The fact that you cannot find anyone with skin that matches says everything about how little effort they put into developing it
the fact that they mixed just pure black pigment and went “ahh yes this is perfect” is so insane to me!!
Look up: Nyakim Gatwech. This is legit HER SKIN TONE. SO NOT IT'S NOT RACIST PEOPLE LIKE THAT ACTUALLY EXIST.
@@pinkfeet518it’s not exactly pure black but it’s close. It’s the fact they used a pigment they know is used for black mascara and eyeshadows that aren’t natural skin colors.
@@abrown507it’s only ingredients is black iron oxide
@@abrown507 i meant it like they only used black pigment without any other tones if that makes sense. i worded it weird. for mascaras and eyeliners that makes complete sense!
As an artist who regularly paints all skin tones:
This was deliberate.
I agree. They wanted a big reaction and to get their brand into the public consciousness. And unfortunately it's working, everyone is talking about it.
why does everyone get mad that there are no "inclusive" tones for makeup, and when the brands actually make darker colors, due to high demand for "inclusivity", everyone freaks out because NOW it's racist. and when they cater to people's wants and actually listen, making darker shades, NOW they're racist! WHAT IS WRONG WITH SOCIETY!!!???
Completely agree. The rule of thumb of painting is that you NEVER use black pigment to make black for a painting, because natural colours don't work like that, much less skin tones. So yeah, this is pretty much blackface.
@@JosephineAdkins because it isn't inclusive to make a foundation that doesn't fit anybody, if the color doesn't match anyone, it's not inclusive to make black "foundation"
@@JosephineAdkins because they're not "catering to people's wants" they're deliberately being lazy and offensive. EVERYONE knows that NO skin is plain black or plain white. all skin has undertones. they're just being lazy and maybe even maliciously complying.
It just needs undertones. That’s the issue. They just did a black color. People even tried lightening it and showed it just became a murky gray.
Using undertones with that wouldn’t have made a difference because even the darkest person on earth isn’t that dark. The deepest skin tones are still a version of brown.
That's unfortunate I was hoping that it could at least be used as a tint to make custom shades.
@@bradleyl00 there are a few people that dark actually except unlike this foundation, they have undertones. you are right tho, its still versions of brown. but that's the issue with this foundation. there are no brown undertones. it's just black.
It has it already it’s a blue undertone
@@leebliss3622 it turns gray when lightened. it's no actual undertone in terms of what people are looking for in foundation.
I'm not black. I am so frickin pale that I had to use concealers as foundation for a good while, though, and this feels a lot like when that one "friend" hyped me up that she found a foundation that matched me, got me really excited, then handed me a tub of clown white face paint. We didn't stay friends after that, and this company should not be trusted after this.
Excellent example of how little these people actually tried.
What your friend did, was horrible, and I’m pretty sure that it was made as a cruel joke. But I think, that this industry is just trying their best. Maybe, with a bit undertone, this might work out.
Lmao with all the money, power and knowledge, this is their best? No understanding of color theory? I wouldn't trust them with my face
Racism still at its best.
okay.. that friend was CRUEL.
That isn't a back handed compliment it's a straight up insult.
I know, how dare they be considerate of people with extremely dark skin 😂
How?
@emma_luce_0623 you're deliberately missing the point. Human skin is not pure black. Periods. You're being insulting now by implying it.
@Blablable23 if you need it explained to you after watching the video then your ignorance cannot be overcome.
@@emma_luce_0623 No one has skin that is pure black. If you look at the pigments on the ingredient list on the back, the only pigment ingredient is just black pigment.
Melanin, which determines how light or dark our skin is, appears in different shades of brown, it is never black.
