Again, the amount of detail you put into these videos.. Your effort in reading background material and presenting it in clear and interesting way is highly appreciated.
My home town. We used to see f117a's overhead before they were public... "oh, that is just our stealth". There is a cool statue of the fighter outside the fire station. They would do flyovers for parades and such in the late 80's. I learned to fly from the TPH airfield just outside of town and be best friend's family ran the airfield.
Two F-117’s have been flying outta here 12 years after they were retired from active service in 2008, also I’ve been hearing that they might bring the F-117 Nighthawk back into service. Which would be a very rare and amazing sight to see if you ask me.
Great info as always Bunyap. Your knowledge of aviation and the way its presented keeps me watching. The only negative is the videos are short :D. I know it take a lot of time to source the material, collect photos and record everything but its always grade A stuff. I loved the tour you did for the NTTR map as I learned so much. Good to see ED has acknowledge your work and have giving you some sneak peaks to show off. Couldn't think of a better you tuber for it.
I went there in the a few times around 1986 - 88 as part of communications installations projects. You had to have Special Access Clearance to get on the base. Much of whatever was going on was done under cover of darkness. I did see some of the Migs Flying around, but none of the F17’s. They hid them well.
That's why I don't complain about how ED take so long to update the maps and modules, we all know the quality that we can expect when the final product is released. Btw, nice video and information, as always! 😊
TTR is a badass lookin place. If you can ever go on a trip to see all the spooky bases out there its worth it. Do one at night (Moonlit of you could) and in the day. Its just cool to be so close to a black world installation without having to climb a peak 30 miles away!
This was a superb short documentary on the history of TTR! Thank you, Bunyap! I thought I'd seen all the photos of TTR from the Red Eagles days but this video included a lot there were new for me. Definitely looking forward to flying Constant Peg exposures out of TTR in the near future on DCS.
Fantastic history lesson on an airfield that I'll be seeing from above in future training missions. Thank you very much for sharing this! The story you are telling adds so much context to the simulator environment, and is so interesting that I would watch it regardless of the DCS connection.
Oh man, an F-117 module would be a lot of fun. I've always just assumed there was too much classified content in regards to the plane. Who knows, maybe one day...
Honestly, there's a surprising amount of unclassified information available on the nighthawk, and so many of its systems are recycled from other aircraft that much of the documentation on cockpit and weapon employment systems from those particular aircraft can be used as a starting point for the 117. We won't get the 117 until ED updates their radar modelling, though. Right now, it'd be basically pointless to fly without any low-observable/stealth capabilities.
@@delayed_control RCS isn't simulated, per ED themselves. There's a number associated with each aircraft that's modified by its relative aspect to the emitter that determines what range it resolves as an actual contact. That's an approximation of RCS, but it makes actual proper stealth based on aircraft geometry impossible, because that would require proper simulation (i.e. an actual raycasting radar that actually drew contacts based on received reflections).
Thank you so much for the information. It's fascinating, having lived my entire life in Las Vegas. Too bad none of our new aircraft look anywhere as cool the F117.
You ever consider making a kind of introductory video about yourself? Who you are, what you've done and stuff like that, you've obviously worked on aircraft in some capacity before and I, and I'm sure other people, would be really interested to hear about those experiences, although if you'd rather maintain a distinction between your personal and online life then that's understandable. Anyway, keep up the amazing content, easily my favourite channel on UA-cam right now, cheers! :)
You are not alone in this, I too enjoyed flying the F17 in TFX back then I was a teenager. Granted, TFX was probably not the most advanced jet aircraft simulator but it was fun to fly low and sneak behind the enemy lines. :D
F-19 from Microprose was loads of fun back in the late 80s: I remember flying out to eastern Poland where the terrain ended and the F-19 would just "hang" in the air. You could get the Medal of Honor score on "Cold War" setting (points accumulate just for flying over enemy territory) that way.
worked night shift there for 4 years; (a shop/blue) - my favorite part of it was the amazing night skies. there was almost no light pollution at all; we didn't even have full headlights on trucks (they were masked or used parking lights only)...
It's too bad the F-117 was retired. Such a cool aircraft! In the late 1980's, I camped one night in Meadow Valley Wash while passing through central Nevada. All night long, I kept hearing a single jet fighter. It sounded like no other jet I have ever heard, before or since. I couldn't see a thing, even though it was a moonless, cloudless night, but that fighter sounded as if it was doing complex aerial maneuvers. It was different enough from the way a normal fighter sounds that it kept my attention. It sounded as if it was dogfighting with another fighter, but it was alone. Also, it was very loud, even by jet fighter standards! I have often wondered if I was hearing an F-117 being tested. If anyone can tell me if my description matches the characteristics of an F-117, I would appreciate the information.
You say that the classification wouldn't be a problem but if you could get the flight information then there are definitely people that could give it a crack (I would but i only really do 3D stuff) Specifically we would need information the center of gravity, flight characteristics (Coefficients of lift and drag etc) Engine specifications and how the MFD's work (what pages are there etc.)
Nice video.👌I flew my F-5 from Nellis AFB to Tonopah Test Range Airfield and I can't repair my aircraft in here. My radio station is set on airfield's frequency I use the repair button and nothing happens. Do you know any solution?
Is there ever any possibility for DCS to have more flaming cliffs style aircraft I love the sim plains but its fun being able to just hop in an aircraft and have fun.
the double perimeter fence surrounded the entire base; including the hangers and the runways... incoming personnel flights parked at the terminal on the south end of the base and we had to walk from there to a double gate entry with biometric/2 factor verification to get into the main part of the base. fwiw: current satellite images appear to show that double fence open at the gates now but that was never the case when i was there.

