I switched primarily to Amazon dots (I am not fussed about sound quality) a while ago because I liked their functionality better and also as mentioned how they can link to kindle and audible. They work with Apple music also and I prefer the answers and speed. I also prefer the smart doorbell. Probably the main reason however was the single word "call" phrase 'Alexa' for general enquiries rather than "Hey Google" which I often had to repeat. (I know you can set up shortcuts but not worth the effort)
Strongly agree with everything said here. I set up both Google Home and Amazon Echo devices throughout my house when I moved 7 years ago. At first Google seemed light years ahead. But over the past 2-3 years, it seems Google has gotten noticeably slower and the Echo has gotten noticeably better. I now use the Echo for all my daily asks (weather, time, news) because I can't stand the small delay every time I ask the Home, and as mentioned their ability to answer more complex questions is now very comparable.
like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....
Should I buy the echo 4 for 60€ or the echo dot 5 for 32€? I am only interested in the sound quality. I know that the echo 4 has a better Sound quality but is it worth it the 30€ more or should I buy the small echo dot 5? 🙂
Yeah thats a good point, language support is def a benefit of the Google Assistant that I should have mentioned! Thanks for commenting with your experience - Josh
Google display and mini are useless. When you change your password it is a nightmare to get them reconnected to wifi via google home app! But my amazon echo was one step to reconnect! And my router is a google product!!! NEST. I got rid of both my google not so smart devices and replaced with Amazon products
Both Alexa and Google Assistant on Sonos provide a sub-standard experience. Not all commands and options for either are available on Sonos. I found it rather frustrating, and that's why I no longer use them on Sonos. I actually like the Sonos assistant on Sonos (works fine for music). And I have a couple Echos for Alexa (Google devices have always been wonky for me).
Josh, for the echo dot 4th gen, it does not have a zigbee hub whereas the Echo does. It’s not a big issue, but I have motion sensors that are Zigbee and it was nice to not have to get another hub.
😅Echo Show 4 and Echo Dot are now wi-fi extenders if you have their Eero Wifi Mesh system. Which makes it a stronger connectivity with compatible devices and soon to come Matter

Is it worth getting an Amazon echo for my first smart speaker instead of a Sonos roam? I like Sonos more for it’s portability, but also I put the sound quality to doubt. Is Sonos sounding good enough as an Amazon echo?
Like your video. I think that depends the language and country that you in. I'm from Portugal and the Google assistant in Portuguese doesn't permit that you do routines and other stuff but the Alexa you can talk in Portuguese and she understands.
That’s really fascinating! These things seem to vary wildly based on the language (a point I def should have made in the video). Thanks for sharing your experience with them - Josh
Keep in mind and look up the all the articles about how Amazon has spied on people through those this is happened on more than one occasion. They've been caught doing this

Hey Josh - Thanks this was so helpful. I stored my Echo Dot 3rd Gen devices in storage last year when I moved over to everything Google. But I recently brought it back after watching this video and observed the exact same things s you . For example, the Echo Dot responsed better and faster to all my questions and seemed to work better at controlling all my smart devices. The Echo Dot is also more open minded when it comes to my Son's DJ requests when connecting with Sonos for whole house or room specific music as compared with my Google Nest Mini and Google Home Hub. Daily news feed wise and App wise I still like my Google Home Beta over the Alexa app but it just seems like Echo and Alexa got smarter and better over the last year. The Echo Dot also gives me better jokes and often holds me captive for Amazon shopping deals. My 7 year old actually told me he thinks Alexa assistant is now smarter than Google Assistant. He used to say the same thing about Cortana back in the day (what happened to her). As much as I hate dinging on the "Big G", I have to admit that I had the same eye opening experience at my home. Thanks as always for making things so relatable and relevant. Happy St. Paddy's Day in advance.
You're welcome and I'm glad you found the video helpful! We were certainly surprised with our experience and will continue to make new content on these devices as they progress further.

**Note, the Echo Dot doesn’t have a Zigbee hub built in and the 5th gen removed the 3.5 mm out port.

Came for an Echo review. Not how much you love Sonos.
Hating ah ngja
I agree lol .not sure why he keeps on SELLING SONOS if he is reviewing for amazon im betting they didn't appreciate his two faced review lol

I was considering buy some Alexa devices but thanks to your reviews I still will stick with Google
Shame lol I love google but as a music listener I’m with Amazon
So I'm going to get the big Echo for the loudest sound for phone calls. Thanks
Well, these devices may go old but they do not lose their credibility. Love the way Amazon has used the Mediatek chips in the devices.

.
In Italian Alexa is super stupid, she can respond to maybe 1/5 of search questions :(
BUT she is fast to say "Non lo so" (I don't know) 😂

The review goes all over the place, and talks a lot about other speakers than sticking to the title, that is comparing the Echo with the Echo dot.
Hi, Where was the review of the Echo Dot and Echo. You just compaired them to other smart speaker. This was not a review video.
Google display and mini are useless. When you change your password it is a nightmare to get them reconnected to wifi via google home app! But my amazon echo was one step to reconnect! Misleading title..
Title is very misleading. It has nothing to do with comparing the two Echo versions. All of the talk is about google home vs alexa.

Whoops, that’s a total miss on our end. Should have mentioned that. Thx for pointing that out!
Have you considered using a coaster? :)
Yeah, or a simple rubber/cork mat.

Hi, They removed the speaker out on the 5th gen echo I have.
The grass is never greener on either side.
I do like the simplicity of Amazon's drop in feature.

@@6MonthsLater with echo dot 5 I can pair a JBL speaker easily but with nest hub 2nd it's that easy

should i go for echo dot 4 or 5?
Loving both echos. Love Amazon products.
So u just need Wi-Fi,and or do I need to have a phone also?
This a kinda niche but could you cover how they perform without internet access?

Connect Echo Dot to your own speaker via 3.5mm aux, Bluetooth, or setting your Preferred Speaker and also has a good dimensity chip.
It’s paired, but not audio pair device, so useless for my laptop,
Haha a bit more round might be an understatement 😂
Can’t use this t for my laptop
Better than 🍏 ? Possibly.
Better than Google ? Never going to happen.
Thanks Josh,

Great review Josh! You're the best!
Great review going wonderfully against the "Amazon Echo is dead"-moods of many.