They literally could have added the tiniest bit of red or orange or yellow to make it look like a real skin color but they didn’t- it was deliberate
I mean not really. You never use black pigment when trying to create a skin tone, no matter how dark. It just makes it looks grey and muddy
@wolvie1618 almost every dark foundation will have black pigment in it, the issue is just the lack of balance with other undertones. like all of the darkest fenty shades have the same pigment as the youthforia one the difference is that it has other tones there to balance
or blue
Actually that’s not how that would work. Because the original base of it wasn’t mixed with several different colors, mixing a color into the pure black wouldn’t be the same as making the shade with different undertones. Yes it would slightly change the color of the shade but it would mix out to be more of a grey toned shade because of the base being all pure black. That’s the same reason why painters mix their blacks the majority of the time instead of using blacks straight from paint tubes.
@@wolvie1618yasssss. I literally just told them the same thing!!!
Even in art classes I was taught about all the undertone colors in a person’s face for portraits. This company can’t be denying all fault on a product that makes black face and that’s it. This isn’t a concealer if it can’t do the most basic job of the product’s sole purpose.
That's the part that blows my mind. What makeup company in their right mind would want to even make a whisper of being within a twenty foot pole of being in the same room as the risk of making a black face product?? Like holy shit no!!
@@alice88walike, you know not one person in that corporation had one braincell at all. They made pitch black face paint. Pitch black face paint. Like what? And I feel like that needs to be said twice to drive in the pure absurdity of it. Cause was NOONE researching or matching skin tones? Or did they just give up and say eff it and give us THIS?
Soooo......it's literally blackface makeup. And people are ok with that?
Its definitely a purposeful thing. If you have so many beige tones you know that undertones exist and not to but black to make them darker or itll desaturate them and make then darker without adressing actauk undertones. It was absolutely purposeful

The fact that they targeted POC to use it as foundation was probably the biggest miss. They could've targeted goths or MUAs that need something more than face paint, but they probably wanted to go for a viral moment rather than put careful thought into who this product is actually for.
Yeah, as a goth i would use it. It just looks like black paint
yeah it should have been a contour shade for goths and other alt makeup styles
Yeah, I could also see someone with darker skin using it as a countour shade when mixed with a normal foundation since the grey undertones would mimic shadow, but they're seemingly trying as hard as possible to just- snipe the products usefulness by insisting its a normal foundation for the viral points
Seriously! I know sunset cosmetics has a pure black concealer but it’s specifically targeted to goths and other non natural makeup looks
@@alytyler219 I think they have a foundation too if memory serves, but still targeted at unnatural/ artistic looks and never gave the impression they think that's what human skin looks like
We must listen to POC and how they feel about this. As for the brand itself, I am not convinced they are listening.
no one forced them to but that. when Fenty and Nars exist, there is no need for whining over this
@@lilmamagcthen youthforia should've stuck to a lighter shade range instead of competing with fenty. Losing battle tbh

I don't think it's intended to be used as it is, rather to add it to other tones. Seems obvious
@@user-mm6tb9mb7nthen it's not a fucking foundation . A foundation can be worn alone. This can't even be worn with another product as its just gonna make it grey
It was marketed as foundation. Not a mixer.
Right
@@user-mm6tb9mb7n It's written on the label. It's a FOUNDATION
i'm not black, so i can't say much, but as an outsider, i just cannot believe how this could be an innocent mistake, literally everyone has a basic understanding of undertones, no skin is just plain white or plain black, everyone should know that😭 especially a make up brand 😭🙏
Exactly. I saw an albino girl doing a review for a really light tinted product and that wasn’t even fully white. It still had some undertones.
@@clarahensley3106 yeah, i'm the lightest shade of foundation in most brands, and it's kind of difficult to find shade matches for me sometimes, but if i found a brand that was just a pure white color, omg, that'd make me laugh my ass off
Agreed. The only makeup brand I know that doesn't have undertones in their foundation, does fantasy colors(red, yellow, blue).
I'm sure quite a few people were fired for this misstep!
