    The fact that he recorded himself playing the piano (you can hear him breathing and humming) makes it so much more human and so much more emotional than if it was just a piano track. Excellent job, C418.

    • @stupidrainbo
      @stupidrainbo 10 років тому +328

      I am guessing that it's a MIDI piano track with a separate recording of humming. It definitely makes the feels, regardless.

    • @stupidrainbo
      @stupidrainbo 9 років тому +395

      I must say that you can also hear him hitting keys on the MIDI keyboard. I thought the recording was at a separate time from the MIDI track, but you can hear him pressing them. This song was sequenced - at least partially - live. He must have had headphones on to hear what he was playing and keep out feedback...
      That's so interesting that someone recorded that way. C418 is a musical genius, the more I listen to his stuff.

    I'm just gonna go say something slightly embarrassing.
    So this is the first song in my life that made me cry,
    I don't know exactly why, maybe it's because I grew up with this game, maybe because he hit just the right notes, probably both.
    But this song, the first time I heard it, which was in a full soundtrack playlist. I had to stop and close my eyes just to properly listen to it.
    This song is the first, and last song till date that I actually found so fucking beautiful that tears formed in my eyes.

      Callmecarson’s last SMP live video brought me here and I have never cried to a song like this one. It didn’t just make me happy for the memories that I made from playing the game and Carson’s show, it made me realize how important all of it was, how it helped shape who I am. And i agree with you, this song brought it out in me too, as the keystrokes slowly faded in with that majestic nostalgic tone followed by emotionally captivating humms, filling the song with life and memories. I love it.
      And even though all the internet may claim that other things are more important and evoke more emotion, this song will always be a moment were I can look back and be happy for what was forgotten, always come back to these things, as memories are faint, but links are always there
      keep crying

    “Too strong for this dream. To tell them how to live is to prevent them from living.”
    - Minecraft
    Listening to this song and remembering this quote got me thinking and realizing a lot of shit that I think goes about everyone’s life once in a while which is “What’s the point?” But I think that must be exactly what life is you know? There is no point to it but at the same time that doesn’t mean you can’t make it have a point. Just like in Minecraft you create a new world; vast and empty. It has no purpose. No meaning. Just simplicity. Much like life if you look at it through a narrow scope. But then you fill that with people you love. You fill it with laughter, sadness and anger. Then all of a sudden life itself starts to bloom with much more meaning. You realize things that you wouldn’t have had you not thought about it before. Just like at this moment. If you are reading this then that would mean that you and I are alive and breathing at the same time. And strangely a game had brought you and I to meet at this very source. Now it may seem strange really but think about it isn’t that just beautiful? Life as a connection? A way to connect without any wire? It’s strange and meaningless but at the same time it makes it so much more.
    I don’t know who you are. I don’t know why I’m still writing this but whoever you are I want you to know that the universe is listening to you. We’re all made of love. So if you’re giving up or questioning things just take a look around once in a while. Your answer is just around you. Your answer is you. Life is just a game made of ones and zeroes.
    But you are the player.
    Edit: I can’t believe this comment got attention. I wrote this when I was going through a really bad time in my life; I even attempted taking my own life. I wrote this as a way to ground myself. To understand that things are the way they are because it just is but it’s not permanent. I’m sure all of you have had your moments, lost a loved one, felt alone, been rejected, outcasted, ridiculed, etc. I don’t want to lie to you and tell you that it will end. But rather, there will be a time where everything clicks and you’ll find yourself at the bridge of many pathways. And whichever path you choose; you can never go back. If your are young and reading this; live. Don’t stop living. Don’t stop running. Don’t stop laughing. Don’t stop feeling what it means to live. And if you’re older; accept. Accept that life just is. Accept the end will come. Accept that they won’t be the one. Accept they will be the one. Accept that life is magnificent.
    But most importantly; hold on to the ones that you know you need to hold on too. At this time, especially in this very divided time, it is important we learn that time is being wasted. Valuable people are being lost. And in doing so, we are becoming lost as well. Be considerate. Be courageous. Be the you that you aspired to be; not what society or people told you to be. You are the only thing that is true and real.
    You are all loved. I love you.

