In ~2012 I met Roger Klyne in a Fry's grocery store in the Phx AZ east valley where I reside. He was promoting his new solo album ( of course I bought). We talked for about 10 mins reminiscing the 90's and all the places these guys played at in Tempe, AZ. Roger was so down-to-earth friendly it was as if we'd personally known each other for years. Great guy, great band, great memories. Saludos to Roger and mi amigos from down Douglas, AZ way.
There were so many albums like that in the 90's. Great from start to finish. Now people just produce hit songs and put them on an album full of trash, and they don't care because the hit brings them in the money. Sad waste of radio time.
I was walking thru Best Buy many years ago and this was playing. I had never heard of any of the songs, or the band but I bought on the spot. I'm an old classic rock guy so this is the only album I ever bought that I never heard of before, but I loved every song the very first time I played it. This is a great, great album!!
I asked Roger at a gig in Tuscon one night what the hell a Mekong was? Told me it was Rotgut Whiskey/Rice Wine they serve in Taipei. He said you can feel it dissolving the fillings in your teeth. Great song.
I'm on my way to Khaosan Road in Bangkok, to share some drinks with a stranger or two. Luckily it's not pissing rain tonight, but this song captures the vibe of strange nights here in Bangkok so perfectly.
Roger clyne still tours all the time and has 2 music fests a year in Mexico. You haven't experienced this song until you've seen it performed on a beach in Mexico!
Roger is such a great guy! I got to speak to him when he played a tiny bar in Eugene , OR. Like face to face! Love all their music, lyrics are always great! I have followed them from the time I heard Down together on the radio in the 90's! First time I heard them I fell in love with them! Still today I enjoy them! Was at fire camp for two weeks and listened to them constantly! Can't get enough! Ha ha!
I saw them in Raleigh North Carolina one time at some small little bar as Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers back around 2005. Best show I ever saw in my entire life. Incredible. I treasure that day, just for how good the show was. Really good emotional live performance. The way they talked about leaving away to Mexico for months at a time. I still want to go someday. Some beach island paradise.
Many moons ago I worked retail and bought this cd at work one day . I loved loved loved it! Played the Shit outta that thing. A few months ago, moving boxes, and lo and behold, what did I find! To make this comment sweeter, I will be seeing Roger Cline n the Peacemakers next Saturday. And yes, I’m bringing my cd hopefully they’ll sign it. 🤘🏼
Love this song. Love this album. Love this band! I really wish they had done more. These guys provided the soundtrack for my college experience, and this was my personal theme song for years. When I drank with friends, I still sometimes raise a bottle or glass and say: "As cliched as it may sound, I'd like to raise another round; and if your bottle's empty, help yourself to mine. Thank you for you time, and here's to life." I've got it all worked out, yo: As cliched as it may sound, (this sentiment has been expressed before) I'd like to raise another round (It's a worthy sentiment, and we're doing this again, yo) And if your bottle's empty, help yourself to mine (my life has gifted me with plenty, and if you can benefit from my excess, then please take it) Thank you for your time, (ultimately, time is the universal constant. All we have is time, and who we choose to spend it with is an important decision) And here's to life. (this is why we're all here; to live our various lives in the company of those who we deem worthy of our presence. Let's celebrate that.)
i was at this album release party at the electric ballroom in tempe. it rocked they put on one of the best shows that night. out of all of us local tempe bands trying to make it, i am very glad they did...
Back, many years ago, on family holidays to the States I would get beyond excited about buying CDs from whatever K Mart or Target we found ourselves in. This album was one that I bought. I adored it, completely adored it. Several years late I took a trip purely to see Roger and the Peacemakers. A wonderful band.
Just a fantastic song that I fell in love with the moment I heard it. Bought the disc because of the single Banditos and was pleasantly surprised at how good the whole thing was. Mekong is definitely in my top 100 songs of all time.
fizzy fuzzy one of the best albums of the 90's..i heard down together and grabbed the cd and was hooked. but i always thought they were done soon after, had no idea they still tour as the peacemakers
You got the lyrics right, but those are the wrong Refreshments! *laughs* Still, thank you for posting this. I really wanted to hear this song and didn't have my mp3 player with me. You're a lifesaver!
Roger Cline and the Peacemakers (@azpeacemakers) are his new band. They sound a lot like The Refreshments and they play some of their songs. A friend of mine got to see them in OKC a few weeks ago. I didn't get to go because life got in the way and it pissed me off. He said it was an awesome show.
This album was great but ultimately it leads to the formation of Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers a better band in the end that still makes amazing music.
Mekong whiskey is not from Taipei, Taiwan. Mekong is a Thai brand of whiskey linked here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mekhong_(spirit) and a major river along the Thai, Cambodia, Vietnam border. The majority of the song takes place in a Bangkok bar. The reference to Taipei could be the connecting flight to Bangkok, Thailand via Taipei as China Airlines hub is in Taipei, Taiwan. But make no mistake, this song is about THAILAND!
Ryan Smith en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mekhong_%28spirit%29 It gets you wasted quick! I had the privilege of partying with these guys 3 times & enjoying their music. Hope to catch Roger again some time.
+Tajstah I had assumed it was a song about travelling and drinking. But yes, "Bangkok's pissing rain", would lead one to believe the bar is in Bangkok.
Am I the first person to say that the picture of the band during the guitar solo is the wrong band. Their were 2 bands called the Refeshments. You need the one that has Roger Clyne, PH Naffah, Brian Blush, and Buddy Edward.
Your close but not quite the lyrics and once you hear it yall get it guess I've known and loved this band for over 20 yrs.....there's a story none of us will get unless ya get it
Pretty sure I got this straight from them, but it's been what, ten years or more since I made this? Not gonna bother changing anything now, the original file is long gone.
the picture of the band you showed in the video is not actually this band look up Roger Clyne and the peacemakers that is this band. they were forced to change their name because of the band you showed lol
I said this on a comment a few years ago, but yeah, I acknowledged my mistake. This was my first foray into making lyric videos and the original file is LONG gone now, and I'm not inclined to remake it from the ground up, so mistake or not, it's there! lol
You are incorrect. He says Taipei. They are from Tempe, but this song is about being far away from home. "I came all the way from Taipei today, now Bangkok's pouring rain and I'm goin' blind again." are the correct lyrics.