Well I don't think it was made for just as usual foundation but for costumes or unique make up looks etc. As a goth I would def use it as I use a lot of black and white foundation (I'm allergic to some face paints and foundation is just a lot skin friendlier)
remember people, its not the shade that's the problem, it's the fact that it's literally just black with no undertones
I am frustrated that makeup brands continue to struggle with getting all shades of skin tone from all ranges. People have different reasons to wear makeup, from societal pressure to personal preferences, and people of any skin tone should be able to find a shade of foundation that matches them best. I hope the company recalls this product and tries to do better next time.
The darkest skin tone I seen had a Purple tinge to it, looked phucking amazing.
Yh they purple
Yea or blue too !!
The darkest skintone I personally seen had this navy blue glow to it, truly otherworldly & breathtaking
The contrast is always so pretty
As you see on my pfp, big fan of purple XD
They were trying to take a shortcut to virality by making like the darkest foundation ever but their shortcut was just super racist. This is giving "minstrel show", not "we care about our deep-skinned customers".
That's what I've been thinking. There's just no way this was a mistake, these are well-educated people and no other shade lacks undertones. There is NO excuse for this.
If they had a bunch of shades LEADING to black, it wouldn't look so bad. No way a team that creates multiple shades of foundation just happened to forget about undertones or about the multiple shades between the 2 darkest shades
I don't think. It's more on being inclusive.
Not really, is just a slap on the wrist.
You wanna be inclusive, than try for real, Rihanna is black, but when she came with her foundation line, she thought about all range of people. From the lightest and the darkest.
You Youphoria wasn't trying to be inclusive, before apologized they were also finding excuse. Just say, look, we actually don't know how to deal with a different tipe of skin, but we're going to study harder.
Plus they are Asian, so I'm not really shock that they don't care about black and brown skin.
@@DonoZeek
Google racism.
Imao when a company is planning a launch it doesn’t just take a week or two. If they wanted black women to wear their products they would’ve included the option when they were planning everything else.
As a mix in shade I don’t mind it, if you need to darken a shade to make it match perfectly.
Yeah i thought so too that that could be useful for some people who cannot find a dark enough shade of brown for them
But they aren't marketing it as a mix-in shade are they? They are marketing it as a full on foundation. There is no one who can wear this "shade" of foundation.
Uhm no, people mixed it with a lot of lighter foundation and it just turned grey. Even shades used for mixing should have more than one pigment.
I feel like they heard people saying that they don’t have dark enough shades so they just said “well black is as dark as we can get so let’s just sell that” instead of actually creating something that people can actually use. UNDERTONES ARE IMPORTANT. I really hope they fix this
People can actually use this by mixing it with other foundations. It's not that hard and that's probably its purpose
@@pennywang6461 I was thinking that this could be used in that way, but it wasn't branded this way.
@@pennywang6461If you go on their website, this product isn't marketed that way. If it was, like Ariana Grande's foundation line, there would also be a white shade available.
@@pennywang6461please it’s an almost 50 dollar foundation; if your spending that much you shouldn’t have to get other foundations to mix itt with just to get a good color match. And they are a makeup company who should have put more effort into developing the product
@pennywang6461 Actually, you can't cause the foundation makes whatever you mix with grey... it unusable
The thing is anyone who's seen those "darkest woman ever" pictures can see she's not a void, and that she has purplish red undertones. If you add other colors to the pigments for other foundation, why not the darkest one?
even then that image was edited to look darker
Honestly, I first learned 'Youthforia' existed due to all this blowing up. So... great job!
There are some people in the world who are actually black but that is either rare or due to skin conditions and they probably wouldn’t be using foundation anyways
I wonder if it wasn’t a petty “fine, you keep complaining we don’t give dark enough skin tones? HERE YOU GO!”
I have a solution for you: don’t buy it.
@@TheRafark nah. Shitting on thier half-assed marketing tactic is way funner
@@Silliestbilly966 good for you then 🤷♂
i honestly think thats what it was XD
the sad thing is... people STILL complained... but now it was too dark XD
Considering what happened before the black foundation was released, highly possible that's what happened
and even if they launched it as foundation to be mixed to make your own shade, because it is only black it turns anything its mixed with grey!