    When i hear this song i have two very distinct feelings:
    1) I feel it symbolizes that moment when you grow out of Minecraftand head towards the REAL world (*SPOILER* like the game's ending tells you) Leaving Minecraft behing to spread your wings.
    2) When you have a new chapter in life and you have to adapt anew and leave behind many things, like going to university.
    In the end, both things relate with the description that C418 gave to the song, "See you next time."

It just reminded me of times when I used to have friends... those times when i would come back home from school, turn on an old toshiba laptop that was good enough to run minecraft, login to my skype account and with my friends would play on minecraft servers. It's just this kind of weird fog that covers those memories, being strong, yet vague and that's what brings me the slightest reason to exist anymore. I think I get it now. The entire reason this song is called intro, yet it is the final song in the album, is because this isn't the intro to mincraft, this is the transition from Minecraft to real life. It's telling you that *THIS* is the start of everything you do in your life from then on. Because there are endless amounts of Minecraft worlds, but at the end of the day... There's only one real world... And it's waiting for you to explore it.

      It is after you got that chance, and you partied all night with your friends about it, these are are all other songs. But there always then comes this moment of true realization, where you sit outside, I like thinking watching the sun rise in this case, realize the true meaning of that, just stare into the emptiness, the rest of the night that is slowly giving way to the warmth of the first rays of the day, while you are transitioning mentally to be another person.

