Buying refurbished enterprise drives is pretty tempting. Could you do a video about that topic along with any recommendations you may have on it? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Great videos!
Maybe for a home NAS w double redundancy. What I’ve seen lately is refurbished drives at $20-ish less than new. Not sure that’s enough for a used drive with unknown history.
I bought a refurbished 2 TB Seagate HDD, it was new and 100% functional, but just for 6 months... valuable data totally lost and no chance to retrieve the info with restore softwares.
Excellent video. I just ordered a Qnap TS 230 NAS largely on the info from your video comparing it to another brand. I had no idea what type of HD to install and this video answered my questions. Thank you.
Thank you so very much, dear, sir, for this very knowledgeable and very good information and oversight of WD HDD!! Highly appreciated! Best Regards from Sweden!
So far i got really good experience with WD. In my first pc the hdd was a 40 gb WD modell, but it always corrupted my windows xp. But after that in my next prebuild pc i got a wd blue 500 gb modell, still working after 15 years, used it as a system drive for 10 years. Got an another 10 years old WD Green, used as a secondary drive, still working. I use these nowadays as external cold backups. Nowadays i got a 4 and 6 TB WD Purple as media storage and backups (they were dirt cheap). But in SG front i got a 3 TB modell, still working as my secondary data storing drive after 8 years. And got two 4 tb external modells, 1 for backup and 1 as a ps 4 drive. Nowadays thinking about getting a 10 TB WD Black modell, it's got a pretty good price in my country, only 25% more expensive than a 6 TB Blue modell. I will never understand these price ranges in the Hungarian marketplace.

@@jorgemora8644 This hard drive didn't have the OS on it. It actually had virtual instruments and samples. I just recently replaced it with a Western Digital Black 6TB hard drive. I have yet to find out if it works, as my sighted friend and I just put every component I have in that machine into a new tower. I wonder, do they make 6TB or higher solid state drives?
@MsAussie83 i havent seen any 6tb ssd yet, just know that it will be pricier than a spinner if available. (I've never searched for them. If you use the drive for a lot of reading. (Music samples that are always being used, not much is being written to drive aka files not being added very often to the drive) i would say wd red pro would be a great choice
@@jorgemora8644 The solid state drives I have are actually WD Blue. One is 500 GB, which I'll have the operating system on, and one is 2 TB, which I'll have my Sonar projects on. I also have a 20 GB Intel SSD, which I will use for recording projects. Basically, I would transfer projects to and from the 2TB drive to the 20GB drive to record, then transfer them back to the 2TB drive to save.
@MsAussie83 I would stick with the wd gold series for your use. I am currently using a 4tb wd gold. It has yet to disappoint with recording of my gaming while im gaming on the same pc. Wd gold is essentially the best of both red and purple wd drives (red is for many reads and purple for many writes)$. Those give a 5yr warranty. If you are trying to go for another brand, I don't really use any others and wouldn't have much insight. I hope this helps!
Note: (Wd gold is a spinner hard drive so read/write speeds would be much slower than ssd.)
I bought a 4TB blue on amazon and they sent me a 4TB gold lol
I wonder if wd gold is better than black for gaming
WD Gold is noisier! A similar drive (WD Ultrastar) was tested here - ua-cam.com/video/THYPA5FMiD4/v-deo.html
Me buying gold just for the speed and reliability in day to day use

Has the reliability of WD drives improved?
@Mikhail K. Seagate are and always were
If you shuck externals would I have to cover that one pin that renders them non functional as an internal drive?
@@Xorxfon best to try using without covering the pin. If it doesn’t work then yes, you’ll need to cover the pin. I used a black permanent pen to mark it. Repeat when each layer has dried until you can’t see the contact.
you need to be wearing a lapel mic, the audio is poor...
Let me tell you this.. I never cared for hard drive necessitation and always used whatever.. never had a failure.
Went WD NAS with red drives and gone through two status -BAD failures. IMHO they’re average junk.
Let it be known WD got in trouble faking drives 2TB to 6TB lying about the read write systems and using SMR instead of CMR which is made for RAID.. cost cutting mentality.