nice of you presenting some history of that airfield. well done and very informative. thx!

Honestly, you have the best videos on youtube. Thank you
Grateful for the memories. Enjoyed Wednesday dinners!😊

Great overview of Tonopah base and operations!
Thanks for gathering and sharing this piece of history! Makes for a better immersion too :-)

Yeah, I love dedicated bombers even more than attack craft. I would love a Tornado or F-15E as well, but F-117 would be great.

@@therealCG62 RCS is simulated, it's just that it's spherical, so F-117 would be hilariously overpowered.

I spent a lot of time at TTR working for Lockheed with 28 years. I was on the program from first flight to last flight.

Very interesting video, thank you for the news and bit of history lesson, great vid as always.
Above the flag, was a big sign with the INS Coordinates for the hangar. I was a Reaper Keeper 87-90
Fantastic Video,Brings back Great memories of some early Sims featuring The NightHawk.
A whole video out of a single pic? I can't think what will happen when it's released :D. Good vid BTW.
Great video and an awesome history lesson! F-117 module would be very interesting indeed...
Great work, as always, Bunyap.
Cheers!
Such an interesting video! I would love to see an F-117 module also.

Great Great video! Very informative and kept me entertained! Would REALLY love a F-117 module! hell yeah!
HOW DID THE PEOPLE LIVING AROUND THE BASE NO T NOTICE THE F117'S? ITS HARD TO MISS THEM..
what people living around the base? the closest 'town' is 30 miles away
This must have been a great place to work back in its hay day.

Hey Bunyap can you do a video on your experiences in the USAF? Also can you do a video about your interest with aviation in general.
Thanks for another informative video Bunyap, definitely copy you on an F-117 module mate.
Nice video...u do some great informative vids.
Interesting history. Thanks
Nice video.👌I flew my F-5 from Nellis AFB to Tonopah Test Range Airfield and I can't repair my aircraft in here. My radio station is set on airfield's frequency I use the repair button and nothing happens. Do you know any solution?
Nice. Very good vidéo !

excellent video!
I wonder if they will add the perimeter fence around the F-117 hangars, with gates on the taxi ways that open.

Site of Top Gun and Red Flag Aggressor Squadron operations.
Very interesting (and motivational ;)
Awesome vid!
My former employer American Trans Air (3:24) flew there.
Any news about new cities?
Holy sh@t! You have pics of the elusive Mig 28!
Thanks!
Matt Wagner actually watches these videos so Matt; plz give us F-117!
enjoyed thanks :)
Will DCS get the F-117
no :)
Will DCS ever get the F-16? the most used fighter in the western world.
Don't be an idiot. Let some one from ED reply.
Any F 18 news?
Need f117!!!
