Panama 3 years ago 😍
I love it!

Hey just wanted to say my mom was from cologne Panama and still have a lot of family there but most migrated to New York or California
These youtubers now spend their time making videos of the rich and poor parts of Panama, know that there are horrifying parts in the USA

I was talking about my observations when I was there. I barely saw any international tourists when I was in Panama City. That could be different now

Have you been to Boquete and Bocas del Toro? It’s full of Europeans. Germans, English people. They usually don’t stay in the city
You obviously haven’t been to certain parts of LA or Oakland, California.
Watch my other videos - I argue that parts of the USA are more dangerous than latin America
Just left PTY/ you filmed were I was on that point

💯💯💯. At least 20 people are shot and killed in Chicago weekly, and people think USA is safer than LATAM countries 🤔
@@maple_john that's Chicago not the whole entire country. Could say the same thing about Panama as well
Giving a bad reputation to the country, not very nice. I bet he knows where to go and where not to before he traveled 😐
no boarding schools, military bases
Thanks, others here pointed that out
the whole country is wealthy....lol yeah ok
