I have a Portuguese dark that I'd thinned out to 6 branches. It's only a year old. I pinched it when It got to about 5'. Every branch has fruit up-and-down. It was the last one to produce leaves and the 1st one to show fruit buds.
Hey Ross, can you extend that west facing bed outward and plant smith, soccoro black, white madiera, green michurinska and other split proof varieties up front? Seems like your house is shading the trees that are closer to the wall.
I’m so glad you’re trying out Texas peach, I’m also growing it and noticed some small fruits forming. it’s supposed to be very early and taste peachy so let’s hope it stands out!
I have a Chicago hardy fig tree that has been in the ground for 5-6 years, I'm in zone 6b. I realize I did not plant in correct spot because of hours of sun. Only gets 4-5 hours a day. The last 3 years I've had fruit start growing, but none has ripened. What are your thoughts on the Chicago hardy fig?
Hey Ross. I bought stallion and Campanieri fig trees from you and they’re doing great. I need a tree for a spot that gets about only 4 hours of direct sun light per day. I know you have a list of low light fig trees but I was hoping you can rattle off two or three of the best early ones. Thanks again.
Ross, what kind of pots/containers do you use for your figs? I’ve only got two right now, a St. Rita and a Verdino del Nord, and they are still young. But I plan to keep them in containers and I’d love for you to share a little about container size, drainage, and anything else you think may be significant. My two little figs are growing like gangbusters and seem to be really happy. They are in 3 gallon pots right now. I ultimately want to put them in 20 gallon containers. I will have some latitude in designing drainage, side vs bottom, and how big. Anyways, I’m rambling. Looks forward to any advice or direction. Thanks!
Preferably as early as possible. Fruit buds form in May here. By June 1st-July 1st, I see small figs. 70-120 days after you see a small fig, it'll be ripe. Depending on the variety.
It's fruited 2 years in a row from dieback for me. Pinching seems to be required to slow down that vigor and return it to hormonal imbalance. It could also be that I didn't thin the shoots out enough on my tree to let in more light. I got a bit greedy.
Hi Ross I have 2 fig trees that have grown rigoureusly and are one dense mess. We are now mid summer, can I thin them out now? If I thin them out can I use these summer cutlings to grow new plants or can I only use those from winter pruning?

I've been growing it for years. It's one of the many named Celestes.
@@RossRaddi exactly but I heard it Tastes nothing like Celeste lol
Great video. My outdoor figs always die back and grow back strongly, but don't fruit. Nice tidbit of information that could be a game changer. Thanks.
Good talk, didn’t think much about what varieties performed better after dieback.

So pinching and around 3 main branches got it!
Salut toujours du bon boulot. Dis moi si vous pouvez m'envoyer des graines ou des boutures vers la Guadeloupe? Je cherche razzmatazz? Et che?
Merci
I don't sell cuttings of either, sorry!

That's really tough. I'm not sure tbh.
@@RossRaddi ok thanks. What is lowest light tree?

@@RossRaddi I don’t wanna seem ungrateful but I need a ( low light) dark fig. 😂
Has anyone thought of trying to cross a fig with a mulberry for hardiness? Fruit m8ght be kind of weird.

15 gallon max, any higher will be too heavy.
Anything at or above a 3 is great. I just recommend using a well draining soil.
So are the trees supposed to have actual figs by 90 days (or whatever) before your first frost date, or just fruit buds?

Do you have green michurinska inground? I’ve found it to be ridiculously vigorous but near impossible to fruit. My tree is still young though

What is your earliest ripening fig? What is your favorite fig?
Verdino del Nord VR, Black Celeste, verdolino.
What do you do with all these figs?
I eat them 😅
I haven't pruned any of my figs and none of them beared fruit this spring!😭
Where are you located and what varieties are you growing, Belinda? Did you watch my recent video about the reasons why your fig tree isn't fruiting?

You can try!
I would thin them out if there's still time left to see fruits and you're not seeing fruit buds.
@@RossRaddi that
Thanks
Would you please sell cuttings?
I sell fig cuttings every November-January. The sale this year is over. Contact me next year. I'll be happy to help.
U should make a video about fig breeding projects u want to see “🙃😎”
I think your videos would be more helpful if you spelled out the varieties you're talking about.
