I’m happy you guys are appreciative of my transparency with prices. It’s what I would want to know before I moved here and from what I’ve seen, it’s the norm for the places and neighborhoods I was looking at. I guess you now know why I’m not one of those youtubers buying designer stuff all the time.... I’d rather live here. We are all crazy, but we all live here for a reason. It won’t be forever, but for now it’s all worth it :)
Also I appreciate your advice about us moving upstate or outside of the city to buy.... we definitely are aware we can get more for our money haha! We will eventually leave and buy but not now, we enjoy the city.
Fully agree, to each their own luxury. for some is high end clothes, for some it's travels, for some is to live in expensive cities. I live in Paris and I know it's a luxury, highly expensive and that I would have more elsewhere, but it's a luxury I want to offer myself.
This video was amazingly helpful. Love that you included the actual rent prices. I'm looking forward to hearing about your challenges with your current apartment. I think that could be hugely helpful so people know what pitfalls to be on the lookout for when apartment hunting in general 😊
I don’t think anyone wonders why you don’t buy designer stuff all the time. You and pat travel all the time and that obviously costs money. Plus it sounds like your are working on a new project(fingers crossed it’s a fashion line) and I know that costs money too. You and Pat like to put money back into your business and into your experiences. Nothing wrong with that!
Tess talking about starting a family makes me feel so happy(?) like when we've known her for the last 7-ish years and see her mature to the woman she's become makes me feel like we've grown old with her it's 2 am I'll sleep now
Thank u for being transparent about the pricing and ur thought process on how u make the decision. It’s super helpful! Looking fwd to ur next video about problems w ur current place.
I‘m so glad you included the actual price tags on these apartments because it puts things into perspective. I know a lot of people think „UA-cam & Social Media & Marketing isn’t a real job“ but to be able to afford NY you‘ve got no other choice than to work HARD! Congratulations on your new apartment!!! So happy for you guys! This video was really interesting for us as a family as well - we are currently located in Germany but my husband is a US citizen and we have plans to go back for a couple of years at some point and live in the NY area. Thanks for sharing!
I’m seriously so happy for her. Congratulations to you both on getting married! omg.. she’s so grown up now.. I remember watching her when I was still a young girl and looking at her now so mature and just wow.. wish you all the best!!!
Wow, I love you and your authentic work ethic. I admire you more and more. I believe in you, it made me feel good that you said “I will work my way up” because that is the raw truth of life and you were honest, thank you. I will continue to push forward as well beginning university🧡
I don’t have kids but I imagine it would be much easier to have en suite laundry and amenities in the building as well as security? Best of luck finding a place Tess!! And I loved the honeymoon montage 🥰
I love how honest you are about housing prices in brooklyn! Everyone loves to show the glam side of nyc but never talks about how expensive it is! Also, for those shocked about brooklyn prices, Manhattan itself is a lot more expensive for tiny apartments! Best of luck to you both, can’t wait to see your final decision!!!
farley 555 no need to be offensive... im just saying that there are people here who would rather have the possibility of leaving a place rather quickly (e.g. people who tend to move a lot for work) instead of being tied to one place because of property.
More videos pls. What about 1) weekly moving vlog 2) dinner / restaurants in the city to check out 3) get the look for less 4) travel videos 4a) how I pack and plan my vacation outfits 5) closet tour 6) month chat up with me and my girlfriends videos So many ideas I thought I spit out there
Watching videos back, loving it ❤️ when you uploaded this did you know 8 months later you’d be pregnant? 🥺 amazing how 2020 made a lot of changes for people and brought a new perspective and so crazy how things happen! Been following for years and so proud of the life you and Pat have made!
Make more UA-cam videos . Don’t leave us hanging for 3 weeks for a new video . Love to see a closet tour of your current place , more New York guides , those are my favorite . Get the look videos with affordable options . Maybe a $100-150 per look. Lots of your previous get the look have grown to be way out of my budget . I’m
The brownstone is is my favourite. I don't really love modern apartments and I feel like the brownstone has the most charm. Plus that backyard is unheard of in NYC!