    The full script of jschlatt's A Tribute to Minecraft, with a few mistakes of course:
    The last time you clicked on a minecraft video was probably like 5 years ago. Don’t worry, i’m in that camp too. I’d rather watch paint dry than watch another hunger games lets play. My name is Schlatt, and today we’re gonna talk a bit about how a stupidly simplistic sandbox became my favorite game. Where I think it took a turn in the wrong direction, and why even after all the new changes, even after how god-awful the community’s become, and even after...mine...coins? There’s still a soft spot for it in my heart. Minecraft came out for the Xbox 360 on May 9th, 2012. Coincidentally, that was the day that 12 year old Schlatt found his new favorite game. Remember Bionicles? Yeah I had more than you did, so naturally a game where you could build whatever you wanted was right up my alley. And the 360 release of minecraft was a barebones version of an already barebones game. It was charmingly simple, dropping you into a world with no real instructions or goals. There wasn’t much to do. But things you could do, the game nailed. Combat was straightforward and fun, especially with a group of friends. Building stuff was almost therapeutic, and the quiet times spent mining in preparation for what was to come. That space to organize your thoughts and plan out your next move, all the while being serenaded by those faint piano melodies in the background. That was the icing on the cake. I was in love with this game. It let me be creative, adventurous. You could do with everything around you what you pleased. And to this day some of my fondest gaming memories have come from open world games like that. Day., GTA4, Sakura Beach… W-wait Every day i’d hop off the bus, throw myself on the couch and log back in. There was only one world I played on. I wanted to be the only of my friends that played on two, so I crammed as much cool shit on there as I could. I built minecarts, Mob traps, I exploited this duplication glitch and built a diamond house out of diamond blocks. Listen. I was a perfectionist. And this world had to be perfect. Or else all I would have been doing was wasting away in front of a TV every day. But even after the countless hours I pumped into minecraft, I was still pretty ass at building. So I started watching other people play to figure out what I could do or build to make my world a little better. And as a result, I found an entire new avenue of the game. I was never a huge fan of lets plays. My introduction to the genre was...well…loud. Even back then was a screaming contest. And even though I was twelve, that kind of stuff just didn’t sit well with me. I felt myself gravitating towards more reserved and laid back youtubers like Monkeyfarm, who in the let’s play space was a breath of fresh air. He took a very methodical approach to building, and his videos were more about that process rather than about him. And as I watched more videos, I eventually found my way into modded Minecraft through these two guys, Sips_ and Shin_. They were the quieter side of the Yogscast, and even though they both sucked at the game, it was hilariously fun to watch them dick around and trying to figure things out. These boys were the perfect lets play combo, and their SipsCo series where they automate the process of dirt collection is single handedly responsible for my foray into Tekkit. Tekkit was a different beast altogether. A collection of technology-oriented mods that looked like minecraft, but offered an entirely new way to play the game. If you didn’t like mining, you didn’t have to do it. You could build one of these things and it’d dig for you. If you didn’t like building, well guess what. Anything you wanted to do could be done with the right machines, and it led to some pretty incredible stuff. Tekkit’s charm wore off quickly, though. After the sipsco series ended, I found myself getting bored with mods, and gradually, I made my way back to Vanilla. But the charm was gone here, too. I tried to put my feelings into words on the Minecraft forum, and I left an extremely controversial post. I feel like minecraft is becoming too complicated. I liked it the old way better. Now there’s weighted pressure plates and these sun things. I still don’t know how to use anything from that redstone update. Why is everything becoming more complex? I thought minecraft was popular for it’s sipmlicity (or at least that’s why I liked it). I think I summed it up pretty well. I had stopped playing with mods because I preferred that simplicity - and with each new update and each round if new items and gameplay mechanics added to the base game, I felt like minecraft wasn’t minecraft anymore. So that begs the question… what is Minecraft? For me, minecraft is not knowing how to play Minecraft. It’s generating that first world and thinking to yourself “what next?”. It’s standing at the the foot of a massive ravine. Minecraft is that dirt hut you built on the first night. The memories I cherish the most from this game are from when I had no idea what I was doing. They’re from when the game was simple, and when my life was simple, too. Because back then, there was nothing to worry about. School was a joke, I didn’t have to study to do well. I didn’t have any commitments… pretty much all of my free time was spent playing video games. And it was enjoyable. I didn’t have a future to worry about. I was only just beginning to realize I liked making videos, and that was only because of an uncle in the field who continued to encourage me. Looking back, I suppose the simplicity of my seventh grade life coincided pretty well with the simplicity of Minecraft. And as I got older, and I gradually figured myself out, what I enjoyed doing, what my hobbies were, what I wanted to do later in life, Minecraft got older, too. At the end of the day, I didn’t know if it was my maturation or Minecraft’s maturation that started pushing me away, but ever since 2013, the game just hasn’t felt the same. Until in a moment of reflection, and tranquility, that soft piano music starts fading in. And the warm melodies I’ve come to know all too well over the years invite me back into a world I’ve missed for so long. C418’s Minecraft: Volume Alpha. I know nothing about music theory, and i’m not gonna pretend like I do, but there’s something about it. Maybe it’s the simple piano of Dry Hands, maybe it’s the quirkiness of subwoofer lullaby, or maybe it’s not actually the music at all. Because when I heard these songs the first time, they didn’t blow me away. I didn’t instantly fall in love with the soundtrack. But the soundtrack is the only thing that hasn’t changed since I loaded up the game for the first time. To me, these songs are timeless. And when they start playing, just for a moment, I feel like I’m twelve again, playing on that same world I always used to. The music is what brings back all those memories. It brings back Minecraft. Today, the Xbox 360 sits quietly on my dresser. To it’s right, a hacked Wii with the Homebrew channel on it. Before I got into Minecraft, I used to spam infinite items in Mario Kart and just make the race a living hell for anyone in it. And yes, that is actually me playing the game, recording the analog TV with a camera on a tripod. I know, it was bad. But I had to start somewhere, and that was it. To its left, a macbook pro that weighs more than I do. A parting gift from my uncle, who lost his fight to cancer in 2013. He was the one who got me into making videos in the first place, and god knows where I’d be without him. They’re all dusty, but they’re all still plugged in, hooked up to a TV that hasn’t been on for a while. And that world is still there, too. So I decided to go back in. For the first time in half a decade, I turned on the Xbox. I spawned in my wooden house, the first thing I ever built in minecraft. I made my way past the dozen or so dogs I had bred, and I went outside, and saw the first ever mob trap I had ever tried building. I don’t think I ever got that one working. Next door, the house of a friend I hadn’t spoken to since middle school. Above it, a “floating island” that I spent days trying to make. A little up the hill, the second attempt at a mob trap, which I think I got working at some point, and the entrance to a minecart rail that went on for miles. Underground, into caves, over the water, it was insane. The magnum opus of the entire world. And slowly but surely, Sweden faded in. And I just started crying. They weren’t sad tears, they weren’t tears of joy, I wasn’t overwhelmed, I...I don’t know. I knew that all this world is, all this game is, is just a cleverly constructed sequence of 1’s and 0’s, but I knew that in a way it’s a part of me. This world is something that I will always hold dear to my heart. It’s a window into the past, a reflection of the kid I was. It’s been waiting here, unchanged since 2013, when I logged of the 360 for the last time. Unchanged since I started to become the man I am today. Minecraft, the game, is changing. The only thing that’s really stayed static about it, has been the music. You can put me in some random world I’ve never explored. You can add weird new items i’ll never learn how to use. But to me, it’s not minecraft until that music starts fading in, and I’m pulled back into a world where nothing really mattered, where everything was easy, and when, well, I was happy.

