Dante Exum Has Revived His NBA Career

After being out of the NBA for the past 2 seasons, Dante Exum, the former 5th pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, signed a contract with the Dallas Mavericks this offseason and he’s playing the best basketball of his entire career. He’s been playing significant minutes lately due to injury, and he just put up a 26 point per game performance against the Lakers in which he shot 7-9 from 3. Overall this season, Dante has put up 7 points per game on 53% from the field and 40% from 3 along with 2.4 assists per game and 2.8 rebounds per game, all while playing phenomenal defense which has always been his strong suit. In todays episode of MTS Mike Talks Sports, I dive into the incredible season Dante is having with the Mavericks, diving deep into the analytical numbers (all analytics from this video were compiled from the Dallas Mavericks Official UA-cam channel and from Andy Hoops video on Dante Exum so shout out to the sources) as well as the eye test and the technical skill set reasons to why Dante has been so good this season, along with how we got to this point and why did Dante Exum fail and fall out of the league after his first NBA stint in Utah for the Jazz? Dante was the youngest player in Australian national team history at just 15 years old, and was a stand out player in the FIBA basketball World Cup tournament for Australia in the under 17 and under 19 tournaments, making the all tourney teams during both stints. This was a big reason to why Dante was selected so high in the NBA draft, garnering comparisons to Penny Hardaway. In my opinion, Dante failed for two reasons: injuries and playing out of position, as he was a shooting guard most of his pre NBA life. Today though, he’s revived his NBA career and is just starting to reach his prime.