Thanks for the transparency Tess! I always love these kinds of videos because it's so interesting to see how apartments vary in different countries. I'm from Central Europe, where you usually own your own washing machine and bring it with you wherever you move, because every apartment has its own water supply / connection for washing machines (usually in old buildings as well - there are exceptions but it would lower the rent significantly). In big apartment buildings you also have an additional washer and dryer room in the basement. But we don't have built in closet space. You might get a walk-in closet in bigger and more upscale apartments (and in newer built single family homes), but closets in the hallway and built in closets in bedrooms, we sadly don't have that for whatever reason. You just bring your own cupboard that has to be put in the room / hallway somewhere and takes away space. Gyms in the building are also non-existent basically. Doormen we don't have at all. Anyway, thanks for showing us some NY apartments, I hope you find the right one for you guys :)
Oh my god... I was listening to you talk about the first apartment and was like oh that place is cute and then you said $4,300 and I died a little inside... I don’t even want to imagine paying that much... omg. For that you can live in one of the more expensive areas of Austin. I really hope it never gets that expensive here 😭❤️ My home is changing so much though.
Lydianna Cirilo she is looking in the more expensive areas. I live in Brooklyn, in a different area, without all the frills for a 2 bedroom I pay 1,500.
but she's also living in some the more expensive neighborhoods in Brooklyn since they're closer to the city, Williamsburg, all the food, bars, nightlife. You can get a 1BR for $1600+ in different neighborhoods, it just depends on your priorities.
People who compare their little towns and cities to New York City which is the epicenter of the world baffles me. Our cost of living is very high but we are paid significantly more than you.
TESS! Thank you for this video. I'm a born New Yorker and it's my dream to live in NYC. I love how helpful you are being so open about the prices. Even living in NY I never had a full idea of what living in the city would be like. So I appreciate this video so much, and I'd love to even see more of these types of videos! Thank you so much!
Tess I’ve watched your videos consistently for soo long (about 6-7 years) & videos like this remind me why I keep watching you. You’re so humble, level headed, real, & sweet!
this is crazy. i live in australia and i just moved out of a 4 bedroom 2.5 bathroom laundry dishwasher backyard house for $400 a month... new york is crazy
I’d really appreciate a video where you just do a q and a about moving to New York! Knowing the ins and outs and advice and tips for moving there would be really helpful.
OMG the prices!!! You could seriously get a huge house with a pool and a little bit of land for the price you're paying in rent. Crazy!!! I love NYC and get why you all love it. I do love to Airbnb in Brooklyn. Some super cute and fun spots. So glad you're back and ready for moving vlogs!
I live in North Vancouver, B.C. and the housing / rental market is also insanely expensive. Our place is around 629 square feet but we love it. You honestly don’t need much room in order to be happy - we love the area that we live in and that’s the biggest thing for us at the end of the day :)
wow I live in Las Vegas and for those prices you can live like royalty here omg that’s crazy ! but thanks for sharing a lot of UA-camrs never do ! can’t wait to keep seeing your journey ♥️♥️
Hey! Ok so I’m aware that you might already know but you’ll for sure LOVE being able to do your laundry close at home once starting a family with a messy baby 👶🏻 🍼
I was so sad when I started watching this video, but by the end of it I was already filled with peace and happiness. You bring that out of everybody Tess.
Love your videos Tess!! I have been following you since 2014, it's amazing how you've grown, not only as a person, but even in the quality of your content which is absolutely beautiful! Love from Italy
Tess I've been watching you since I was in middle school! Now I've finally started my own channel & am so happy to have grown up and be inspired by UA-camrs like you😊
I was whining about my rent going up to $975 😂 I’m on the opposite end of the country though. I always knew New York was expensive, I just didn’t know how much so! Gorgeous apartments you have to choose from....can’t wait to see which you chose! 😍
I’m so excited for you guys and your new chapter 💕. When you move into the new apartment can you please show us how you set up your new closet? Like a closet organization or tour kinda video. I feel like you would have a lot of great tips 🥰
Love this video! Very transparent and helpful to another newlywed In a city. Could you please do a video on your fitness routine at the gym or what classes you may take? This is the first time in forever you’ve mentioned the gym and I’m so curious, you always look so healthy and I would love to hear about your routine!
This video was very helpful & informative especially for people considering the big move to nyc, like me! Lol I really appreciate your honesty & transparency!
It's super interesting to see the price differences all over the country. I'm from Kentucky so we have obviously very different prices. But I love to see it! I love to see how other people live and etc. Thanks for bringing us a long and Hawaii seemed like a dream!
My family rented an apartment in Manhattan for over 50 years, it was rent controlled for less than $1500 and beautiful, but we recently had to give it up. Saw it a few months ago and the price tripled in price! Totally crazy!
