I totally agree He was God rest his sweet soul. Under appreciated ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ I had the pleasure of seeing him at The Old garden state art center in Jersey and Nioka theater in NYC
That heart ache wow I get that internal twinge too when I hear this , and it’s an era thing I think as I didn’t watch this avidly , I was about 11 in this heyday but even then the credits just struck with me on moonlighting
Most definitely miss this era back before I had the internet in my home. The sound of this brings the good memories to surface it is cool and Al sang it perfectly.
An amazing and uniquely talented guy. I used to watch "Moonlighting" every week just to hear him sing the theme song. I bet others did, too! His music was about the pure joy of life.
When I was 6 or 7, I would stay up at night until 10PM on a school night only to hear Al Jarreau sing this great song. REST IN PEACE, heaven is now blessed with your voice.
Well shit, if this isn't like taking a one way time machine ticket to 80'sville. Damn, Moonlighting was such an awesome show and captures perfectly the positivity the 80's was all about. This is going straight onto my playlist.
The great and inimitable 80's... back when being alive truly felt like magic. When there was still that last bit of surprise and discovery to everyday life. Even the bitter moments were tempered and buffered by the wonderful aspects all around. When life still felt "new and exciting". No doubt, the last of the great decades. _Dedicated to you Christine... a special song for a special lady... the pleasure in knowing you was mine... as well as the dark sorrow that has crippled me now that you are gone..._
waxing nostalgic, aren't we? i tell u, the LED-lit life we lead today can be just as magical as it was in the bygones of sodium-lamps - but if all memory was extinguished, and the times were to be measured by their music, then i'd have the same opinion as u - almost nothing past the 80s had this kind of feel - pure magic
Mr. Jaurreau is one of greatest jazz singers of all time. I had the experience of working with him in Chicago in 2003 when he performed at the Field Museum for hundreds of kids. A CD he made for children. One of the greatest moments of my life. Thank you Al.
The TV stations in my area played Bob James and just about any other great jazz fusion and electronic jazz in the PSAs...I was already there years earlier.
Oooh, I LUV this extended remixed version ! This song is still played on lite FM jazz stations over 30 yrs later. Brings back flashes of Cybil and Bruce fighting and flirting on the show. Sung by the inimitable Al Jarreau !
The 80's...there's nothing you can compare it to. Life was beautiful and exciting everyday. We had things that crept in if course, but as a whole? NOTHING AND I MEAN NOTHING WILL EVER compare to the 80's. Gosh I miss those years.
dude, ok, i'll agree that replacing the a la Kenny G sax w the a la Stevie harmonica added a worthy dimension, but calling the improv scat at the end of the tune crap? You seem more knowledgeable than that. That's priceless Alwin Lopez Jarreau...further listening is my suggestion.
The first time heard Al Jarreau sing I knew he was something different with his sound, range, and scatter skills. Most definitely one of the smoothest jazz singers of my Era. I still listen to his music as he is one of my Playlist singers. Will miss him dearly.
I feel you. I wasn't an AJ enthusiast but I dig this number and a couple others of his and miss his contribution to the jazz scene. He performed smooth jazz before the term smooth jazz was a thing 🙌 He beat boxed before rappers made beat boxing famous! When we look for pioneers of smooth jazz AJ belongs in that collection with George Benson and Randy Crawford and Lee Ritenour.
Hi Al, i hope you are well rested and continue to be the brightest star that we can all see from down here. I was around 13 when i first watched Moonlighting and enjoyed the show, but for me the end credits when you sang that iconic theme tune was the highlight for me. I've spent over 35 years hoping and praying i would hear it again and be able to play it on a loop! Thanks to the digital age everyone can enjoy your voice and i for one thank you sir. Rest in peace and continue to charm the angels. Much love brother.
