Dope video. I'm currently using a Studio Black and I haven't used FL Studio in months because of how engaging the software hardware combo work so good together. Using the mouse to navigate just doesn't feel the same after using gear that 100% controls the software.
Yea, FL Studio is good starting out but once you get a MPC controller or stand alone of any sort and a keyboard/ Midi keyboard it hits different. Clicking in notes and making a beat in fl feels different which both can do the job but the MPC setup just feels more natural....Also you can get ideas out quicker
I own an MPC Studio Black and coming from having used an MPC 2000 for almost a decade I loved it, but one big con you’re leaving out is that Akai doesn’t make drivers for it past High Sierra, so when I bought a 2020 MacBook Pro it was completely useless. Unless someone plans on staying on High Sierra indefinitely and never updating their Mac OS I personally couldn’t recommend the MPC Studio Black, Akai pretty much added it to their legacy line and are no longer supporting it. I ended up getting the MPC Live 2 and have zero regrets. In my opinion it’s the most stand alone MPC that exist as of now, it’s battery powered and it has built in speakers that actually sound good, much better than I expected. I’d recommend the MPC Studio to someone who wants the vintage LCD workflow with no interest in updating their OS , but definitely not for anyone buying a new Mac or wanting to update past High Sierra.
I keep hearing about problems with MPC devices, especially the controllers not working well with the latest Mac OS. This is why I never liked Mac. I'm still using MPC Studio and Element with no problems on Windows 11.
I have an MPC Studio Black, MPK mini Mk3 and MPD218 and I use MPC software and Logic Pro X. I updated my MacBook Pro 2020(Intel) to Big Sur last week and all my controllers are working perfectly. Akai put out some new notes on their website about hardware compatibility and support. So far, I've just heard it's the M1 Macs that are having issues.
@@Neji_88 Nice, I read on their website that the Studio Black was " in testing " but they haven't listed it as compatible, So how's it working with the latest version of MPC? I really wish they update the drivers to work with the Advance 49, I bought it last year and the driver won't install on my MBP running Catalina, unfortunately I get that icon with the crossed out line, which is a shame because I just bought it last summer. I can use it as a basic controller but not the features that I really bought it for.
@@nicolasstrawberry4148 Yeah, I read that on their website too but thought I’d test out my studio black along with my other controllers and it works perfectly, no hiccups at all and it’s the latest version of MPC. Agreed that Akai really need to pick up the pace with their updates. Kinda screwing people over especially those with older hardware if they can’t use it until they release compatible updates/drivers. I updated from Catalina to Big Sur and all’s well with my controllers so hopefully it’ll work out for you too if you do the same! 🤞
You answered all the questions i had, in one whack. You are excellent at explaining things. Here I am i 2023, looking at this model. I know theres a MK2, but i dont need the strip, nor do i like the small screen. This Mk1 version fits what i am needing/wanting. Do you still use it today?
I'm still rocking the MPC Studio Sliver. My take is how come MPC is coming out with all these different MPC boxes when all of them (for the most part) lead you to the same road? The end result is that classic MPC sound. Thank for the review and much respect to the Bros/Gals rocking the Legacy MPCs'.
Native Instruments 🥁 haven’t lock anything down since I’ve been with them. MPC is the one ☝🏾 I had to use an iLok for in order to use the MPC software.
So i own an MPC 1000, MPC One, and an MPC 500 (currently being repaired in pieces on my floor so not useable) but i really like the work flow of the 1000, but I'm trying to figure out the One software a little better. I just picked this up for a $100 and it came with a MPK Mini. Thanks to this video I realized I think I can link the 1000 and the One with this little device, this is laid out similar to the 1000 but uses the One software. It's super thin, I don't like using the one in controller mode on my pc so im excited.
MG, thank you for the video. Part of my question would be, would you still recommend the MPC Studio Black in 2023? I ask because I am a newbie, wanting to make boom bap style beats. I will be 100% sample-based and this will only be a hobby for me. I don't want to spend lots of money on the One, Live II or the X. I seriously have been considering the MPC Studio MK2, but I do like having the q link buttons that the Black offers. My only fear is that with all the updates from Akai, that they will phase out the Studio Black and it won't work with the Akai software any longer. Can you share your thoughts on this and help me out? Thank you kindly.
I'm in the same spot as you. I was looking to get into MPCs in 2023...started with iMPC on the phone/ipad, which is pretty cool...but wanted hardware. After researching, picked up a used Studio Black for $200, and using the free MPC Beats software, i'm beyond happy. For what i'm doing, i see no difference in the free MPC Beats and $$$ MPC software. Can't lose.
I will say, it took me a minute to get the studio black installed on modern Mac and PCs...Eventually figured it out, If you need help, i'll post links here.
Nice video! It's true you don't Always need the latest gear. I have a 2000xl, mpc2500 and maschine mk3. I wanna buy the mpc renaissance i don't mind it's not a stand alone and i like it's look. Now i wonder if i buy one and the original software comes with it, let's say the 1.2 or so can then jump straight to update 2.10 (with payment off course for the 2.0) or do i need to update Every other version in between before i can go to 2.0 and then 2.10. Thanks in advance!
What Mac OS does it support? Because I have a MacBook Pro Mid 2012 running MacOS Catalina 10.5.7 & I have Logic Pro X 10.5 & from looking at your video the studio looks better then the Akai MPD 26
The Mpc black is what I start out with it was cool IMO but had minor problems with the screen bugging on me it’s a solid cheaper way to get a Mpc if your on a budget I upgraded to the Mpc one and do not mess this thing I feel like it’s too outdated for 2021 but fasho a solid controller
I still have an MPC Studio (silver) and I wouldn't say it's outdated at all. In fact, I think Akai should discontinue the MPD 226 and make MPC Studio it's flagship controller. I admit that I rarely use my MPC Studio (I more often use my MPC Element) but that's only because I came from FL Studio and get around much faster using the qwerty keyboard and mouse than the buttons on the Studio, but I love the pads, which is why I use my Element more often.
You can do it all ecect capture that MPC HARDWARE SOUND! If ya'll can get any of the older hardware garb it asap! I have the mpc studio and its cool buts know MPC 2000xl etc!
On the mpc software you can click on keys to pads and use 16 typing keys as mpc pads . I literally produced a beat with a 13 inch MacBook on the greyhound bus while traveling lol I guess you can call it a standalone and it’s way smaller than the mpc live and much more powerful.