    I'm writing this comment to simply thank C418. Although I've listened to this song on multiple occasions, this time was different. (Warning: This comment is a little preachy and/or angsty, however I hope it doesn't come off as anything too cringy.) Right now I'm away from home with my mother's side of the family. This all came to be because my Grandfather was about to die and we wanted to be there. We drove into town, stayed at the hospital for a few hours, went back the next day and waited. Hours passed. My grandpa lay there, his breathing getting more shallow and his blood pressure dropping. It wasn't until about 5:45 PM when his quick breaths became large gasps. We all surrounded his bed as he failed to get in oxygen. Everyone in the room started to cry as my grandpa's breathing got worse and worse. And then, peacefully, his breathing stopped. My hand was on his chest. His mouth curled until it was shut. His eyes remained open, staring at us blankly. Our nurse took his pulse. Nothing. After years of suffering, it was all over. I couldn't help but cry. We all packed our bags while the nurse called for the medics to take the dead body away. I went to a family member's house for the night and slept. This brought me to today, when luckilly, the emotional trauma had worn off. I went about my day normally for a while, up until the point where I wanted to listen to some music. This song came to mind almost immediately. I pulled it up and listened, expecting tears to roll down my face while I thought about the death of my grandpa... yet that didn't happen. I was somehow soothed, freed by this song. The title manages to describe the situation so well. It's the intro to a new phase of not only my life... but my grandpa's. RIP James Albert Ballard, July 14th 1939 - July 9th 2018. May God bless you in Heaven as you have blessed us on Earth.

    Imagine this for a moment: If you beat the Ender Dragon, and head back home, you'll get a Music Disc of this song in your inventory. It is a special disc, as it plays no matter how far away from the Jukebox you might be, and will speed up time so that there is a perpetual sunset.
    But there's a catch. When it finishes playing, the screen fades out, and that's it. You can't play in that world anymore. No observing, no interacting with the settings of the world, it just ends.
    You can always decide not to play it, or you can decide to cut it short. But if you are truly ready to move on from that world and move onto the next, then you would have that sweet 4 minutes and 45 seconds to just realise how far you've come, all the things you've done in that world, and you can choose what to do with that precious time.
    You can say goodbye to the dogs and cats you may have tamed. You can walk around to see all of the things that took you so long to build. Or you can find a place to just look at it all, and watch as the warm sun shines over everything. And as the screen slowly fades to black, all that you are left with are the cherished memories.

Then, that planet is destroyed, and only one human remains. That human then sets out to find a new home, and new friends. After he thinks he has given up, an Alien appears, and makes clones of every human thar died during the destruction of our world. Then the Alien's species find the humans, and ally with them. This results in a beautiful friendship and both species prosper to the end of time.

    it’s the toxic clickbaiters that take this piece of art, and turn it into something terrible, something that the creators of this game never wanted it to be seen as. It’s seen as a stupid game that little kids play. I’m not a little kid. Even if I was, so what? I enjoy a beautiful game. I don’t care about playing the newest and trendiest games, those games will die in an instant. There just isn’t that same spark there, that special feeling you get when you open the game up. You can only feel that in this game. This game isn’t dying, the point of view of this game is changing.

      @@SkyanUltra it is. but its too late. the game has changed. its not what it used to be, its only something thats trying to be. its a former reminder of a great game, but as soon as you play it now its different. they've added so many unnecessary things. you can see this as something good, new content to make the game last longer, but how the game was, it was perfect. now not having played thegame in quite some time, and coming back is jarring. but you can still generally play the game how it used to be. though it wont be completely the same.