this was one of those cd's I could listen to from start to finish and enjoy all the songs, can't believe they were not more popular
I just did that yesterday. I've been wanting to listen to the album for a few days. Still know all the words. Love it.
record industry kept them down.
I still listen to it on CD in my car. Must have listened to it a hundred times.
There were so many albums like that in the 90's. Great from start to finish. Now people just produce hit songs and put them on an album full of trash, and they don't care because the hit brings them in the money. Sad waste of radio time.
One of the best front to back albums I ever heard. Top three for sure. It’s up there with meat loaf - bat out of hell or Aerosmith - pump.
I was walking thru Best Buy many years ago and this was playing. I had never heard of any of the songs, or the band but I bought on the spot. Yes it is! This is the best Band most people have never heard of.
Welcome to the 90's!
Fantastic album, and this is my favorite song on it! :)
@@johnhutchins825 The lead singer and drummer still tour under the name Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers. Absolutely astounding music.
@@mystileegriffith82 Are you going to RP next month for Circus Mexicus?

David Baker I've been wondering what a mekong is for sooo long lol
2024 and still going back to these guys. How did they not gain popularity like DMB, OAR, etc.
I'm on my way to Khaosan Road in Bangkok, to share some drinks with a stranger or two. Luckily it's not pissing rain tonight, but this song captures the vibe of strange nights here in Bangkok so perfectly.
A classic from day one, seriously this damn album is so stupendous, half the population really needs to give it a listen.
but everybody knows
that the world is full of stupid people!!
Where are bands like this now? This makes me realize how spoiled we were in the 90s...love this band and this album.
Look up Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers. He still tours and makes albums!
Roger clyne still tours all the time and has 2 music fests a year in Mexico. You haven't experienced this song until you've seen it performed on a beach in Mexico!
Go to a rock club where local bands are playing. There are dozens of bands playing every night around the country that are worth seeing.
@@quaddityThat would be epic!
Somehow, I completely missed this one in the 90s. What a tragedy, this is solid.
The entire album rocks. My 1st pick for desert island albums! My favorite band , for always. Even inspired us to move to AZ a month ago!
Samsies, but I've been here almost seven years now. Here's to life!
2020 reunion. The Refreshments. Call for it. Us Mexico Boys
Don't look her in the eyes -- she'll break your heart.
Every line in this song is perfect.
16 year old here. Introduced to these guys by my dad who was in college at ASU watching these guys at bars. Can’t listen to this song without smiling.