Could it not be mixed with another foundation shade to darken it? Then the extra tones come from the real colour foundation, but that can be darkened 'to taste' using this, so anyone of a shade that isn't serviced can get a 'right colour but too light shade' foundation plus this and make it fit. Could be wrong, obviously not an issue I've had to handle personally (white and don't use makeup regularly), but that sounds feasible.
@@SuzanneRushI saw a video of an influencer mixing this ‘foundation’ with other shades and every single one of them turned gray or ashy. So no it can’t be mixed with anything to make it darker
They use white pigments for this same pupose (but to make it lighter)
@@konijntjeveer7075 yes it can. You can even turn black paint into a warm deep brown
All you need to do is not only mix in something with a light base but also a bright colour.
Red undertone = red, yellow undertone = yellow
Get yourself one of those elf color correctors in red, mix a brown foundation with a bit of the black and a bit of red
As an example.
Foundation is no different than paint, to get brown you mix black + orange + white
If you add more black and not more orange you'll end up with an ashy tone, you need to add orange (or red/yellow depending on the undertone)
In order to darken but avoid ashiness
That being said it feels like too much of a hassle to actually go through instead of trying to find a foundation that matches
@@Mina-rf3nwif u have to mix multiple colors to get this foundation to work then it’s clearly not a foundation dude it’s just face paint
i think they were trying to get that deep, Nigerian black. There's gotta be a handful of people that it would work on. I've seen some REAAAAALLY dark people in my day. Idk, they're right about the undertones, though. They need to add a little dab of brown pigment to it to give it some depth.
No.... Just... No. Nobodies skin is jet black like not a single human on this earth.

There’s no way they didn’t know what they were doing. They have to know color theory and shade matching to be able to formulate any makeup. Especially being in makeup, they have to know the different undertones of skin to be able to make the foundations they do. I swear this had to be deliberate, there’s no way they didn’t know what they were doing.
Marketing ploy lol. You can see how many people talk about it and buy it just to show it on video and it helps to get more people into buying it so it was kinda smart
She was talking about how her darkest shade was darker than fenty’s- hunny maybe that would be an accomplishment if it had undertones??? She was probably trying to make the darkest shade on the market
@@panpanix3315 it’s not smart because it’s literally unusable as a real foundation. It has NO undertones. If you try to make it lighter, IT TURNS GREY. Yeah people have bought it but that doesn’t mean it’s successful. It also gives a bad look to the company because how uncaring and inconsiderate they are. These are professionals, they know how to do their job so having them mess up so bad with ONE SHADE which happens to be their darkest shade looks absolutely horrible on them.
@@Piiratekang.6823 Look, It definitely can't be used as a fountain, but it can still be used in other ways, such as using it to draw all sorts of different details and creative make-ups. Why I called it a smart move is because they get a HUGE benefit from it because it attracts people to buy it and by buying this product they can buy their shade for one thing. This is advertising. Beauty bloggers advertise for it, perhaps even without realizing it. Other people watch it and want to buy it to try it or just film it. It should have been marketed as an additive or booster. Like when they do pure white. So makeup artists can mix and match the level for different clients.
You can make 6 foundations do a lot with a dark and light mixer especially if you also have green, red, blue and yellow boosters.
No you don’t really use black to mix skin tones. It wouldn’t make a nice colour foundation it would make grey if mixed with any white at all and muddy any colour that doesn’t use white.
I'm pale as a snowman, but when I paint realistic people, I would never use black. It's way too harsh and hard to mix.
When you mix it, it turn everything gray. No honey this is just black paint
Unfortunately people have tried that and it just turns gray because it has no undertones
At max this would be a contouring tool but even them a very tiny percentage of black people could actually use it. There’s not excuse to make a black cosmetic and sell it as “it will match deeper skin tones” knowing damn well that’s not the case.
It really gives me the vibe of some kids overly done something just to show the adults that they did it.
