    Great setup! I love how you managed to use such a small box and still fit in everything you need. Also the antenna mount is really neat; i usualy just have my antenas haning down from their cable wich is considerably less elegant.

    Awesome idea the way you used the Velcro to mount the antenna. Originally I was thinking to just drill a hole in the case I would use but I like this idea better as it will keep the case more water resistant. Thanks for the idea and posting this video. 👍

    Just came across your video and I really like this setup. I just passed my Tech exam and am awaiting my call sign. Already studying for the General exam, and one of my interests is to get a portable kit like this for on the go emergency comms which is very beneficial here in Oklahoma. Thank you for the video.

    I like what you've done with your EmComm/Portable dual band Ham Pack, would you provide some instructions on how you made your kit. What you have done looks vary nice and I would like to do something similar. Thanks in advance.

  • @kc6tyd

    I have a question but you may have already answered it. I was going to ask if you used a bracket to hold the radio in place but I think you simply have foam cut out to fit the radio? If that's the case then the radio can simply be pulled straight up and out? So basically how did you mount the radio?

    • @JoseSanles
      @JoseSanles  8 років тому +1

      Foam cut out smaller than the radio so the radio fits tight and stays in place. To take it out you need to unplug the antenna, and power and just pull it out.

  • @YosenBMamma
    @YosenBMamma 8 років тому

    I, too, am intrigued by your very impressive setup. Nice handiwork all around.
    While doing some investigating of your parts list, I came upon the *_Quicksilver_* Web Site. To say that their shipping charges are *outrageous*, is a gross understatement.
    For a lousy 10 bucks the shipping is a whopping *85 percent!* When shipping charges nearly double the price of an order, it's time to find another vendor. They're using that _upside-down_ shipping chart as an incentive for people to spend more for a lower rate. Disgusting. Just disgusting

    • @JoseSanles
      @JoseSanles  8 років тому

      +Yosen B. Mamma All the items I got from QuickSilver Radio were bought at hamfests. Most if not all of the stuff they have you can find online, either on Amazon or eBay. Try those routes if you can.

    I was just watching your video. Nice rig! Did you cut your own top plate for this rig? Also what connector did you mount for your coax to the antenna. Oh, and what antenna. I hate to reinvent the wheel when it looks like you did such a nice job.

    Nice kit and well implemented! Question: Within routine EmComm activities, how long will the 7.5ah battery provide adequate power? The battery and solar panel seem underpowered for any sustained use. Thanks

    • @JoseSanles
      @JoseSanles  5 років тому +1

      About 10 hrs on low power. 7 on high. With the solar panel attached, all day. (I am not transmitting continuously so it will charge while on receive)

    @SechoDB Brother Ham you did an outstanding job!!! Thank you! Curious - what are you doing for cooling or perhaps you do not need to? If you reverse engineered it I bet many of us would love to see how you made certain selections and space provisioning. BTW - I use Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) for safety reasons, very light, super safe, not so cheap. I do not work for Bioenno Power or a distributor for them, thye make a kicka$$ set of products. 73's

    • @JoseSanles
      @JoseSanles  8 років тому +1

      If you pause the video on about minute 7:27, you will notice there are 1/2" gaps on the underside of the radio to allow for ventilation. The top side is just open wide once you remove the mic, antenna cable, etc. It is all passive cooling. The radio does not get hot that I noticed. I've heard about Bioenno Power through HamNation but their shipping is $$-pensive!!

    • @325v64
      @325v64 8 років тому

      Thanks... I thought so on the 10W & heat output. All I can say on the Bioenno, their product came extremely well protected and at least 7 other Hams in our club now use their products since we found out about them. Again, thanks for a great build and video.

    you paid WAY too much for the battery, and half the stuff you bought from QSR. Local walmarts (if you have one) have them for 12 - 20$ also other retailers online sale them for way cheaper... the cig outlet and usb combo could have been bought on amazon together for less than half the QSR price...
    if you need to double your capacity buy another 7.5 AH battery and then get the new "BATTPAC" from hardened power systems. you have the older version that was made by hand from a plexi type material. The maker of those is a ham that lives near me. His new version is 3d printed and much cleaner looking.
    very coll looking i may have to do something like this as i get tired of hauling around my big go box which ways 53lbs LOL.
    (mostly due to dual 22AH batteries) i have mine set up to run for 3 days of standby or deadkey the radio inside the box at 50 watts for 3 hours...(itd probably melt the kenwood before then)
