Just as info The Ravenhood series (Flock and Exodus) is not actually a why choose. The second book gives a turn on everything that happened in the first book. Also you can read only book 1 and 2 and be done with the series, the 3rd book is expansion on what happened between the end of the book 2 and the epilogue of book 2. You can also predict what the main mystery is if you retelling of what story it is.
I would love if you would have a summary at the end with each book and the rating you gave, just to keep the overview 🙏 but as usual, enjoyed the video, have not read a single of those but a couple are on my TBR (Sanderson, Kuang)
I just finished this and it ended up being one of my favorite books, but good grief the footnotes drove me nuts. There were quite a few where literally HALF or MORE THAN HALF the page was footnotes, which just seemed too much, especially since I stopped reading the footnotes less than halfway through 😅I don't think it was her intention, but there times where it seemed like she was trying to make the reader feel dumb lol. Regardless, though, I did end up loving it. You were actually the one that encouraged me to pick it up!
I finished The Missing of Clairdelune by Christelle Dabos in June and started my reread of Time’s Convert by Deborah Harkness so I’m ready for All Souls #5, my most anticipated release of 2024, in a week. It’s next Tuesday! I’m sooooooo excited!
Favorite book for June was, The Ashes and the star-cursed King by Carissa Broadbent. It was six stars, and my favorite fantasy romance so far for the year.
I've also had Babel on my shelf for a long time and you're encouraging me to read it! Like you, I had writing where it seems like the author is handholding me to the themes. I read Yellowface by the same author, and I didn't enjoy it as much as everyone else because I felt like it was just slamming me on the head with the point of the book. I wanted more nuance, some subtlety perhaps. Seems like Babel has a similar writing style (plus footnotes :/) But! I do love colonisation as a theme (particular in horror, but fantasy is also good) and the idea of the book seems really good, so I'll give it a try.
June was a bit of a so-so month, reading wise - I think my favourite book ended up being Brideshead Revisited, which I'm very surprised about! July has already started off on a better note, though, which is great! 📘
I read and loved Babel, I agree that it was a bit teachy but given there were some readers who still somehow missed the point I think Kuang was just really trying to make everyone see the racism in everyday life 🩵🩵🩵
Your channel is one of my top favorites at the moment! I'm adoring it. Lots of love from Brazil 🥰

My favourite why choose is The Losers duet by Harley LaRoux and the best iteration of the trope in my personal opinion.
3 stars for Mexican Gothic is way too generous imo 😳😊
