Not to be nitpicky, but Ilia fell on his quad Lutz, not the 4A. Also he just turned 20, so he's not a teenager anymore. Time flies! The men's event was messy all around.
One moment I thought was so adorable not shown in this video was the camaraderie and sportsmanship of the Japanese ladies since they did Amber’s ending pose together when she saw that she won. It’s everything we needed after the 2022 Olympics. I love seeing the women uplift each other!
Omg Paola posted!! I wish you would've talked about Mikhail Shaidorov who landed a quad as the second jump in his combination before Ilia did. Also Ilia didn't fall on the 4A, he fell on the lutz which was still surprising. Still so glad you talked about this comp!
Absolutely! He also performed not one, but two combinations with a quad as a second jump (three times in total) - 3A-4T in China and in France, and then 3A-Eu-4S at the Finals
Yes, and all those sweet moments, like when Misha hugged the flower girl who was carrying a teddy bear nearly twice her size, and the audience was SOLD! Then there was the audience's reaction to his free skate scores-those “boos” when they didn’t agree with the result really stood out!
It’s even more impressive when you consider that he wasn’t originally supposed to be in the final-he was just the first alternate. I didn’t know him until this season, but I’m already a huge fan. Misha just comes across as such a genuinely nice guy. And his programs? I absolutely love them! Especially the way he makes faces and interacts with the audience during his performances-it really adds to his charm. While there’s still a lot for him to refine, I can definitely see the incredible potential in his skating
What I love and admire so much about Ilia is how he doesn't let mistakes and falls get to him. He doesn't let them affect him. If he falls, he leaves it in the past and keeps going. His second costume had me on a chokehold. I couldn't look away. It's so beautiful and so dramatic. I love it!!!
You really should watch the other GPs, they were exciting, especially NHK. Also I'm so disappointed you didn't talk about Rino Matsuke, she has two of the best programs this season.
maybe I'm just biased because I love christopher tin, but I am such a huge fan of rino matsuike's free program. it's just so ethereal and she embodies the music so well
Daniel jump were SO closed to the boardssss, even more shocking irl, I legit thought he was going to hit it each time. MIND YOU the boards were actual light screens in Grenoble, my friend and I were scared he would break it at some point 🤣
Ok sorry, how do you SKIP MISHA. He made history. Landed the first 3A quad toe in his earlier assignments, and landed the 3A eu 4S here. If you only focus on the same skaters over and over they'll all eventually retire and you'll have none of the young guard to talk about or who your viewers are invested in Kevin - as entertaining as he is, I'm extremely mixed on him because of how he supported his coaches during that SA scandal - Also, this isn't only his home country, its his home rink Grassl - its not just ugly it is bad technique. - his free is also bad. The VoiceOver says 'point' and he doesn't point The ice was really bad at this competition, which is why everyone struggled I love both of Yuma's programs this season Also Yuma beat Ilia in the free Also, I don't know if you noticed, but Ilia was singing through the entire program, his short is from his favorite artist If you've watched Ilia compete the rest of the season, it was absolutely clear that he was tired here and struggling. His skating skills regressed in his free, and it was much more of a jumping fest. Besides, when he got off the ice he shook his head at his dad. We knew Ilia was planning something (and I think its more than just the 6 different types of quads in a single program, my bet was on a 4+4 combo now that Misha landed a 3+3 combo) and it didn't turn out because his jumps were way shakier than they normally are. Go look at the protocol, every single jumping element was in red. Also, Ari is just totally wrong. The ISU has been rewarding tech over artistry for a long time. Huge part of why Yuzu retired from competitions and went pro. And male dancers aren't ballerinos, they are danseurs And how can you not talk about the rest of the women and only start in fourth? Disservice to Rino and Hana honestly, especially Rino who is just gorgeous but people don't talk about much. I think that different programs help push Kaori to be better. I think not staying with only your strengths is good to not be complacent Mone may be newer, but she won four continents last season and was high at worlds as well I really enjoy Mone, I hope she switches coaches because she's with the Eteri of Japan, Mie Hamada, right now. US Nats is going to be a bloodbath. Japanese nats too, but those always are
paula doesn’t really put any effort into her research and apparently watches these events with her eyes clothes before making a video and ends up including a bunch of wrong and/or incomplete info. don’t trust the technical things she says lol
Personal (unpopular?) opinions : - Shun’s SP costume is genius with the vertical pleats as reference to lavender fields - Rino Matsuike has one of the best FS of the season amongst women (in terms of composition) sad you didn’t mention herrr - Yuma’s music choices this season are not it (especially compared to last season) - Mone Chiba is the rightful winner of the SP - Ilia’s score was fair seing as most if not all his jumps were underrotated
The tech panel was really strict here and I honestly think the scoring was fair. I was really surprised at how much they noticed. They called every under-rotation, edge call, etc.
