I’ll add to all the other LASIK, comments. Got it done when I was around 35 years old, I’m almost 50 and still don’t need glasses for distance. One of the best things I’ve ever done. Glasses were a pain and I had contacts for quite a few years but my eyes slowly started to reject them and the irritation was bad enough that I couldn’t wear them anymore. As long as your eyes are compatible with the procedure, you’ll never look back.👍🏼
Syd, I had lasik 25 years ago as an early adopter at 35 years old. Still don't need glasses. Zero regrets whatsoever and it's truly been a blessing! Ride on!
I got Lasik 15 years ago to correct an astigmatism. My eyesight is still perfect. Go for it Syd. It'll be the best money you've ever spent. Not having to rely on glasses and contacts, priceless..
Syd, get the lasik!!! I got it more than 15 years ago and my eyes are going strong! I did it because i was so tired of having crap get in my eyes and having to take out my contacts on nearly every single ride. ZERO regrets.
Syd! Lasik is a decision you will not regret! Dec of 2017 for me and I have not had 1 problem! You will gain a million times of confidence if you just do the consult
-8.50 contacts until I had lasik done. My vision started to worsen after 15 years but I can still do everything without contacts or glasses except for driving at night.
I've ridden in Madeira, it's amazing, a bit of a hidden gem. A guide can show you the best routes and food... Also a lovely place to visit for a holiday.
Syd, I am short sighted I don't know if there is an equivalent in the US but there is a company called eyedream who creates lenses you can sleep in over night and it corrects your vission, lasts about 36-40 hrs. No need to worry about dry eyes, contacts falling out or going in water during the day! Hope that maybe of some use. Love the videos both and looking forward to watching the content from this bucket list event.

Oh man, if there's been one episode i've been waiting the whole year, it's this!
Lasix seems like certainly a better option than contacts. But why either? Why not just have prescription glasses? You can get anti-fog and lens that darken in brighter sun. Those are the best.
Did not have lasik but the “smile” procedure, the newer version without a flap, about half a year ago. I was very sceptical as well, but it’s really not a big deal at all! Incredibly fast and painless. Highly recommend! My eye surgeon even said, that the risks of this procedure are lower than the risks associated with using contact lenses…
I had Lasik done way back in 1997. I could not see the Big E on the chart, and went to seeing almost 20/20, but not quite. I was almost 40 then and I do use glasses for distant vision now, but at least these glasses have thin lenses and not coke bottle bottoms. Recuperation was fast. I had it done on Friday, and was playing pool for money on Sunday. Can't recommend it enough, I've had almost no issues, other than OCCASIONAL minor dry eyes and I seldom even need eye drops.
11:44 Oh that’s funny where an enduro racer is afraid of looking down a mountain. Hahaha… Just kidding, but funny still. Great content and vid as always! Thanks!
Of all the enduro videos of you two I have watched this one made by butt pucker. That terrain was scary AF! You two are phenomenal and have my utmost respect and admiration.
Syd- I got LASIK 16 years ago when I was 32 years old. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I went from contacts with a 5.25 or -5.25 prescription which is pretty blind to 20/15 vision with no issues and that is still going strong after all these years. I would highly recommend. I also man bike, run ultras, and play other sports and camp on occasion and not having to worry about contacts has been awesome. Great video as always, can’t wait for the next one!
Syd - Get the LASIK! I got my eyes done way back in 2004 at Stanford Medical The “surgery” takes literally 5 minutes and is painless. The recovery takes a couple weeks and you can’t rub your eyes (patches at night). I had 20/20 vision until ~2018. With my age (I’m 59 now), I have succumbed to wearing reading/computer glasses but otherwise I live glass/contact free!
Awesome video (as always) and fantastic riding from you both looking forward to the series. Highlight = Macky turning positively English saying "Cheers Mate" to fellow rider after a pass LOL
Olá, bom dia! Glad Macky is okay. Full face is the go-to in Madeira, especially if you're blind run racing. Syd killed it! Glad you two got a chance to experience Madeira
Awesome start to Madeira you two!!! Looks brutal though! Syd, I'm 50 now but got Lasik in 2005. Got both eyes done at once and have enjoyed 19/20 vision until recently due to age (haha). I grew up with teriiible nearsightedness. I wore glasses and used contacts since grade school. Easy procedure back then...maybe 20 minutes, my husband even got to watch from outside the room. Sent home to sleep for 24hr(with a med) and then the next day was active again. At the time I was a surfer and had to refrain from getting in the water for a month but that was it. easy easy easy. Best 5k I ever spent. & I would bet the tech today is 1000x better then '05. Great job in Madeira and look forward to seeing the next several days to come.
best thing me and my wife ever did was get lasik. (besides the obligatory having our kids and all that. lol) Seriously I would recommend it easily to anyone, especially if you find yourself having to put on contacts in a tent on the beach often!
Got laser eye surgery in the beginning of 2020 and it was one of the best things I've ever done for myself. Before surgery I could see maybe 4-6 inches clearly, afterward I've been consistent 20/20 vision. Worth a lot to me as I do a lot of "adventuring" solo and losing glasses or contacts was a constant worry because I was almost functionally blind without them. If you want a full review of my experience ask away. My experience was a bit different as I had to get PRK instead of Lasik but in the end the results have been worth it.
Nothing to worry about with Lysic (sp). I had it about 15 years ago. I am sure a lot has changed but only issue is I need to use readers now which was expected. Still have 20 20 for distance. Very safe.
Cool video. I've done this race a few times now and absolutely love it, yet it still scares me watching the videos 😂. Also, ooooh, that was a nasty place to crash!
Love lasik and would do it again even WITH the issue I’ve had. Slight astigmatism, and when I would wear contacts certain color LED lights (mostly blues) would be blurry. Never happened with glasses. Now that’s permanent 😂. Still, my only regret is not doing it sooner.
OMG You two are crazy brave wholly cow! The views were incredible and the chicken guy was too funny lol. I know I would have fell apart when your bikes got lost but your experience in adventure riding got them back. Great stuff can't wait for the next one. :) :)
I had Lasik when I was 29 (now 40). Didn't need glasses growing up, my eyesight just slowly worsened in my 20's requiring a mild prescription. I opted for Lasik as I was racing BMX at the time and with two young kids, I grew tired of the hassles of glasses (both racing and my kids grabby fingers). Probably 5 years following the procedure my eyesight started to regress somewhat, though I didn't require glasses. However, the past year or so my eyesight has gotten to the point I really need to get them checked as I likely need glasses again. This is likely the result of me just being 10 years older now and the fact that I stare at a monitor all day for work. I don't intend to try to get a second procedure, but if I were to go back in time I wouldn't hesitate to make the same decision to have Lasik. An alternative to consider to contacts would be prescription lenses for your goggles and bike glasses. I'll likely go this route for my mountain biking if I stop procrastinating on getting my eyes checked.
I just got LASIK this year! It is awesome! Absolutely worth it. But....definitely talk to a few different LASIK surgeons and get input from your typical eye doc - just to be sure.
Lasik is very routine now, Syd. Just find a good doc who does many. The machine does most of it now. Had it done in 2000. Just recently had one eye touched up due to age
Been waiting for this series to start. Caught a few glimpses of you both on Scotty Laughlands Vlog during the week. Looked like a very tough type 2 fun week for all who participated. I hope Macky got that bump on the head checked out properly after he finished? That was a hard fall on some nasty boulders.
Super cool to watch, thinking about doing it in ´24-´25....i would love to see some indepth on your equipment, especialy suspension, tires and brakes, and thourghts on your choices...Regards from Denmark...
Can't wait for Day 2? Watch it early on Patreon: www.patreon.com/sydandmacky
My 92 year old mom just said, “I would’ve loved to do that!”. She also really enjoyed the kitty cat.
I’ll add to all the other LASIK, comments.