I’m gonna keep it real for anybody watching this video and thinking NY is anywhere near $4400 for a nice apartment... I’m not shitting on Tess or telling her she’s wrong, this is a good, informative video and I love her! But please be aware that if you look on Craigslist or Zillow or even Redfin, you can find places that are just as nice as these for much, much less. Without a broker and without the broker fees. I’m talking $3000 for the same exact apartment in a different neighborhood 20 blocks away. Even $3000 for rent can get you a whole lot in Brooklyn. Don’t get me wrong, NY is incredibly expensive. But you can get 3 bedrooms, 2 baths with laundry, a nice kitchen, a patio and all that for much less than what Tess shares in this video. Please be aware that she went through a broker and is looking in some of the most expensive neighborhoods in Brooklyn. Don’t let this deter you from moving or considering NY. Again, not cutting on Tess. She does well for herself and I’m sure this is super exciting, plus those apartments are beautiful! Just know that her method and explanation for apartment hunting reflects her spending power. And that’s great for her! But you can be just as happy in an apartment just as nice for a massive amount less. Like, thousands less. It’s doable! :)
Hey Tess ! I was wondering if you would ever consider doing a video giving tips on traveling, like how you pick places to stay and things to do. I’ve always wanted to travel but I never know where to start or what is the best way to go about it and you seem pretty experienced I’d love a video about it, love ya ! 💕💕💕
I’ve been an OG subscriber and have really enjoyed your content as it has evolved over the years. Thank for sharing so much of your life and experiences. Wishing you the best as you and Pat search for the next place you call Home💕💫
If you plan on having kids in this next apartment ... you absolutely need en-suite laundry. Oh my god I can’t even stress that enough ... you’ll be doing laundry literally every day just going through washcloths, bibs, clothes, etc. Also the “ums”...damn that was a lot. I almost want to go back and watch it again just to count them all haha
Tess' video IS very transparent, but as a native Brooklynite, I must say that you CAN find cheaper two-bedroom apartments in different neighborhoods. Places with dishwasher and laundry included. It depends where in Brooklyn you happen to look and how many "amenities" you're looking for. Central and southern Brooklyn is less up-and-coming/filled with more natives than the areas she's looking at, and you can find 2 bedroom apartments for about half the cost of her range if you're willing to extend your train commute 10-20 minutes. Our market is definitely more costly in NYC than other cities, but there's a wide market available for different needs. Not taking away from any information she provided, just leaving this heads up for those people who aren't from NYC and think we all pay $4k for a one-bedroom.
The um's aren't something I noticed until it was pointed out like crazy in the comments. I appreciate that I feel like you're sitting down and having a conversation rather than it sounding super scripted.
Thank you for being so transparent with pricing etc. ... for someone like me who lives in a 52m²/560 sqft by herself in Austria such prices are literally blowing my mind... like I pay 740€ a month with all expenses such as heat and water included which is considered expensive in the city I live in and wonder how people in cities such as NYC and London manage to get through the month with rent prices like this haha
You're going to be an amazing mommy! Excited for the day you announce you're pregnant🙏 I think my only advice on the housing situation is, I'm a mom of 3 kiddos and it's a must to have an in unit laundry (even with one baby!) I'm serious! Whatever you choose it will be great though!!
Cant believe how expensive it is out there!!! I thought Vancouver was expensive!!!!! Thanks for being so transparent with the prices...just love your style of vlogging.🌸
WOW!! I thought Austin was expensive - for these prices you could afford an apartment in the most expensive building in downtown Austin. I knew NY was expensive but was never actually told real numbers, thanks for sharing!
Sarah Reeder that’s actually Brooklyn, imagine New York City (Manhattan)! For this prices it would be a “one bedroom” tiny ass kitchen, no washer and dryer. NYC is absolutely insane
omg loved this video!!!!! been following you since your first boyfriend tag and its so awesome to see you guys plan your future😍 i vote for the 1st choice just cause i personally like the look/feel of modern/updated of it and also the amenities is awesome to have in unit or in building! however the space on the last one definitely is awesome too also has the feel/look of a house.. and thank you for including the prices also!!! were in the seattle area and thought that almost at least 2k monthly apartments are crazy but this proved me wrong lol! goodluck on the hunt tho!! im with you on that one, shopping to decorate is definitely the best part! 😂
This was so insightful! I am from Switzerland and plan on living in NY for a while after I have graduated and worked a bit and this helped me a lot to know how much I have to calculate for an apartment. I loved the last space!
shocked the 3rd unit was actually my favorite. I wasn't a fan of the updated units from that new cool trendy place. I say keep looking and I suggest looking for places with laundry not in unit but in the building as communal instead.
