I met Katie on a street in Vancouver a few years ago. I was ironically working as an animator in Jurassic World fallen kingdom at the time, the sequel to the movie where she got eaten by a Mosasaur. I went up to her, fanboyed and got a selfie together. She is genuinely an extremely nice person, very gracious, friendly and of course pretty.
The ending wasn’t rushed and the show wasn’t cancelled. They knew they were only doing five seasons. While the end was tragic, Arthur’s final journey with Merlin was emotional and beautiful.
I like the ending, just wished they pushed the ending a little forward, or gave the characters more time to actually mark themselves as their legends. Cuz like Merlin's been doing everything in secret and we dont get to see him openly be a powerful mage, and arthur's reign as king, although went on for years, we just didnt see much of it given the timeskips between seasons.
That’s not true, Johnny Capps said at Comic Con in San Diego that he and Julian Murphy were in negotiations with BBC for season 6 and had plans to make a Merlin movie. Capps and Murphy instead took the writer and director from Merlin after BBC cancelled the show and created Atlantis.
I know I'm late with this comment, but I just finished the series yesterday. The end of Merlin is bitter, heartbreaking, but a real emotional masterpiece, and I love it. Legend has it that mighty King Arthur, and his loyal Knights of the Round Table peacefully sleep in the beautiful enchanted Crystal Cave below the holy land of Albion. They are guarded by the Lady of the Lake. And Merlin will wake them up when the world needs them the most. They will come, and protect us from evil, injustice, and give peace to the world once again. The prophecy says that Arthur will rise again, and make his kingdom in the modern age.
While I liked the ending for the whole magic revelation and relationship development of Arthur and Merlin, it still makes no sense to me. The whole show was about making Arthur this great King that unites Albion, and he dies way before he reaches his goal. He'd just started being King, magic was wasn't made legal yet and Albion wasn't united yet, how can you ignore that? To me, it would've made much more sense to have Merlin save him, then show a season 6 where they act like equals, Arthur and the knights knowing of his powers, going through adventures together, uniting Albion and Merlin ending up as Kingmaker like the season 6 script suggests. They could then finish by showing Arthur dying as an old(er) man like he did, Merlin burying him and waiting for his return until the present day. I'm really upset they were extremely keen to make every destiny come true except this one. It leaves Merlin alone after all his hard work and all his losses, feeling like a failure. I think the season 6 script is very accurate in describing his pain and guilt and he just didn't deserve this
I wish they continued the series, maybe with a modern storyline or just more seasons to develop the story to end on a better note. I wonder why they didn’t, cuz Merlin was popular wasn’t it? So to give another 2 seasons a try wouldn’t have been impossible but no I guess
The ending of Merlin was shit! Extremely rushed with no direction. Completely ruined the whole thing for me and I can't bare to watch the re-runs knowing they all build up to that terrible ending. To me the team ran out of money and knowing they were getting cancelled just gave up and rushed the ending to be done with it ruining all the effort that came b4. Anyone who enjoys watching Merlin as their first run be prepared for the worst last episode you can imagine.
Agreed. Just finished last night and there's just so much wrong with it. So many loose ends and unfinished character goals. Uniting the five kingdoms. Never happens. Arthur ushering in an age of magic-friendliness. Never happens. Merlin protects Arthur. Failed. The death of Morganna is rushed. The ONLY good thing that happens in the finale are the scene of Arthur and Merlin. But, even that is undermined by the idea that he could have called the Dragon immediately and gotten Arthur to the lake before he died. It's sad because there was something good to work with there.
Honestly the whole Gwaine and Percival thing was so stupid. They both knew there was absolutely no way they could defeat Morgana. Plus, it legit only served to kill Morgana and... Gwaine for some reason?
Yes. In Merlin she is not the most dangerous villain. But in today's Supergirl show, she is much more clever and dangerous. And willing to be a really nasty person. She appears intelligent too. So there is no telling what danger she will try to invoke. Luckily Supergirl can not be beaten.
Weakest? Please Morgana is a high priestess she powerful as hell. Merlin however with his powers he is powerful but with morals weak as hell but Morgana also has that she knows what she wants and goes for it. She is the most powerful person in Merlin, nobody can convince me different
Jasmine Bailey She is extremely powerful but she looses in the end because of overconfidence, she had been told that emrys can control dragons but didn't think that he would have a sword forged in a dragons breath. That is why she turns her back to merlin to gloat over Arthur, she thinks she is immortal

He hasn't been trained by other sorcerers like Morgana has but he has studied his magic books and learned some things for Kilgarrah. When Merlin was a small child he could make things move with his mind. When Morgana was a young adult she had.....bad dreams. Merlin had pure natural talent while Morgana had to be trained to do even the simplest spell. Merlin annihilated one of the most powerful high priestesses Nimueh by calling down lightning in an awesome display of magical power. He defeated Cornelius Sigan, renowned as the most powerful sorcerer of all time up to that point. Merlin blasted Morgana easily in the final battle when he was using his full power without restraint.