Me too! Must be about 15 years ago now, when I was around 35ish as well. Still don’t need glasses for distance. 😊
Me as well. Same excellent experience. I drove up to Montreal to have it done.
I’m around 5 years. My only regret is waiting.
Same here. 12 years now (just had my dominant eye done)
15ish years ago and the best thing I ever did!
I got Lasik in 2017 because I hated the contact struggle when I was travelling. Best decision ever!
between the prepping, the packing and the traveling. and then sleeping in those conditions, and THEN racing...this is FOR SURE A YOUNG MANS game.
To say I’m jealous would be the world’s biggest understatement.
I got Lasik 15 years ago to correct an astigmatism. My eyesight is still perfect. Go for it Syd. It'll be the best money you've ever spent. Not having to rely on glasses and contacts, priceless..

Syd is killing it! Madeira is a magical place. Steep, but magical. The food is world class, and the people are wonderful.
Syd - I had Lasik 16 years ago and had a GREAT experience. Still no contacts or glasses needed. Love your channel!
My buddy and my mother (76) have both gotten lasik and wouldn't trade it for the world, said they'd wish they'd done it sooner. Be brave!
Love the bit where Macky turns Brittish for a second at 24:04 “cheers mate” 😂
Was about to post the same thing!! 😂
LOL. must have been the concussion talking.
I thought I'd have to scroll to find this comment!
Had lasik about 12 years ago and it made me a lot faster as a rider. My eyesight wasn't that bad before but all of a sudden I could see everything!
Glad you're (mostly) ok Macky. Its amazing how hard you send it after falls, way to be awesome 🎉
Syd! Lasik is a decision you will not regret! Dec of 2017 for me and I have not had 1 problem! You will gain a million times of confidence if you just do the consult

Had Lasic 20 years ago, it's like being cured. You will still need reading glasses when you hit your 40's. Very happy with Lasic personally.
I’ve had lasik, it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
24:01 cheers mate 🤓