I just went to Hawaii with my sister in December and recognized so many of the places in your clips, brought back good memories. I'm glad you two were able to go and enjoy that time together. And yes thank you for sharing your apartment hunting experience! I live in California (not that it's much cheaper) and have no intention of living in New York but found it super interesting to see different places you guys are looking at. I presume buying a place is out of the question but it seems like it'd be better in the long run given the cost of renting D: Regardless, I'm excited to see what place you guys choose and how you make into your own style (and perhaps start a family in ^_^)
I work in fidi manhattan and live in Jersey City in a parlor level 1800’s era brownstone, marble fireplaces, molding, everything- only $2700. My commute is 15 min. Can’t get over how expensive Brooklyn is for the same units!
I love love love all your vlog & weekend in my life videos!!! I used to watch your get the look videos all the time. It’s be soooo cool if you brought those back, but did get the looks for characters from rom coms like A Walk to Remember, She’s the Man, To All the Boys, etc.
rewatching this post corona/quarantine and its so funny when she said "you wouldnt need a home office if you didnt work from home but you can go a little crazy" and literally a month later we're all working from home 😭also so lucky that you got the appt with the gym right before this all started!
Can I ask what you pay for your current place? Thanks ♥️
I’m so happy with you sharing actual numbers when it comes to apartment hunting, transparency is amazing and it is so helpful!!
Remember how Dan Humphrey was poor and lived in Brooklyn.
And had a pretty big appartment too
he wasn’t poor, the other characters were just really rich
Andrea 454 That was the joke.
Tess talking about starting a family makes me feel so happy(?) like when we've known her for the last 7-ish years and see her mature to the woman she's become makes me feel like we've grown old with her
it's 2 am I'll sleep now
Almost like youre her actual friend in rl.
I say move into the first building with the security and extra amenities. The workspace and gym is a huge bonus!
With a family in mind, a washer/dryer would be essential! As a new mom, I can tell you the laundry accumulates extremely quickly.
Thanks for sharing!
i remember when you and pat moved to new york so when u said it's been 5 years i was SHOOK!! it's been a crazy fun journey with u guys
I live in a basement apartment near your area, don’t do it!! Definitely more risk for bugs, dark, flooding etc. good luck!!
I will continue to push forward as well beginning university🧡
thank you so much for telling us the prices! a lot of youtubers omit that detail and it's the most important one lol
I don’t have kids but I imagine it would be much easier to have en suite laundry and amenities in the building as well as security? Best of luck finding a place Tess!! And I loved the honeymoon montage 🥰
your long hair brings back college Tess i love it! ahhhh❤❤
Ughhh your Hawaii clips gave me all the feels 💗
I love how honest you are about housing prices in brooklyn! Everyone loves to show the glam side of nyc but never talks about how expensive it is! Also, for those shocked about brooklyn prices, Manhattan itself is a lot more expensive for tiny apartments! Best of luck to you both, can’t wait to see your final decision!!!
$4k a month?! that's actually insane, holy shit.
Right😱 i start complaining when something is around €1200 a month
I know it was a shock for me 😂 In Greece normal costs for a big apartment are 600-900 euros max per month 😂
That’s more than my mortgage in LA. 😳😲
farley 555 not everyone wants to own - to some people, flexibility is key. What works for you does not necessarily work for everyone.
farley 555 no need to be offensive... im just saying that there are people here who would rather have the possibility of leaving a place rather quickly (e.g. people who tend to move a lot for work) instead of being tied to one place because of property.

1) weekly moving vlog
2) dinner / restaurants in the city to check out
3) get the look for less
4) travel videos
4a) how I pack and plan my vacation outfits
5) closet tour
6) month chat up with me and my girlfriends videos
So many ideas I thought I spit out there
THANK YOU for sharing the prices of the places you toured. It makes the video much more useful to those of us thinking of moving to NYC. :)

did anyone else start tearing up during the honeymoon clips?? you both look so so so SO happy 😭
Thanks for the transparency Tess!

I love the little honeymoon recap, it's so cute ❤
I will (hopefully!) be moving to my first own apartment in May, so please please please do as many decorating videos as possible!!! ❤️
I live in North Vancouver, B.C. and the housing / rental market is also insanely expensive. Our place is around 629 square feet but we love it. You honestly don’t need much room in order to be happy - we love the area that we live in and that’s the biggest thing for us at the end of the day :)
Haha hello fellow Vancouverite! Looking for a place now. 540 square feet for 560,000$ 😬😫
Sigh. Same
wow I live in Las Vegas and for those prices you can live like royalty here omg that’s crazy ! but thanks for sharing a lot of UA-camrs never do ! can’t wait to keep seeing your journey ♥️♥️
Seriously! Not even nicer houses in Summerlin or Southern Highlands are that price!