    • @SkyanUltra
      @SkyanUltra 5 років тому +57

      @@gforbidden Listen, you can complain about how the new Minecraft is bad and all, i'm not going to change that. But what you may find unecessary could be incredibly useful for another person. Lots of people bring this point up when they talk about old MC being better, but Minecraft is simply trying to stay true to it's goal of being a sandbox game and adding more stuff to play around with. Lots of people didn't like command blocks, and some still don't. But plenty of people have even made a living off of these things and have made incredible things with them! They've recreated entire games in Minecraft, like Bloons Tower Defense, and even have done even crazier shit than that. You talk about how the game was perfect as it was. I'm not entitled to change that opinion, but even so, Minecraft has obviously evolved thanks to all this new content. Even if they kept the game how it was, the game would become a incredibly boring game after that. If they didn't add new content, and new features to both improve on, and overall increase the overall fun of the game, then the game wouldn't have had become as beautiful and popular as it is today. Minecraft has overtaken Tetris as the number 1 best selling game of all time, and Tetris was a series of games. That proves that Minecraft is going in a great direction from here on out. Attention has yet to even die down all too much, i'd say 4/5 of the people caught by the big wave of Minecraft have still been loving the game, and plenty of people who used to shit on the game are playing and enjoying it a lot. Plus, thanks to incredibly great ideas such as the recipe book to help new players get themselves eased back into the game, the many new places to explore, along with new mobs and mechanics that flesh out the game, Minecraft is still in a Renaissance that has been bringing in brand new players celebrating this wonderful game.
      While I obviously have said many times before that I don't want to invalidate your opinion on the game, I personally think that Minecraft is still as great as it was years ago, possibly even better. The game has been fleshed out ever since the Alpha and Beta releases, and have been made more fun and enjoyable for years to come thanks to the updates that Mojang has been rolling out.

Those sleepovers where we laughed at smosh videos for hours. Downloading mods and playing on Minecraft servers. Building Legos so fast that we'd take them apart and put them back together. Today my xbox 360 sits in my cherished items box, sitting next to it is all the halo games aswell as a old watch from my great grandfather. My mom gave to me from when I was 5 years old. The xbox360 was a gift for my when I turned 14. And When I got halo 3. I loved it but then I got minecraft. Minecraft is my all time favorite game. Nothing was bad about it. And when I moved out of the house to college, I couldn't bring it with. So I stored it in the attic with alot of other stuff. As I came back on after my 2 year degree, I couldn't find it. Mother told me that my cousins took it without asking. I went to their house and caught them in the act. But before I stopped them, I saw them playing Minecraft. They have tossed the halo 3 case on the floor but I didn't care. I decided to watch them as they played minecraft. The laughing, the happiness, and the excitement on their faces was so breathtaking. I watched them from when they built their first house, to when they beat the ender dragon. When they beat the ender dragon I congradulated them. I asked, "How did you beat the game?". They said they read the old minecraft books. And so I helped them play a little bit longer and said how about we go to the pawnshop to see if there was any xbox 360's. We went to the shop and found a xbox 360, bought it, brought it back to their house, and I bought minecraft on the xbox. I went home that night with all of my stuff. And when I was putting my stuff back I decided to plug in the xbox. I launched a new world, I played until 6 in the morning, beating the game. Then when I finished, I cried. Knowing as hell I felt the exact same things from when I first beat the ender dragon as they did. That sensation overwhelms you. Now I live near my cousins and have a wife and 2 kids. Im on my oldest ones account right now. I check what he does on his computer every night. Thats when I saw this song played in the history. I checked it out and thats what led to me telling my story about the cave game. And I just want to say this game is going to live on forever. No matter what. It may become low in population but this game will NEVER die. It is truly amazing on how Minecraft and the Music within the game is truly undyable. You will have the same sensation when you play your favorite game for the first time in years again. That is my story with Minecraft. I have another story with a friend but I will tell that one later. Getting old isn't something you should dread on instead, reflect a bit and do the same thing you did when you were younger and just say "Like the good old days" it worked for me. - a buddy you may never see again.

    This has a wakeup feeling in it. Like the night's ending, the sun is rising, you put an end to one phase in your life and start the next one.

    I turned 21 a few days ago, Im grateful I found this song cause its reminding me of being 14 again, having true friends for the first time in my life when I really needed it. I kind of thought Id never reach the age of 21, not cause I would die, but because it seemed like a lifetime away. Here goes to the life I've lived, all the mistakes I made no matter how bad, to my partners who have made my life and every horrible day so much more worth it, to the dull moments and pure joy I've felt, to the people I've lost along the way, I thank it all. While a part of me does want to change some things, deep down, I wouldn't want to change a single thing. I promise to myself that I'll be better. To whoever may be reading this, keep going. There's so much value you'll get out of 7 years and you'll get more out of a full lifetime.
