I've got a 2014 with the factory adjustable shocks. But I appreciate videos like this as they give you the same idea on how to replace them in the future.

Vanilla Gorilla just so you know shocks like these are vastly superior to the premium shocks that come on the Rushmore touring bikes like yours. In order for Harley to give the Road Glide and Street Glide that slammed look they basically shortened the shocks by an inch. Without including the rubber bump stop the travel is roughly an inch and a half which is why they bottom out so easily. The Progressive shocks with their compensator spring design let u order the 13 inch shock (as opposed to the stock 12 inch). You get 3 inches plus of travel AND maintain the STOCK ride height.

I had to put mine on with the piston facing down or the bag would rub on the shock. To each their own. Riding a 2012 street glide drop frame kit, so that might be the reason. Good video

  • @Yellowshock
    @Yellowshock 6 років тому +4

Ryan, the only thing I would add is the horizontal alignment of the shock: Harley swingarms are not well squared to the frame and bolting the Progressives in there, despite their instructions stating you can, can destroy the shocks pretty quickly. I speak from experience: did the exact install and followed the manual. A mere 15K miles later the shocks were toast. When sending them in to Progressive they confirmed that the out-of aligment of the swingarm was what did them in. So when I reinstalled I used washers to fill the gap between bottom and top bolt on each side. Notable difference in performance and now, another 25K later, they are still great. Not saying you should always, but now your bike and don't let the shocks deal with forces they weren't built for.

I changed out the suspension on my 2015 Sportster, I did both the forks and rear and it made a world of difference. I have a 2015 Street Glide Special now the same color as Ryan's I want to change out the suspension on it as well but I feel installing the Fork Monotube kit might be beyond my abilities. The rear is as about a simple upgrade as you can do but the forks are a bit involved and I want to add the chrome kit at the same time. The fork monotone kit is worth the upgrade it got rid of that spongy soft ride on my Sportster and it made a huge difference in the handling in the corners and no more front end dive when breaking.

I enjoyed the installation and explanation! Kudos!
So, if you install these things on your bike and feel that the bike is too stiff or is bottoming out, I’m assuming that’s because they didn’t do the sitting/bounce test to measure and adjust the sag. Right?
I’m considering these same shocks to put on my RG. Everywhere I look, you have happy customers and then you have people who complain about the rough ride in the reviews. Probably 95% are happy with them.

Something we should know it the total Sag also is intended to include and sag that occurs when you set the full weight bike back on the rear tire, then have the load applied to measure for your target sag. Kinda strange to see use of an impact driver on the jack..I was waiting for a referee to jump in an call "unnecessary roughness" call you guys!

I want to go with the 944's but I'm a 200lb rider and GF is around 150 would you recommend the standard or should I go standard/heavy duty? Thanks she goes on the weekends with me and I'm looking for something I don't have to adjust everytime she wants to ride.

I would have to move the bottom of that shock back 3 holes on a lowering kit so that I could touch the ground, I'm 5'7, 320lbs, and my inseam is 26 inches, I'm contemplating Burley 10.5 slammers, what are your thoughts on this, can they be adjusted for decent ride comfort ?

wouldnt sag be adjusted by the rate of the spring ? when you adjust the shock the way you are it adjusts the ride height . yes it sits lower when the rider is on it but it sits lower when the bike is empty too by the same amount . also if your adjusting the jack to put shocks on side to side the alignment of the bike needs attention before you kill those super expensive shocks . your making one work harder than the other

We put them on per the instructions. They are for the Street Glide, so I assume they will lower and Ultra by one inch. I would suggest contacting Progressive and seeking their input.

I'm really very curious about the 900 series. I love the legend and other fancy brands but I just feel I should not have to spend so much to get a smooth ride in the city, better turning and no bottoming out over the Stock Street Glide Air. What's your long term experience with these? Thinking about a progressive front kit as well.

Very disappointed, just installed these on my 14 SGS to make it ride smoother because the stock shocks gave such a harsh ride. The shop tech said they take 500 miles to “break in” I don’t believe it. What do you say? The bike rides so harsh I’m seriously considering just selling the bike. I bought the SGS to do long road trips but I can’t ride this thing more than 30 minutes and my back and butt are killing me.

Did you buy the stiffer ones? There are two versions.

Ryan Urlacher Hi, I bought the Progressive 944 Ultras I told the shop technician I was wanting a recommendation for shocks to give me the smoothest/softest ride.

Ryan Urlacher The receipt doesn’t say which version just 944 Ultra Touring but I’m guessing that they are the heavy duty ones instead of standard.

david buchanan Thanks for the reply, I’ve decided to sell the bike I’m frustrated and tired of trying to make it work for me already spent too much money trying to fix it.
This bike is only suited for riding around town on smooth streets.