I saw Al perform in 2004 he opened for the Rippingtons. Al was incredible, i have been a fan of the late Al Jarreau as far back as i can remember going back into the very early 1980's. He truly was a very classy singer in pop/ jazz music. R.I.P. Al Jarreau. Your music lives on as great timeless music.
i still cry to this day ,just listening to AL JARREAU. on this moonlighting soundtrack, it was just so perfect , so right & no one else could sing it better ,that much we do know , a pleasure just to have heard your vocal perfection ,
I Love the extended version of this song! And of course I LOVED the show. This is one of those shows that really should be made into a movie. But only of course if Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepard were in it, and Glen Gordon Caron was writing and producing it. And here's the thing, all THREE of them have said, and said recently I might add, that if the opportunity came for a "Moonlighting" Movie to be made, they would ALL do it in a second!! This needs to happen!!!
Beautiful tune - always reminds me of the good times in my life - I loved the show worked late but always made sure I was home in time to hear this song at the begining of one of the best programme's on TV !
She was Gorgeous, sometimes Frustrated/Tempermental and then there was David Addison: Handsome, Zany, HILARIOUS Off The Cuff and some times tender, loving and Serious with her. AND- 'YEAH BUDDY!' -We all LOVED IT!!!
"Don't you change" - that opening line says it all .... Bruce Willis unleashed upon an unsuspecting world - not to mention the fabulous Miss DiPesto. Remembering better times ... 💜
Absolutely know how you feel - but I'm just so grateful to have experienced those times at all (who'd be a teenager now - not me). Such precious memories ...
Blessings to all; a genius was called to the afterlife. Blessings to us because Al decided to be a musician. A one of a kind, lucky us we lived in his timeline.
I was quite fortunate I got to see Al Jarreau at the Town Hall in New York City on June 25, 2016. It was 7 months before he passed away. At the time, he had a very difficult time standing and had to be assisted when going to and from the stage. Regardless, it was a memorable show I will never forget. The Moonlighting theme song will forever be a top favorite from him, especially when I lived in L.A. for 2 years.
Love this theme song, takes me back and some fond memories of a great vacation trip to LA. Also loved the TV series with Cybil and Bruce. Thanks so much for taking me back :-)
No one else could sing this song and make it sound so beautiful. Al Jarreau pours his heart and soul into every song he does. Re a "Moonlighting" movie: if you could get Glen Gordon Caron to write it and Cybill Shepard and Bruce Willis to star in it, I'm all for it. I'd be afraid to let anyone else near it.
Glen Gordon Caron has said he'd write it, and Bruce Willis and Cybil Shepard have said many times if Glen wrote the script, they'd do a "Moonlighting" Movie in a heartbeat. This NEEDS to happen. The way that Moonlighting ended sucked. It's owed to the loyal fans of the show to have a Movie, and have it with the original cast and writers. And have it be as brilliant as the show was when it was first on the air. This is one of those instances where I truly think if you had all the original ingredients-The original writer of the show in Glen Gordon Caron, and the actual stars from the show-Bruce Willis and Cybil Shepard, that a Movie made from a hit TV Show would actually work. I truly do. Moonlighting was ahead of it's time when it was on the air for sure. Oh, and one more ingredient would so be needed from when the series was on the air-the reason why we came to this video in the first place-the original theme song from Moonlighting-this theme-needs to be part of the "Moonlighting" Movie too of course!
Absolutely LOOVVEE this song by Al Jarreau. Honestly, I would tune into the show so I could only hear the theme song. For years I tried finding this song on a 45" or 12"...so I am glad for youtube...I appreciate this extended version because the original was way too short. You are missed Mr. Jarreau...RIP!
This Song Says Something Special About The Sound of Music Back n Da Day!!! It Touches Your Heart & Takes You Back When There Was So Much "LOVE" To Give!! I Love This Song!! It's So Soothing To The "MIND". RIP🌹🌹Mr. Al Jarreau. You Left Behind A Legacy of Great Music 🎵🎵
There is one other person who doesn't get the credit he deserves for this song, composer Lee Holdridge. His catchy, memorable and soulful melody is as much the backbone of this song as is Al's lyrics and vocals. Thank you Lee for your wonderful music.