They literally just created a new skin color💯💯💯🔥🔥
At this point you could just mix charcoal with your daycream. I’m an artist and when painting dark skin you don’t just, have black paint…. Some dark skin is cool and has hints or purple an viridian red, other dark skin is warm, with an orange undertone. Same as with pale/white skin, you don’t just grab white paint… you use blue, purple, red, orange, yellow and even green with skin tones.
Personally I have different shades of foundation and mix them for different uses like bronzers and contours. I feel like it could be used to mix with other items but definitely not by itself.

I think there should be a variety of colors, including black, but they shouldn't market it for regular makeup (as in the way some people are currently testing it). A lot of people who wear alternative fashion (for example goth) use black for painting their neck so having that black as a real foundation formula works better than face paint.
I mean yeah, but that already exists. I may be wrong but I dont think they even call it foundation in this case
Thank u I was thinking of exactly this. Like a pure white or pure black foundation isn’t inherently a terrible thing but fs should have been a separate category since it’s niché and won’t be confused for a “regular” foundation

I'm white to the point that the lightest shades of foundation and concealer are sometimes too dark for me so I really was a fan of totally white concealer/foundation/face paint that I could mix with foundation to lighten it. I feel they tried to set it to the model Nyakim Gatwech’s skin tone as she is the most iconic dark toned skinned model out there. But they definitely missed the mark as I think she is even a few shades lighter of that color. They really should’ve made this into a lipstick, eyeshadow, or even eyeliner.
how about the Andamanese People. this tone actually is legit. people on the internet are morons.

No undertones told me all I needed to know.
Can't blame them for trying tho. And yes skin has different tones but it could also be used as a good base as well. I think they just need to mix it with something else or just sell it as a foundation mixer/color correcter for other foundations.
This makes me remember the white foundation from nyx that was popular some years ago - it was white white even if nobody has a skin that is white as paper. But that product was used to mix it with others foundations that didnt go in many colours. Maybe, just maybe, the same point was to creating the black foundation - so you can mix it with some other foundation that you like, bot it doesnt go in your colour. I dont think the company wanted to offens anybody, because offending groups of people its just not a good business, and companies exist to make money. Maybe the product is not the most cosidered by the company, but maybe it could be useful as the nyx white foundation was.
this feels like when your mom says "i guess i'm just a terrible mother"
They literally put black iron oxide in it and called it a day.
If you know anything about color theory, especially in cosmetics, you know that you can't add just black pigment to a tone to darken it because it will make it muddy, not deeper.
They took "many shades" to another level
Mabey is created so it can be mixed with other fundatios of the same brand. With only dark pigment you can make any other fundation darker without adding any weird undertone.
Actually, pure black is a notoriously bad color to mix with because the resulting shade will be greyish and muddy

@@emmamanning1403 actually thats the point of the comment, it really feels like a marketing trick or something though, like yk 'oh people will hate this but will buy it anyway to hate on the product' bc this stuff gets out there more easily. you know what i mean?
Or for the Trudeaus of the world 😭
Is there any chance they made the black foundation to mix into their other shades to adjust/darken them for customisation?
In terms of sales demographics, very dark skinned products make up quite a tiny percentage of purchases so maybe they thought it made better business sense to provide the ability to darken their existing shades? A way for very dark skinned girls to ‘make their own shade’ in a way?
I don’t know, I guess the company would probably have come out and said publicly if that had been their intention though 🤷♀️
@@hannahframpton9235 this is what I thought, too. Like, I’ve had foundations that I look at and think “oh, if only this was just a little bit lighter it would be flawless”, you know? To mix foundation shades means you can have the undertone that suits you best while having the right amount of darkness you need; customisable foundation shades sounds like heaven tbh, especially for people who struggle to find tones that match their skin.
I think they were like "do you want black? Then get this black paint and shut up"
I think that they made the black foundation for people that maybe tried the darkest foundation of theirs (not counting the black foundation)and it did not fit their skin tone so they made the black foundation so you can add black to make the foundation color darker for your skin tone
I know that there are people out there who have very chocolate dark skin, but no one is pure black. We are all human. We all have under tones. The same way how no one is actually white. Just pale.
