Landrace strains are cultivars that have naturalized to a locality, and which have bred unhampered to create a homogenous variety, acclimatized to the local environment.
That's why landraces have names that are place names.
Ruderalis means 'escaped from cultivation', and the ruderalis we know of today escaped at northern latitudes, and mutated towards autoflowering as a survival trait.
Very recently, autoflowering cultivars have been found the world over, where the plant is pressured to complete a life cycle by short seasons.
Autoflowers in their natural habitat can be Landrace strains, like the autoflowers found in Siberia. They are naturally on their way to being landrace plants.
Psychoactive cannabis, when gone ruderalis, or 'escaped from cultivation', goes back to it's wild state and becomes hemp, because the psychoactive cultivars are the result of recessive genetics.
They display randomly from hemp populations.
I personally know of, due to knowing all the people involved, a landrace strain of cannabis grown in a portion of Virginia, that was the result of a government hemp production program. The old man growing the hemp found several psychoactive plants and his sons bred them together to create a strain of cannabis everyone liked and which they sold for over a decade commercially on the black market when people found out what they had. They grew it out faithfully selecting parent plants for then next season from a big field of plants.
A few years of bad (careless) breeding and the strain was lost forever, but I still hear people mention it years later.
A landrace shouldn't have to be managed, but if it is acclimatized to an area from long periods of cultivation and breeds true, it qualifies for the badge.
Almost always however, when people use the word landrace, they are referring to long season plants that produce much less than today's popular hybrids.
Older smokers remember fondly the flavors and tastes that existed in cannabis before it became necessary to grow cannabis that had no smell, grew fast, and had chunky bag appeal.
Todays strains are the result of breeding programs that should never have happened.

Absolutely correct these breeding programs have been an abomination. I only smoke landrace and will continue until the day I die. The levels of THC in modern cannabis are making people retarded. I don't think it is even safe anymore and research in the future will probably prove my conjecture.

Being in europe I know "Wild Thailand" from World of seeds and I think it is my very favorite of all time. (Tested many sativas and hybrids) Grown it for 3rd time now (indoors only possible). After a long 4 weeks+ of curing a super fruity sour smell comes out from what was pretty low terps before. It reminds me even of sparkling whine smell. And its very strong. Not for the day if you want to do anything though its very psychedelic and dreamy (not sleepy!). They say it came from Ko Chang.

The original Lambsbread was not an auto flower, auto flowers did not appear until the late 90s early 2000s when any strain could be combined with a ruederalis strain that flowers automatically without going thru a vegetative phase. Nothing wrong with auto flowering strains, the effect is basically the same its just faster method of growing, the yields are less since the plants do not get very large before they are fully matured.

Isn't this a reupload? Alright well let's talk about true landraces. A good majority of the strains here are not true land races but hybrids of true land races. Good examples here are Hindu Kush and Afghan Kush which is a cross of two indian landraces. Lambs breath is which is a cross of a Jamaican landrace and ruderalis. True land races will typically be named by the region they are from but more particularly the village or valley they are from as it describes the environment that shaped the strain.

Another important thing to note is the fact that is a real true American tragedy. That no one really knows or can only speak of legend of the old American land race strains. Since the prohibition on cannabis. Shortly followed by a sweep to kill off all traces of the plant in America. The thing is people can talk about how good the weed was but do they really even know. Since no one up until the late 90s ever took the time to properly dry and cure cannabis. So who knows what American land race strains have been lost. I guess America shall always be known for the place where cannabis is reborn again and again and reached it's fullness and perfection. True Amsterdam did have coffee shops of weed. But they too never tried curing it like we do now until the early 90's but it was American culture that took over all known cannabis strains as our own were lost to the sands of time.

I’m on the easy coast of NSW, Australia, and I’m growing 2 ABC/Mongo Weed indoor under a 100w full spectrum UFO. My understanding of the ABC (Australian bastard cannabis) is that it’s a ruderalis, and has been crossed in the past quite a bit but bred back several times also, and there is a lot of confusion between mongo and abc also. They both look the same give or take, and absolutely awesome in that they don’t look like cannabis one bit. My 2 have their first couple of true leaves, and are leaning heavily on the abc look. Very unusual looking strain. But who knows. I’m also under the impression the abc was a landrace of Australia? I’m not 100% myself, and have tried looking for information only to be met with the same stuff I’ve read before and with no answers or explanation. Anyhow happy growing and smoking :) :) 🤘✌️🤘💥🤘💥🪴🌱🪴🌱

    3 things,
It's lambsbread, not lamb's breath or lamb's beard. It is the bread of the lamb of god jesus christ i.e. it is the body of christ or the communion, similar to a communion wafer in church.
2nd true jamaican plants are not autoflowering, they are tropical sativas with a very weak flowering response which puts them at the absolute opposite end of photoperiod sensitivity spectrum from "autoflowering" or day neutral plants
And third thing is the effect, it doesn't make you feel like everything is gonna be alright, it's racy, psychedelic, stimulating, and even frightening sometimes

I think thai stick should be no1. Just my opinion. Also columbian punta rojo and columbian gold should have made the list. Just sayin. They were staple bag weed for years. Still good to this day.
