Any engine the more RPMs you turn the more fuel you burn and more wear and tear. Example my 2004 Dodge diesel cummins 6 speed manual transmission 8,200 lb diesel 2500 truck gets 42.5 miles to the gallon with cruise and AC on. But the catch is I'm only driving 40 through 44 miles per hour. If I run Interstate speed around 75 miles per hour it gets about 11 miles to the gallon and the truck is all stock down to the tires no engine tuner for me. And if you go faster than 75 miles per hour it will get even worse fuel mileage. Any vehicle the best fuel mileage is at an idle in your highest gear going down the road. And all of these fuel tests are actual measured fuel test not computer generated.
@@jlo13800 What makes you think that these engines are 2 stroke? These are Audi/VW engine long blocks, V-8 4.2 litre. Are you adding the 2 stroke oil to the fuel, on the 8v92? I'm not sure what you would gain by adding $60.00 a gallon injection oil to a 2-stroke diesel engine, as this stuff is designed to be injected in a 2-stroke gas engine.
There's a huge difference between your v-twin kohler that rarely see's 100% load, and a marine engine that runs at 100% load at every throttle position it's entire life. There's plenty of v-twin kohlers that I've seen off of generators and commercial mowers that see 100% loads that fail short of 1000 hours. That said, 1500 hours isn't that high, it's pretty close to where many have to have the top end rebuilt.
I want to do this I have regal 2600 fastrac need to repower. Everyone I call I can’t get help or anything on who to call everyone turns me away I just want to buy a package and do the install over the winter.
Why the low compression? Compression relief valve are great for starting two stroke engines. Chain saws. Put a relief valve in there so it can be started. The high compression allows for more power no spark plug. Two stroke Diesel engines are amazing
💯 I have twin 6v71 on my 55footer.. they are amazing and all you need is to keep up with preventative maintenance.. and a bonus they have is you can run on low grade diesel without hurting the fuel economy..
Would rather the young girl had a life jacket on while moving round the boat while it was under power. Really shows an otherwise great video to be unsafe.
1500 hours is definitely not high. If I wear a mercury shirt and hat, will mercury come and replace my engines with new ones worth twice what I paid for the boat ? Who is this advert aimed at ? Total feckin idiots ?
The new Mercruiser Diesel is a product of Volkswagen Marine Engineering ... greetings from Germany, Dortmund
My Mercruiser D219 burns 22L/hr at 25 knots!! Mind you I'm only generating 180Hp. Nice review. That sky anchor is super clever!!
I wanted to see the outdrives after they were repaired or replaced
This is a fantastic Mercury advertisement...............go Rusty.......you are all over it......great deal.
You never showed the actual drive units on the boat, I wanted to see what you replaced the stern drives with.
Have a vid of the removal / install process?
He may think that's cheap to run but I don't, rather a large gardiner diesel 10 knot cruiser
Was there a need to swap out the fuel tank and also drill new holes for the engine mounts?
How in the hell is 1500 hours, high?
For a petrol mercruiser it's pretty high, after about 1100 hours things start breaking and you can't really trust them
1500 hours is nothing!

these are a 2 stroke version so are they running optimax oil in them! i got my 8v92 detroit on brp xd-100 and so far so good.

1500hrs? Rus, my V-twin Kohler has done 4200hrs. All original.

Dog Dogson Cool story.
He is right tho, but i mean if your careful you can get 2k hours outta them easy

What is the cubic inches on those Diesel engine if you don’t mind me asking the gas engines was 496. I’m thinking about doing the same thing you did.
4200cc. They are VW/Audi TDI blocks.
How much did it come to ?
Thats a good review covered all pionts thanks
Two GM V 71 Sixes would do in there.
Precisava de uma valvula desse motor vc trm pra vender
What kind of career or investment can I make in my life that will allow me to do doing something like this?
Drug dealing, investment banking, ripping people off, basically any corperate job where you steal money from hardworking people lol
You are forgetting one big thing, heat from the turbo´s and lack of reliability, but okay when you have a brakedown you can limp home on one engine
Glenn Bjerregaard Dreyer diesel are more reliable than gas and you don’t have to worry about blowing up.
Closed cooling heat exchanger
The twin Cummins would have been a better option.
absofuckinglutely.
They are total shit, gm is more.reliable than these anchors

Yes they are and i got an 8v92

How is a 2007 model in such poor condition? Rich people don't look after their shit
Pods better way to go
I would have gone with Cummins Marine Power. Twin turbo v8 is not going to be as reliable as a I6.
Bloody hell
Shittest donk for a boat. Its vag (vw), Alloy block, turbocharged, high pressure fuel delivery. Yeh nah for me
Would rather the young girl had a life jacket on while moving round the boat while it was under power. Really shows an otherwise great video to be unsafe.
$$$$$$ to fix
probably almost $100 000, parts alone would be about $75 000 and its a pretty labor heavy job
Two bmw b57's would be better.
Bawt
Lol my last name is ingalls
Diesels are great for fuel economy but too heavy for my taste
Mercury (VW Audi) TDI 4.2 Engine Weight: 836 lbs / 379 kg
Not bad
Exactly! Not that heavy - the larger build diesels (Cat/Cummins/Detroit/MAN et. al) are heavier than the MerCruiser (VW/Audi) V8 Bi-TDi's
These are lighter then the 496 engines they replaced. He says that in the video if you watched it.
Good thing little Joe was here to explain what are the chances