They said, “HERE! SINCE YALL KEEP ASKING…”
💯
They definitely did this in spite of people asking for more inclusivity. Its very obvious actually since you pointed out the fact that there only one pigment
how about Nyakim Gatwech or the Andamanese People.... you all are so sheltered and so confidently wrong. makes you look stupid.
But how.... how could it be a mistake? It was obviously intentional, they included no undertones. And they clearly knew there was a problem if they had to go out and try to find people dark enough to wear it, but still failed.... and they're supposedly a high-end brand? Tbh this feels either like they're foolishly doubling down on some extremely short-sighted laziness, or it's a pointed commentary.
Yes, pretty much. Some Africans from very close to the equator are as black as a black cat or horse (which is to say they may show very slightly brown or grey under very strong direct light).
You have to wonder what their true intentions were when they released that. You know it wasn't to be inclusive because no human is pure black. Even the darkest of models have an undertone that is plain as day when they wear black clothes. Edited to add its plain as day even without black clothes. But when you hold pure black against their skin it's quite obvious black foundation would never work. Youthforia knew exactly what they were doing.
“Youthforia is an amazing beauty brand” ??? I don't think they are that given this situation, no matter if it was on purpose or not
That has nothing to do with the quality of their other products, which are great indeed. Truth over feelings, please.
@@imb5128??? This is one of their products, so it has to be included in their perception as a brand. Since it was such a tremendous flop, it tanks their reputation a little bit. You could say they are an "OTHERWISE amazing beauty brand," but this situation definitely warrants calling them "a problematic brand who usually has great products."
@@imb5128I disagree, the foundation doesn’t really do much for textured skin. I’m not saying I need it to cover it up, but I don’t need a foundation that enhances the texture
Use it for contour or as a mixer to get a good but too light shade where you need it.
in most cases, you should NOT use pure black for mixing or shadows. just like skin, pure black isn't really a thing that exists in nature. It's why artists don't use black for shading unless they are trying to create super dramatic contrast.
I think it could still be a useful tool for a makeup artists to use to customise the shades they already have by adding the dark to colours that otherwise match the same undertone as their clients and as a contour maybe. It is pretty disappointing that they did not actually try it out on models in the development phase.
In 2024, it's amazing that finding skin tone matching items are still an issue. This includes underwear also. You can find purple orange and yellow panties but a real effort to find brown.
Just went to Amazon and typed in “nude underwear”. Guess what came up? All different shades from chocolate brown to cream.
saying youthforia is an amazing beauty brand and calling this whole debacle a compliment (even if it was qualified as backhanded. backhanded compliments still have a part that is, well, a compliment, even if there's also a part to it that isn't one) was certainly uh... a choice. idk I think those of us that are not in the demographic affected by this should maybe be more careful with our words (if we're going to speak about this at all, which honestly, I'm not sure we should? black creators have this more than covered. although I can see the argument for someone with a big platform like this one still speaking on it) and amplify the voices of black creators instead of using their images, videos, and labour and profiting off of them. like, at the time of me typing this, the video shows the content of several black creators, yet there is no credit given to any of them in the description. no links, no list of names, nothing. that should be the bare minimum imo. however, there is a link to the foundation. this feels so wrong and backwards and just... icky to me.
ps: I've been watching Cassandra's content for years, so I know none of this was meant maliciously at all and is probably just an oversight from a place of privilege. my comment is meant to be constructive criticism and, at the end of the day, is just my personal opinion. Cassandra can obviously do whatever she wants with her platform.
@natgl11 yup exactly 🔥
Cassandra Bankson does not take constructive criticism. She's been getting it for years and continues to do the same stuff.

@@SadiaKhan-qh2ho making this comment so i can come back to this and tell you how wrong you are
Anish Kapoor is not allowed to use this foundation 😭
It's so passive aggresive. they did this to shut those creators up cause they got called out for not having enough shade range so they said we will give you BLACK. no undertones whatsoever.