Love the line, "what's his name, my new best friend" and "dont look her in the eye, she'll break your heart"
This and should have been more popular. Just amazing. Saw them live a few times.
One of favorites. Being a traveler resonates a feeling of life.

Roni Delaney same here my dad use to jam out to this when he would take me home from wrestling tournaments it always put me in a good mood.
The song just popped into my head I had to hear it, I haven't heard this in so long.
What a refreshing change ! Lol
Love this album! Great for road trips
Oops. The picture you used at 3:10 is a Swedish band also called the Refreshments.
Great song!

Mekong always gives me the chills, time goes so fast
My cousin Kris, rest his soul, brought me to this great album. He always had great taste in music.
Thank You! This is my favorite song. Could you do Mexico next so I don't have to sing alone? Thanks a million man. Love this album.
this song has been a favorite since my teenage years but it makes sense now.
um no, it's Taipai, because he's in Asia, A mekong is a drink in Tailand, he went from Taipa, Taiwan to Bankgog, Tailand
Thanks for the upload. Great tune!!
fizzy fuzzy one of the best albums of the 90's..i heard down together and grabbed the cd and was hooked. but i always thought they were done soon after, had no idea they still tour as the peacemakers
No, it actually is Taipei. Roger made a trip to Asia with a friend many years ago. This song came out of that.
I haven’t listened to this in so long , and damn, it didn’t disappoint.
Best song on the album

Reminds me of Puerto Rico when I was enjoying myself drinking at a pool hall watching the tourists.
Actually, they weren't. Roger may change the lyrics live to From Tempe, but the album track it's from Taipei
No song better describes Bangkok... city of lost souls lol! I wanna go back!!!!!
I always loved this song. I remember when it first came out. I think it was 1995.
One of my all time favorite songs.🍻👍☺👍🍻
Best record ever!! Atleast in my short life!!
Such an awesome album
One if my favorite songs
Great song. Great song writers.
oh man i remember koh pangan fullmoon party in 2018 met so many friends
Here's to Life! with another Round of Taipei Green Tea with Pearls of Tapioca. Its always Happy Hour in Asia!! - Dylan
Love this song.
Roger changes lyrics to all the time to suit his current location, or audience.
I always thought it was "I came all the way, from Tempe today." Hahahaha!
It is
Heres a dos, keep the change.
Correct. Many connecting flights go through Taipei
The best part is they're also responsible for the theme song to king of the hill!

Exactly! "We came all the way...from Taipei today." They came FROM Taipei, but are currently in Thailand. Regardless I would love a mekong please.
Ummm...the photo at 3:11 is not RCPM/The Refreshments. There was another band called the Refreshments, that is a pic of them.
LOL, aaaand apparently I made that observation a year ago! LOL
Always thought it was "going around again" but "going blind again" makes more sense.
W song
Brian is one badass guitar picker!
Not sure if the picture of the band they show is of them. There is another band called The Refreshments out there, I think that is their photo.

As everyone else has said, you were right. They say 'Taipei' not 'Tempe'
Am I the first person to say that the picture of the band during the guitar solo is the wrong band. Their were 2 bands called the Refeshments. You need the one that has Roger Clyne, PH Naffah, Brian Blush, and Buddy Edward.
You are not the first, nor the second. Nor the third. Nor even dare I say the fourth.
It's definitely Taipei!
Those that have not heard this are just, well, sad....
Always reminds me of Pais Vasco
it's Taipei. As in Taipei, Taiwan.
About a soldier on a short leave during the Vietnam Conflict.
Um, no. Roger tells the story in concert. He spent time in Taipei, and this was his experience. Also--go see RCPM live. They're awesome.
Unless you find a Bangkok, AZ.
I know they use to play in the yucca as well. Roger Clyne new my mother, so if any one here ever talks to him, ask him if he remembers Robin.
2019 anyone?

No. I meant THE REFRESHMENTS FROM SWEDEN
Clearly it's Taipei. Have you even listened to the lyrics of the rest of the song? Tempe would make no sense.
That’s what you say the lyrics are? That’s cool ok but …
lol i said that? its good