@Akim Smith No I'm not! Al rightfully deserved the credit he got for the song and its success. I noticed in reviews that no one even mentioned Lee's contribution to the theme. I just wanted to acknowledge that important contribution. It was never my intention to diminish any credit from Al at all.
I'd love a Moonlighting movie. The show was great in his prime. The last seasons were a bit "much" but the chemistry between Bruce and Cybill was always great.
A local TV station used to run a replay of the Moonlighting episode for the week at noon on Tuesday. About 10 of us from work would meet at one guy's apartment to watch it together every week. Ahhh... the good ol' days past. Miss 'em.
The music industry as a whole suffered a serious loss when this man passed.. What a talent...
I didn't know he was gone🥺🥺🥺
Oh man...we all lost...and like most people didn't know he passed...they never knew his greatness either...but they will eventually...."after all"
I seriously agree. We lost a lot of musical talent this century. RIP 🕊🕊🙏🏽🙏🏽🕊🕊🎶🎶
Les années 80 Bruce Willis et Sybille Sheppard et cette musique magnifique d'Al Jarreau...sublime ❤❤😍😭
I totally agree
He was God rest his sweet soul. Under appreciated ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I had the pleasure of seeing him at The Old garden state art center in Jersey and Nioka theater in NYC
My heart aches at waxing such nostalgia. I really miss this time in my life. It made more sense back then than today.
That heart ache wow I get that internal twinge too when I hear this , and it’s an era thing I think as I didn’t watch this avidly , I was about 11 in this heyday but even then the credits just struck with me on moonlighting
The whole 1980's gone thing makes me want to cry.
@@charlesedwards4160 To be honest, there's parts of the '80s I can do without but the best of 83-89, well I do miss that.
Most definitely miss this era back before I had the internet in my home. The sound of this brings the good memories to surface it is cool and Al sang it perfectly.
I agree with you
An amazing and uniquely talented guy. I used to watch "Moonlighting" every week just to hear him sing the theme song. I bet others did, too! His music was about the pure joy of life.
The 80's somewhat define the height of Americas greatness, things got a little darker in the 90s. 9-11 changed everything
Yes very true,! I did too. And I was a teenager back then I'm now in my 50s
It's really cool to connect with our favorite music, here on UA-cam.
Awesome show here
Awesome show here
When I was 6 or 7, I would stay up at night until 10PM on a school night only to hear Al Jarreau sing this great song.
REST IN PEACE, heaven is now blessed with your voice.
WAIT wait now I am just asking this isn't about AL who is great but is He Resting in Peace ? Or in HEAVEN?

Hang on my brother you ain't seen nothing yet.
waxing nostalgic, aren't we? i tell u, the LED-lit life we lead today can be just as magical as it was in the bygones of sodium-lamps - but if all memory was extinguished, and the times were to be measured by their music, then i'd have the same opinion as u - almost nothing past the 80s had this kind of feel - pure magic
Sorry for your loss, man.
Good statement that reflects our lives motivated with love and peace
The scatting at the end does it for me too...I feel cheated when i hear the shorter version.
Ever hear the other version with the harmonica instead of the saxaphone, both wind instruments are equally fantastic in sound for this song!!!!!
This is a stress killer
My childhood was filled with watching this show with my mama!
Mr. Jaurreau is one of greatest jazz singers of all time. I had the experience of working with him in Chicago in 2003 when he performed at the Field Museum for hundreds of kids. A CD he made for children. One of the greatest moments of my life. Thank you Al.

Love what they added to this extended version, so nice.
The 80's...there's nothing you can compare it to. Life was beautiful and exciting everyday. We had things that crept in if course, but as a whole? NOTHING AND I MEAN NOTHING WILL EVER compare to the 80's. Gosh I miss those years.

He had a period where everything he did was just awesome will always be one of my favorites. We're in this love together!

I don't ever want to listen to this again. It fills me with an extreme sadness and emptiness of what this world has now become and what we lost !!
I can relate. It's a tremendous change. My heart used to fill up seeing these credits, it's so different now.
This song always does something to me. A good something.
