I'm so sad but so excited that you guys are almost done with this show!! I can't contain my hype so I want you guys to know that season 6 as a whole is one of my favorite endings to a series ever. This whole thing is one of the smartest, most sophisticated shows I've had the pleasure of watching, and I'm so glad you guys gave this a shot and that you have such great discussions after! ❤️
We are definitely feeling the sadness and dread of almost finishing up. We really enjoy this show and the way they show us how complicated this running a family while being spies can get!
Tuan reminds me of Todd from Breaking Bad in the way he deals with these situations. The difference is that for him it seems more about being indoctrinated than being a sociopath or some other mental heath issue.
Wow, the Tuan hate! He is one of the only survivors of his family being killed by American war criminals...of course he's a psychopath. It doesn't make him okay, but it definitely makes him sad. Right now he feels that he only has viciousness and anger left in him.
Is he though? How is this any worse than any number of things philip and elizabeth have done? Honestly, i'm kind of surprised at people's reaction. like, any shred of morality in any of these people pretty much disappeared a long time ago, Tuan is just doing his job. The only reason that Phil and Elizabeth got pissed is because they had just decided that Pasha couldn't be pushed enough. But if that werent the case, i doubt they would have a problem with Tuan's plan, because actually, the plan does make sense.
Yeah, we agree he is the worst lol though Philip and Elizabeth have also done horrible shit. They’ve gone far enough to actually start feeling things now though and Tuan is nowhere near that level.
It's a bit beside the subject: I know you guys don't really like religion (and that's ok), but I hope you don't take what you watched with pastor Tim as a confirmation of your views. Church is a flawed system, as any institution is, but religion should be viewed apart from that. And until Tim meddled, it really helped Page in a hard time. What do you think? And I think Paige's faith was spoiled by Tim and maybe she just thought that the religion didn't fit to the identity of a child of KGB agents anymore aswell.
Oh yeah, we definitely have our biases on religion due to personal experiences growing up but we can 100% see why it can be really helpful for some people. Paige definitely gained a lot from it on the show and we think it helped her grow as a person and it also helped her understanding on a lot of things!
This is my first time really rewatching this show, and its actually pretty jarring how much the show dropped off in season 5. I didn't want to say so before now in case it would ruin your expectations. But I feel like season 3 and 4 was absolutely amazing, and season 5 sorta took a step back, almost like they weren't really sure what to do with the show or the characters. We barely see people like Pastor Tim, Aderholt, Kimmy etc in season 5, i dont know why. Nina is gone now. Martha is gone now. Gad is gone now. We don't really see Arkady this season either. I feel like the whole season is very slow paced and dialogue heavy, and not many interesting or important things happen compared to earlier seasons. I feel like they tried to replace some of those other characters and plotlines with Oleg's plot in season 5, but it just doesn't grab me in the same way because it's completely disconnected from everything else we're watching and invested in. It's like Oleg has his own spin-off show here. But let me just say this, season 6 could easily be the best season of this entire show. They really went all out for it, which makes season 5 more acceptable for me, it's almost like filler between season 4 and 6 imo.
I think the different storylines in season 5 are a little jarring but I think it sets up season 6 really well. And totally agree season 6 is amazing. I loved Oleg's relationship with his dad, though!
I was fortune to start watching after the series wrapped up. So I know going in Season 5 would be slower. Frankly I though Season 2 was a little too focused on the dangers of spying to the diminishment of the family dynamics. Season 5 kind of has the opposite problem. There's not that much excitement, but their are some very interesting parallels in the different kind of family histories and how they're shaped by world events. I wasn't surprised the penultimate episode ends on a cliffhanger since they had to up the tension in the season final somehow. Which serves a great set up for the final season.
It was definitely a slower season when it came to the main storyline. The whole Oleg thing seemed somewhat pointless but we do enjoy seeing him with his family. We hear season 6 is great so can’t wait to see how they wrap this up!
Elizabeth is now fully committed to Philip by taking his name and being on the same page regarding Tuan.
It’s so great to see them on the same page. They’re unstoppable!

Yeah, we can see that connection! Tuan for some reason to us definitely gives off sociopath vibes though

Yeah, so, Tuan’s the worst…
True. I wonder how much is indoctrination and how much is his character...

@@MattMajcan Me thinking that Tuan's way of doing things is bad doesn't rule out that I think Philip and Elizabeth are ruthless as well.

@@chrisvienneau3402 yeah i agree, it is kind of nice seeing Oleg in his family dynamic after building up his dad for quite awhile
