It's crazy to think about how a young Havoc could listen to those samples and take the tiniest part and slow the pitch down a bunch and completely turns it into a dark, menacing hip hop beat! That takes talent.. to switch up a semi happy sounding piano progression and slow it down and flip it like that!
Alchemist produced Shook Ones Part II? Never. It’s definitely a Havoc joint. He used that exact style of slowing down pianos on other productions too. He even talks in interviews about how he got the Herbie Hancock record from Prodigy’s granddad and how he slowed it down to sound like a bass.
DJ Premier…. All the pianos in the 90s was all Premier. Or Large Professor. Havoc didn’t produce back in that day. He does now yes but had nothing to do with Mobb Deep production in reference to their music here in this video.
@@DJFurio Quincy Jones has co-writing credits on almost every track. The Herbie Hancock sample from what I’ve heard via PB Wolf (I have a family member signed to stones throw/Warner) was Quincy Jones suggestion. I’m pretty sure the drum break was a Quincy Jones track on Shook One’s. Not positive but, yeah Quincy Jones played a big part on that entire album. There’s another famous jazz standard artist I’m missing that played a part on that album so, idk, it’s possible it was cleared but, that’s pre 2006 so who knows. You have an incredible channel man. Subbed. Really cool breakdown’s, amazing editing as well💯🫡✌️!!!
I read in an interview with Havoc that he got the Herbie Hancock record from Prodigy’s grandad and he just started playing around with it to see what he could come up with. Who knows the real version.
Havok doesn't seem to come up in people's "Top 5" nearly enough as far as producers go especially when it comes to sampling. I fully understand the sampling part though. The way he chopped, flipped, and tuned you'd be forgiven for thinking it wasn't a sample at all. Lol. I mean with what he did he shouldn't have to clear some of those samples. Lol. This was AMAZING!! Thanks for posting. Historical videos like these are always welcome. Thanks for posting. Glad I stumbled here, so now I gotta check out the rest of the channel.
Yeah Havoc is an amazing producer. And he was so young when that first Mobb Deep album dropped too. Thanks for watching. I hope you enjoy the rest of my channel. I’ve made so many sample videos over the years.
Name any iconic beat made by havoc in 21st century. He is a very limited producer, all he knows is to sample slow down piano records. That MobbDeep album is a certified classic, but havoc definitely reached his limit there. That's why he is nowhere near top5 lists.
@@sypialnia_studio Well time or not it's the innovation and dedication I was speaking to. He wasn't simply just "lowering piano beats" which is a feat within itself given the technological limitations of the time. He was very young creating tone and atmosphere for the projects he made. I'm curious who IS in this "Top 5" and how do they meet the criteria?
Damn! The research and editing on the music is already friggin excellent! But the craziness of the dancing clips was a very weird and beautiful icing on the cake!! Absolutely made my day! Thank you!
Yo a lot of these are crazy! RIP one of the best jazz pianist Ahmad Jamal🙏🏾 i was also kinda hoping either Selfish by Slum Village or The Food by Common would be on here. Great list regardless
I nearly used Selfish but I used the other Kanye and John legend track instead. It’s actually hard to try and think of hip hop tracks with pianos and not worry I’ve missed out something really obvious.
Just rewatched this video and completely missed the message about Ahmad Jamal! Rest in Peace to a Jazz Icon! So many inspirations for Hip Hop producers.

Well well here we go again old school piano 🎹 mixing sampling with the best hip hop era in late 80's,90's and beyond bring back old school memories. You can't fake the funk of the old school flavor when you first heard the piano playing it's a classic and now with hip hop joined together with the sounds of piano it makes it more fun to listen to. Hip hop sound of music brings to any light 🕯️ when it's comes new sampling in the mix. 😊
Man this made me grateful of the technology we have today and the free accessibility to whatever music we like. It would be so harder to do what I do 20 years prior to today, or many more
@@DJFurio and also to flip samples, we got so much software and hardware nowadays while what they had back when was samplers like the mpc without showing the waveforms (harder to be on time)
Havoc is a beast. Being a great producer is not simply about technical skill, it's also about having an incredible ear to hear things others wouldn't. It's also the ability to create a feeling in ones self and a mood for ones space. Havoc is excellent at using minimal sounds that illicit maximum feeling.
Only because I just showed the sample on a really recent video and didn’t want to repeat things. Same with the piano from Stakes Is High by De La Soul.