WHoop WhooP you have hit 100k!! Should be a million because your videos are brilliant!
100% recommend no-touch laser eye and super happy with all aspects of it.
7:00 I got lasik years ago and I'm "watching" this video.
😛
11:44 Oh that’s funny where an enduro racer is afraid of looking down a mountain. Hahaha… Just kidding, but funny still. Great content and vid as always! Thanks!
My God!
What Amazing trails & scenery !!
1:07 Can I joke about the tent next door with an armful of license plates)
That run into town with the stairs at the end is just 🤪
Great riding! Congrats Syd, that is a fine result!!
Bigs ups to Sid who really grew into that tough day's racing!
Had Lasik 10 years ago, would do it again in a heartbeat. Go for it Syd!
Of all the enduro videos of you two I have watched this one made by butt pucker. That terrain was scary AF! You two are phenomenal and have my utmost respect and admiration.
Spring for Lasik. Dr. Coleman in ABQ is great. I did it in 2015. Free touchups for life, if need be. I haven't needed one yet
Syd- I got LASIK 16 years ago when I was 32 years old. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Lysik. Best thing I did. 10 years of no fuss mountain biking.

This is pretty my exact story too. 100% recommend.
WOW! Incredible scenery, and lots of challenges for the two of you! I can't wait until next week, thanks for sharing!!
perfect end. so glad Syd mentioned the visor. good luck to cueball the rest of the way!
I got lasik earlier this year and it’s amazing!! You won’t regret it.
Very jealous as it reminds me of Grand .canaria which I loved. The crash looked nasty so was a great result to avoid a bigger injury
Glad you are okay Macky, gnarly looking crash.
Welcome to Portugal!!!
I've had Lasik, love the results. Best decision ever! Your videos are awesome! You desents are insanely fast! Thanks for your videos!
How cool, i watch you from Portugal for a few months now! what a surprise when i see you racing in Portugal! well done!
Nice one guys!! The scenery is incredible. Local chickens are pretty cool too! Way to go Syd!
Had lasik done over 20 years ago - haven't gone blind, but I need an adjustment done soon lol
What a spectacularly scenic race. This has been a bucketlist item for a while. Someday.
Awesome race. And congrats on the 100k subscribers!
This looks like soooo much fun! The sweaty fog reminds me of summer mornings rides in Charleston, South Carolina.
Fun race to watch. Beautiful views. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the stages.
Awesome video (as always) and fantastic riding from you both looking forward to the series. Highlight = Macky turning positively English saying "Cheers Mate" to fellow rider after a pass LOL
As a fellow mountain biker I find yalls videos very incurring. Thanks a keep up the good work. BTW your channel icon is soo cute😂
Olá, bom dia! Glad Macky is okay. Full face is the go-to in Madeira, especially if you're blind run racing. Syd killed it! Glad you two got a chance to experience Madeira

Get the lasik!! Worked great for me!
Just awesome riding Syd 🤘
Good job. I've been looking forward to this for months! It's so fun following along with you two
I'm so excited to see your take on this epic adventure!

Agreed, LASIK is super worth it. Did it years ago and it's a bit of a minor life changer.
Damn...these trails look incredible!!
Thanks!
Thanks for the support!
Have gotten LASIK, did not go blind. 10/10 recommend.
Thanks!
Thank you for the support!

Stunning views of this place!👍 worth to pay a visit.😎 I'm sure you enjoyed it very much beside the race...😄👍
Welcome to Madeira ! 🔥
I once commented on earlier video that the Black Rated trail in that video did not look difficult. These trails here looked very difficult.
Wow and thanks for all the hard work you do to let us see the hard work / fun.
Super pumped for this series
Me and both my parents have had lasik, best decision ive ever made
Cool video. I've done this race a few times now and absolutely love it, yet it still scares me watching the videos 😂.
Also, ooooh, that was a nasty place to crash!
The bad luck gremlins are hard to keep at bay, it’s how you keep moving forward it the key . Well done to the both of you on day one ☝️ 😊

Get LASIK. I've been happy with my near / far selection for a nearsighted person. No problem riding mtn bikes on tech terrain.
One trip through London, an OTB and Macky's a Brit...! cheers, and cheers mate had me laughing pretty hard.. crack on..

Holy hell what a gorgeous locale

Yes, all good and no concussion symptoms. He mostly caught the fall with his wrists/elbow 🥴
Great vid looks like a great place to ride and an amazing race. Curious if the two of you have ever given thought to racing the Silk Road?
Congratulations 🎉 on your 1st day!
Super cool to watch, thinking about doing it in ´24-´25....i would love to see some indepth on your equipment, especialy suspension, tires and brakes, and thourghts on your choices...Regards from Denmark...
Great vid 👍, love Madeira Freeride do a great job with the trails 🤙
This looks fun
That OTB was pretty scary Macky. I'm glad you are ok my friend.
Glad you are doing ok Macky after hitting your head . You guys are amazing!
Great good job the both of you prayers for you both
That chicken at the finish line.
Geeze nice work guys!
