One of my favorite experiments to do to this day. 15 years ago was when I learned how bright graphite burns with some power in between it (and also how it explodes with too much). The smell of pencil graphite in particular brings back fond memories!
Fab experiment... This is the basis of the carbon arc lamp, once used in old cinema projectors.. I managed to buy a few carbon rods which where made especial for arc lamps. They are about a foot long and copper plated. Great vid... Ps love your new control panel.
Variac Maniac I can imagine.. I keep putting of building one due to all the metal cutting.. I have no idea how to cut square holes in metal to fit panel meters... Oh where did you get your parcel meters from? They look rather expensive and industrial.. Let me know what they may be called so I can search for suppliers. Any tips on cutting hols in metal to accommodate meters will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Charles UK.
The meters I scored from eBay for a total of $85 (which is around 60 British Pounds I'm guessing), they are made by General Electric and these are indeed hard to find. So I was very lucky to score them.
Variac Maniac thanks.. I will keep searching Ebay, these meters do seem very rare indeed yer they are without doubt the best for electrical panels. I look forward to seeing more exciting videos. Stay safe
I am currently away from the HV toys for a month or so, however, I do have videos to upload that I made before I went away, so, I'll possibly upload some stuff, maybe even tonight!!
Have mommy and daddy grounded you for being naughty? Lol... okay mate fair enough. Take care I’ll look forward to the next upload. Don’t go and do a photon on us here!
@@VariacManiac Maybe yes, I could cut metal with the graphite from a pencil. It whas about 2mm thicc and the power supply whas 18vac (under load) and idk something like 15-20A.
@@VariacManiac Thank you for the tips. I did that some time ago (maybe I will do it again with bigger electrodes and more power) and I think, that with graphite you can only cut. I could never weld with it, it did just cut.

It seems to give off a rather funky smell, hope you didn't try it with the lead filled pencils.
I like how the wood just evaporated away!
Yeah, it's almost like magic.

Thanks! Took a lot of time to build!

No squares had to be cut as their chassis are round, the square front end is for it to be paneled and bolted.

fun stuff! homemade arc lamps are great! so simple too.
Enough light to blind as well, it's light is very intense even at 12A 240V or 3kW.
When’s the next vid mate? I hope my merica friend is not cooked... 😮😖

I don't plan to;)
Welding with a pencil
Could definitely have the capabilities of bonding metal together.

@@firefox1136 I say give it a shot, if it doesn't work, I'd say use a bit more juice, or if it's too flimsy, use a thicker piece of carbon.

Nice arking going on
Open circuit yet closed by an arc, when electricity is actually visible because you know lots of people say you can't see electricity.
