- Rifat Jawaid, former BBC Editor, asks the corporation bosses why they are hell bent on promoting Nigel Farage even if it means giving him an undue coverage to him in the ongoing election campaign. Workers Party chief George Galloway too thinks that a section of media in the UK is promoting Farage.
The BBC need defunding the licence fee needs to be removed.

I agree with all that you say, however, I shall offer a counterpoint to the valid points you've made about how British politics and media are rigged, drawn from my analysis of what happened in the recent elections in Mexico. I know that the UK and Mexico are very different countries, but there are some commonalities. If anything, the nexus between corporate media and corporate politics in Mexico is even stronger than here. The recent landslide victory of the Morena party candidate Claudia Scheinbaum happened despite all of that. It was an out-and-out rejection of the corrupt neo-liberalism that has rotted the economy and impoverished the people of Mexico. Ultimately, people here will reject those policies here too, albeit not in the 2024 election unfortunately.

The news presenter was using extremely politically opinionated and biased language to describe Farage’s speech. The BBC is supposed to be impartial. They had no choice but to get the journalist to apologise. I’m surprised she’s still got a job. As a politician Farage is allowed his bias , but although the BBC is intrinsically and systematically biased towards an establishment, bourgeois kind of liberalism, as a publicly funded institution they are not allowed to express this. I don’t agree with much of what Farage says but as a fairly successful and popular political outlier ,he has a right to be heard. No one has the right to shut down the voice of dissent. That is where the real trouble lies.

I find it rather strange that he talks about the BBC being funded by public money, yet doesn't seem to realize that those who will vote for Reform are members of the public who also pay the licence fee. The only reason the BBC pays such attention to Nigel Farage and the BBC is because they do it on the basis of wanting to discredit him, not promote him as he seems to think. Perhaps he should ask himself why a publicity funded corporation such has the BBC is doing this, when it supposedly has an impartiality clause that prevents them (supposedly) from taking sides in issues such as politics, etc. If Reform is such a small party as he infers, then why is he so bothered about it? The hypocrisy of such people is breathtaking. If the Greens - another small party - were being interviewed by the BBC on the same scale as he thinks Farage is, would that bother him at all?