Not a back handed compliment. It’s a BLACK HANDED INSULT
BAHHAHAHA
Yeah I don’t understand how this could be perceived as a “back handed compliment”…. Like where is the compliment part??
Can we pin a comment that says it is not for mixing and will just make grey?
doubt she will
That's not true😂 it's foundation not paint. You can mix red or blue pigment to make undertones. Green and black do not make gray
@@acorn297 okay you dont understand color theory just say that
@@cheycheyfriend247 clearly you don't... it's the same as lighter foundations. You can take red blue and white and make light skin foundation. You can take black red and blue and make darker foundations.. many black influences do this
@@acorn297 the issue is thats not sustainable for most people. they made this as a foundation.
Thank you for reuploading!
I feel like this could only rlly be used for corpsepaint or juggalo face paint or the blacked out neck look
The only plausible use I can find for using this foundation is cosplaying/doing makeup to look like a skeleton and needing to make the neck black so that you look “empty” and that’s it
Yeah, you can buy blue foundation, why not black? Really handy for cosplay.
@@schokoloko2092 Blackface. You're asking for blackface, that's why.
It would jave been so easy to mix the black pigment with a little red and yellow and make a few undertones of beautiful dark brown shades 😭
Except not all Black people are just brown some are literally black skinned that’s why they’re called black like what are you talking about?
@@aooooooooooooono they're not😭. Everypne has undertones not just ◼️
Yes it's good but I think even a pinch of undertones could really make the foundation better it needs more testing tho for the people that hate you shouldn't it's a mistake and its still in tasting
They got people to spend money on their product. That was the point. Doesn't matter if it's people who are upset with it or not. Their numbers went up selling it and it's always about the numbers
I think pure black for mixing with other foundations is a good idea.
No it’s not, even with paint you don’t mix black for skin tones
That literally wouldn’t work lol you can’t mix that .
It wouldn't work other people have done it and it just turns gray
i mean, if you want grey foundation then sure !
It’s a good idea if you want to look casket ready 😂 you mix any color with even a pin drop of this stuff and it turns it a murky grey. It’s literally pure black face paint
Love you Cassandra but I feel as if this was the worst subject to make an open-ended video on. I think we all can agree no matter what race or skin tone we are that this was offensive, and the foundation was not realistic. The way you worded it makes it sound like there’s room for doubt when there really isn’t at all.
to me it feels like a pigment u mix with your foundation to darken it... so many companies have done this with white so that you can tweak foundation shades to match... once they give US the opportunity to have that we are angry and outraged??? i could mix this pgiment with any of my foundations to make them match while i have a tan in the summer... HOW is that a bad thing???? its not gonna match anyone perfectly but now it makes it easy for EVERYONE to mix a match perfectly................. this whole thing is just so weird to me... its like ur searching for a reason to be mad
@@rewindllythis comment is really ignorant, sorry not sorry. This foundation is literally only made out of one black pigment, and if you paid attention in art class, you’d know that any other foundation mixed pure black is literally gonna turn gray, no matter how much of the other colour you add. They have every right to be mad when brands won’t make darker shades then hand you a pure black foundation as if black people are ACTUALLY black 😐 and you said TO YOU it’s like a pigment to mix but that’s literally trying to take away the problem as this is sold as pure foundation to actually sell to darker skintones. You are not of a darker skintone so of course this doesn’t affect you and you’re using that as a reason to try to justify and frame it as if we’re the ones who are the problem when the problem doesn’t even affect you
@@rewindllyYou cannot mix a black foundation with other shades to darken it. The colour will become muddled, ashy and gray. It’s why artists as they gain experience will highlight or display darkness in shades of brown, blue and purple. True black is a very rarely occurring colour in nature. This shade of foundation will never work on any complexion no matter how dark. Even the darkest skin hues have undertones of blue, purple, red, and brown. No one is searching for a reason to be mad, the brand themselves gave consumers the reason, it was an insensitive release that was made without even prior shade matching with an existing model. She made it, had back lash, tried to hunt down a model and could find no one who it matched. You can even find videos of persons testing it for shade deepening as you suggested, and realizing it was a lost cause.