I love the honeymoon recap! You look so healthy and happy!
I wish I could even make 4k a month, i can only wish!
Loved the brownstone!!!!
I personally would take the last unit before the first one. Sure a gym and security ist a plus, but for me nothing is better than a garden.
It's super interesting to see the price differences all over the country. I'm from Kentucky so we have obviously very different prices. But I love to see it! I love to see how other people live and etc. Thanks for bringing us a long and Hawaii seemed like a dream!

Oh how I love a good moving and decorating vlog
Start at the basement and work my way up... truly reminded me of parasite
i absolutely love your honesty in this video :) so excited to see which one you and pat pick!!!
Time flies, so happy for you two good luck!
I'm crying of happiness for you two ❤
The um's aren't something I noticed until it was pointed out like crazy in the comments. I appreciate that I feel like you're sitting down and having a conversation rather than it sounding super scripted.
Ahhh!! Can’t wait to see you build a new home and all that comes with it!!😍👏🏼
Thank you for being so transparent with pricing etc. ... for someone like me who lives in a 52m²/560 sqft by herself in Austria such prices are literally blowing my mind... like I pay 740€ a month with all expenses such as heat and water included which is considered expensive in the city I live in and wonder how people in cities such as NYC and London manage to get through the month with rent prices like this haha
Also sis was glowing throughout the entire video🤩☺️🥺😍✨
This is like a mini house hunters episode! Can you guys add a washer and dryer to the basement brownstone? A private garden for a baby is perfect.
I can't believe how pricey it is NY, i really love all the apartments 💕💕
I love your hair long, it's
so pretty on you
Take a shot every time Tess says “umm” lmaoo love you
So excited to see which one you picked and for the moving vlogs!
i’m a student at pratt and i had no idea you lived in fort green!! i love when my fav youtubers are new yorkers 🥺❤️
This was so insightful! I am from Switzerland and plan on living in NY for a while after I have graduated and worked a bit and this helped me a lot to know how much I have to calculate for an apartment.
I loved the last space!
We were in park slope with kiddos which was a great spot for them- just moved to westchester co though which is easy commute
shocked the 3rd unit was actually my favorite. I wasn't a fan of the updated units from that new cool trendy place. I say keep looking and I suggest looking for places with laundry not in unit but in the building as communal instead.
Loved this entire video ahhhh so many exciting things happening for you!! Also I'm dying to know what your lip color is!!
Holy moly! Can't believe those rent prices! Looking forward to your decorating videos.
Can't wait to see where you guys end up. Good luck finding your perfect next home!!!!! 🥰
The brownstone is my favorite!!!!
Fellow New Yorker here and honestly, the rent is ABSURD! But, I don’t know if I can live any where outside a city.
I presume buying a place is out of the question but it seems like it'd be better in the long run given the cost of renting D: Regardless, I'm excited to see what place you guys choose and how you make into your own style (and perhaps start a family in ^_^)
I used to live in south slope and it was the best! I loved having Prospect Park as my front yard 😍💓
All are beautiful! Traveled to NYC solo in August and can not wait to go back!!! 💕
I feel like you and Pat will go with the last apartment! But I love the apartments with the security and package room.
Missed you so much guys
Take a shot every time Tess says "um".
Drink every time Tess says "UM."😅
LOVE YOU TESS! 💗💗
Wow when i lived in Midwood - Brooklyn 15 years ago my 2-bedroom was $1,200 a month. Looking forward to more of your apartment hunting videos.
I work in fidi manhattan and live in Jersey City in a parlor level 1800’s era brownstone, marble fireplaces, molding, everything- only $2700. My commute is 15 min. Can’t get over how expensive Brooklyn is for the same units!
I love you guys so much. I just wish you would post more 😭😭😭
Oh my god you’ve been in that apartment 3 years?? Time flies!! Xo
I am moving to nyc and I’m so excited about it! I would love it if you could make more videos about what it is like to live in nyc!
I love love love all your vlog & weekend in my life videos!!! I used to watch your get the look videos all the time. It’s be soooo cool if you brought those back, but did get the looks for characters from rom coms like A Walk to Remember, She’s the Man, To All the Boys, etc.
Thank you for giving the prices!! So much more interesting and helpful!
rewatching this post corona/quarantine and its so funny when she said "you wouldnt need a home office if you didnt work from home but you can go a little crazy" and literally a month later we're all working from home 😭also so lucky that you got the appt with the gym right before this all started!