I really like your comments but why did you skip the main controversy of the event: The scoring of Mikhail Shaidorov! The crowd booed loudly once his scores were announced because he was so underscored. It was the first time I saw this happening in a figure skating competition and rightfully so….
Ilia is really killing it And so so proud of Amber! I honestly can't believe 2 America won! I'm proud of them. Especially bc the sport has been kinda struggling in the usa compared to the heights of the 90s and early 2000s Also congrats to Choke and Bate who defended their grand prix crown!
Ilia nailed the 4Axel perfectly... And then fell on the next jump a 4Lutz. I think now with 20 years, it's a bit harder to recover after nailing his quaxel.
I'm all in for Amber now. Best half-season of her career and it could go on. But before Worlds in Boston, she has a US National title to defend in Wichita. And she can do it. She believes. And we believe.
I'm so happy Amber's finally performing to her capabilities and being on a winning streak so far. She still needs to improve her PCS scores and maybe up her technical content to be neck and neck with Kaori at her best, but scoring in the 140s again is a confidence booster for her. She should probably do a 3Lo + 3T instead of a solo 3Lo in the 2nd half of her free to add the extra points as well as adding a 2T to her opening triple axel. Considering Kaori's GOEs and PCS scores are much higher, Amber will need to improve on both aspects in order to beat Kaori even if she hits. I can't wait to see what she can do in Nationals, Worlds and possibly 4 Continents. Provided she does what she's capable of, she's well within shot of a world medal
@@FigureNastics I was gonna suggest that too, just like how Aliona Kostornaia did in her 2019-2020 season. But Amber probably shouldn't push too hard in one go and just go bit by bit, which was why I mentioned doing a 3A + 2T and adding the 3T to her 2nd 3Lo. Considering that she's already complaining of pain, that puts less strain on her body whilst still adding up the points
The fact you had nothing to say about Rino was rather disappointing. She has one of the most beautiful free programs and she's definitely been one of the surprises this season.
what do yall think about ilias scores in the free? from the score sheet I’m looking at, he attempted 7 quads and none of them were fully rotated. Every single one had an underrotation or a q
It was the best Grand Prix for the USA in a long time. USA won almost everything!! I think Japan just got gold in Women’s Junior, and that was it, so shocking. USA won almost everything else, it was amazing. But I’m getting worried now, I’m saving for Boston, my dream is watching a competition live but is just getting harder and more expensive. I need to go to Boston!!! I’ll sell my soul to go there, lol!
I have watched Mone all season Her outside edge is amazing .She is very consistent and she is young but WOW .Her Short program is my favorite .I think her skating skills are very good actually .She has a wonderful future she is fun to watch .Team Japan is just amazing
After this FGP, I know who are my favorites now. Not surprise they are all Japanese. Yuma and Mone are so good, just not technically but the skating skills, performance.
15:27 Ari is armenian. What are you talking about?? And he was right by the way. The scores were way too low. They judged Malinin as if all his jumps were under rotated, which isn’t true