@@rewindllypeople tried to add contour and other products to even it out but it’s so dark it doesn’t work. The nair hair guy even did black face with it
@@rewindlly wrong. someone showed a video of them mixing it with a lighter shade and the colour ended up looking ashy as hell. so no, people aren't looking for something to be mad about. they did not release it with the intention of it being mixed
something tells me this is just a marketing strategy to get people talking about the brand. as soon as people hear there’s one shade that’s so dark it doesn’t even match the darkest skin tones, people will likely imagine they have a gigantic range of shades available. hence, more people looking into the brand and more buyers.
but that doesn’t take away from it being pretty inconsiderate and a low effort on their part
They just didn’t gaf. They make enough money & wanted to look inclusive without putting in any work. I never heard of the brand before but I don’t think I’d ever buy anything from them.
Have they ever released a white foundation? No. So what was the intention here? Definitely low effort way to say we have the darkest foundation. Its just black paint
there has been a white foundation released... pigments to mix with foundations have existed for a long time yall just clearly havent payed attention and wanna be mad about something... especially in the world of stage makeup mixing pigments ALL the time is a thing... this brand is giving me a pigment in a (hopefully) amazing formula so that i can make my shade match without the foundation feeling nasty and heavy from mixing pigments that dont have a great formula... its definitely low effort to say they dont release white foundations when they do... its a google search away and takes less than ten seconds UNIRONICALLY takes like four maybe 6-8 if ur a slow typer
but they sell and advertise as skin tint sleep in foundation to be used daily and for normal consumers, not as stage makeup or makeup artists, this means any person who bought is supposed to be capable to use direct from the bottle as a foundation, is not advertise as pigment, as a mix in or a contour it is supposed to be a foundation for someone, and sorry nobody is pure black.@@rewindlly
@@rewindlly With "they" the OP clearly meant this brand and not brands in general. Of course white foundations have been made and so have many mixers. THIS brand however only has black and they advertised it as a standalone foundation, not a mixer.

maybe, but also i think -- considering how ive seen clips of the head of the company worrying that she's gonna lose everything from this ... definitely did not think about it all the way through if it was for rage bait
Considering that I’ve had an art teacher straight up ban my class from using black in realistic art, this was not a mistake
there is also a foundation that is pure white meant for like mixing
I think it might be good for people who’s dark and like to mix it with other foundations that are not as dark to customize their shade
I get your point, but wouldn't it just be cheaper to buy a foundation that matches them then? Black pigment tends to make colors grey to ashy. In art, we avoid using it as it'll turn everything muddy. So I dont think it would be great at mixing either. And if you have to start mixing it with more colors to not make it look grey, then you might as well just make the foundation from scratch
it makes foundatioms gray when mixed with them
and they didnt market it as such

This foundation could be mixed with a lighter shade of foundation (the darkest shades) to create a contour shade because a lot of beauty companies sadly don’t make contour products for people with darker skin tones.
if you mix it it will turn grey because it has no undertone
I personally don’t think that’s a backhanded compliment.. to me that’s simply racist af

I guess it could be used as eye shadow or to mix with their second darkest shade, if that one is too light
If they did just a white face paint and called it their lightest foundation more people would be outraged
i wouldn’t call them an „amazing brand“
I think making totally black foundation is cool, you can add it to other foundation to darken it, use this for contouring, or artistic makeup
They didn't make it for that purpose, though. They made it to be a "deep" foundation shade. The problem is, they missed the mark SO HARD.
It could be used as a foundation for art, but it was supposed to be a deep tone.
Can't mix with other colors to darken them unless you want grey foundation or bronzer... Good for zombie makeup tho
If you added this to other foundation it would turn it grey.
It would work if you're grey
No POC's must not work at this company. Mixing will not help this foundation.
