Clever. I had no idea that the length of string needed on the controller corresponds to your arm position. I just assumed it was a random length. The manipulation is great - good evidence that you're on the right track with your stringing, even with your intended adjustments.
Very well defined technique of stringing. It's the simplest of the simple ones. A beginner should be very comfortable and confident in stringing ones own. Great! Thank you. This is Subhasis Sen from Tal-Betal Puppet Theatre, Kolkata; west-Bengal (India) .
Very cool! And thank you for the indepth view! I'm attempting my very first marionette and finding solid info is a little tricky. Thank you so much! You did a great job :D
Thank you for the comment. This video gets a lot of views but very few comments, so thanks. I have a playlist with how I make marionettes. There is one about how to assemble a marionette. I would love to help you anyway I can. If you have any questions please ask and I will get right back to you. Are you doing this for yourself or for a school project?
Thanks Rod, I sent the original comment from my private UA-cam channel but I’ll answer you from my projects channel, since this is where I’ll be making the marionette on I’m actually making a marionette that is shaped like a battery on its side and I’m having an issue with how to string the puppet so that the strings don’t get in the way do you maybe have an email address I can send the concept pictures to? And maybe you have some good advice on how to string up this puppet. The puppets will be used in a music video in about two weeks :)
Thank you for the tutorial video - How does one make sure that the arm strings and leg strings are away from each other enough to not prohibit the mobility and movement?
Good question! The strings of the marionettes knees and off the Marionette‘s hands have to come straight up or angled out slightly. The strings should not angle in towards the centre or they are in danger of getting tangled up.
Thanks for having a look at this and for commenting. This video get viewed many times a day and it gets very few comments. Thanks and have a wonderful day!
Great video. I'm looking to make my first marionette after this puppet but have always stressed about stringing. Can you tell me the thickness of paracord you used please?
@@WatercolourQuickandEasy Thanks Ron. I've seen 3mm but that seems excessively thick when you see it on a ruler. I'll keep digging for the 2mm. Thanks for your help.
@@attilathehamster6774 Very often I string marionettes with embroidery floss. It is super strong and comes in lots of different colours. It will be really easy to find. I have another video about how to string a marionette and I use the embroidery floss there.
Another great question. There is a video of me making this head. This marionette has a hole on each side of the head and a wooden dowel glued into the hole. Later when the glue is dried I put in an eye hook! ua-cam.com/video/8-cSZO0c1TI/v-deo.html There is an entire playlist.
Great question! Mostly I use embroidery floss. It is a type of sting that is strong and also does not flex. It also comes in lots of colours. You could also use para cord. That is what I use in this video. Let me know if you have any questions.

If you ever try moving a marionette around for even a few minutes with short strings your back will hate you! Thanks for the comment!

I believe this paracord is 2mm. Really the thinner stuff is not worth using!

Is that work in polymer clay to ?
I have not done this in polymer clay. I suppose it would work. If you give it a try please let me know how it turns out.
I have a cuple of really old puppets and the controller is really basic what would u sugest to fix it
If the strings work don't replace them. If you want more freedom of movement, add a separate controller for the hands and arms.
Do you run the string through the inside of the head like from the outside of the right ear through to the left ear and outside the left ear?

what was that circle thing that attached the arm controller? Was that a magnet?
Yes it is a magnet! I have another video about how I made the controller. Thanks for checking it out!
