Many years ago I tried reading Chinese newspapers, looking up one word at a time in the (hard book) dictionary. Couldn't make sense of it and gave it up. Love your approach here, and it's very effective!

I got Hsk-3 in October 2019.
I can understand when a native speaker explains grammar points, but when I listen to news, talkshows, or drama without English subtitles, I still have difficulties to understand the detalis, though I often get the idea of what it's all about...
Yes, in the news, talk shows they speak fast.

not only fast, but they use high-level vocabularies.
according to linguists, modern languages can list around 50.000 vocabularies.
among them only 10.000 are usrd very frequently in various media.
among 10.000 vocabularies, which are standard of Hsk-6, C1 of Europeannlanguages, and N1 of Japanese, only 2.000 - 4.000 are used in daily conversations....
when native speakers explain grammar, they use these 4.000 most common vocabularies, but in news, dramas, and talkshows, all these 10.000 are possible to be used...
Hsk 3 is still elementary level too.
Dont beat yourself up.

@@ayi3455 As long as you study vocab and listen to chinese content, it's only natural to improve in learning.
It's exactly how we learn advance vocab in our native language while in school.
We always had spelling and vocabulary tests in America.
