    DESCRIPTION
    Welcome to HowFixit! In this video, I'll take you through a step-by-step guide on how to disassemble MacBook Pro 2019 (model A2141) laptop, clean its fans, and replace the thermal paste. Our comprehensive tutorial will equip you with the knowledge of fixing laptop overheating issues. From disassembling your laptop to cleaning the fan and heatsink from dust and applying thermal paste, we've got you covered. Say goodbye to overheating and hello to improved performance!
    * Laptop Disassembly Guide:
    Disassembling your laptop may seem daunting, but I'll break it down into easy-to-follow steps. You'll learn how to remove the laptop's casing, locate and clean the heatsink and fans, and access to CPU for thermal paste replacement. By following this guide, you'll gain a deeper understanding of your laptop's internals and how to keep it running smoothly.
    * Fan Cleaning Techniques:
    Dust and debris can accumulate in your laptop's fans and heatsink over time, leading to reduced airflow and increased temperatures. I'll show you effective methods to clean your laptop using an antistatic brush and proper handling techniques. By keeping your cooling system clean, you'll prevent overheating and extend the lifespan of your laptop.
    * Thermal Paste Replacement:
    Thermal paste plays a crucial role in transferring heat from the laptop's CPU and GPU to the heatsink. However, over time, a thermal paste can dry out and lose its effectiveness. I'll guide you through the process of removing the old thermal paste and applying a fresh, high-quality one. This step is vital for optimal heat dissipation and temperature management. Don't let an overheating laptop slow you down! Watch this comprehensive guide and take control of your laptop's temperature. By performing regular fan cleaning and thermal paste replacement, you'll ensure smooth operation, prevent hardware damage, and extend the life of your laptop. Hit the play button now and let's get started!

    The most thorough guide on the procedure I managed to find!
    However, I'd like to notice few things:
    1) The motherboard is fixed by t3 and t5 screws, which is not quite covered in the video, might leave some viewers puzzled;
    2) As I see, the right (left on the screen, since the laptop is upside down) speaker is a little scuffed, and I know why: the magnet in it is so strong that it can easily pull the tweezers/screwdriver in it. So anyone who's attempting to fix thermal issues - be aware. If the scuff is small, like in the video - sound would barely change, however, things might get much worse.
    Anyway, thanks a lot for this guide; replacing the certified crispy stone-like toothpaste to pretty old and cheap MX-2 did the trick for me.

    Well worth it. 3.5 hours to complete. Macbook is near silent / silent now. I used Thermal Grizzley Kryonaut paste $30, liberally applied with the included spatula spreader applicator. Interestingly, the fan is now quieter even when running at the same RPM. I guess a dust caked fan is louder? I'm a previous computer repair tech (20 years ago), I had all of the appropriate tools. Bottom line, I was lucky it booted back up. So many things could've gone wrong. Dozens of tiny connectors need to be perfect. I highly recommend the magnetic mat. The phillips head screws in the fan were seized and I needed to clean the fan with a brush and 60psi compressed air, after it was removed from the computer. Beware if you're not comfortable working wit tiny parts, maybe recruit a nerd's help. Thanks How-FixIT!

    • @logaandm
      @logaandm Рік тому +5

      @@btx47 I just replaced my thermal paste (after three years). A pretty good improvement. The old paste was dried out and needed to be replaced. Apple uses OK thermal paste, but for the cost of the machines and all how hot Apple engineers them to run, they really should be using better paste.
      I suggest using Thermal Grizzly Extreme. It is very good thermal paste and it lasts a long time. I have other laptops I put thermal grizzly on more than two years ago and they are still fine. Taking out the logic board is not easy and the fragile cables are easily damaged so you might as well use the best thermal paste you can so this isn't something you do often.

    I suggest that with the fan cables and some of the other cables to use slightly sticky tape and tape the cables into a less awkward position prior to putting the logic board back in.
    Sadly, I damaged one of the fan cables the first time and I had to take out the logic board again to replace it a week later when I got the new part. All is good now, but with all the fragile cables that need to be attached this can be a frustrating process.

    Hi! I have a 2019 MacBook Pro 16” that just completely died on me 3 days ago, exactly to the date that I received it as a gift 2 years ago. After reading about other people that this happened to, I am guessing it might be a logic board issue. A $600 issue.
    In your professional opinion,
    is it worth it to disassemble to clean the fan, clean out the dust, disconnect and reconnect the battery, etc. to see if it could be such a simple fix?
    Additionally, how in the world can I save (transfer) the data on my hard drive, if those things don’t work, and Apple has to replace my logic board?

      Hey guy! I have the same issue. Did you fix it yet?

      @KAShaibi Рік тому +1

      @@inhtrung6678 yes I did. I can’t remember exactly what I did though since it was ~2 months ago. Try connecting your laptop to the charger and turning it on. Might’ve been what I did to fix the issue.

    I lost a CPU Flexures screw and I'm in Italy, the cheapest screw I could find was in the US at 40 dollars included shipment... Anyone can give me a help??
    VERY IMPORTANT: When you unscrew the Heatsink screws ALWAYS keep down the little iron flexures guys, they will snap and let your screws fly away... I learned the hard way, I hope you don't have to :c

      After two weeks, the screw arrived. I did everything once again, and when I opened my computer it booted up, the Apple logo showed... then nothing. Only the Apple logo. I tried to access recovery, nothing. I tried to reset PRAM, SMC and NVRam, but nothing, the only thing that happens is that the apple logo appears, then nothing...

    None of the links to the tools/parts/thermal paste seems to work. They all resolve to some dog on an Amazon landing page, saying "Oops, something went wrong!" Can you provide updated links, or at least P/Ns for everything? UPDATE: they seem to work now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Thought I’d just open the bottom cover up and apply the thermal paste with limited “engineering”. I’ll pass. 😂
