Evan - Regarding past games, its only on radio but how about Tom Seavers 1 hitter against the cubs on July 9 1969? The greatest Met and one of his best games.
Worried that by the time Stearns tries for another real move, there won't be anyone of value left to add to the roster. These do not seem like "win now" moves; just a smattering of a player here and there. I sure do want to be wrong on this one!
5.19 ERA. Mets need to score 6 runs every team he goes out. Average team scores a little more than 4 runs per game. If he stays healthy we’ll go 9-21 in his starts. Pathetic signing.
Depth means "to build around." Fans would be more receptive of these moves if they already had a strong front end of the rotation piece, but after Senga and Peterson you're left with a ton of question marks. Counting on an inconsistent guy like Montas then rolling the dice on the Clay Holmes starter experiment could work or backfire tremendously. There is still time for them to level up the rotation of course. It's just that usually you lay a strong foundation and then build around it where the Mets have just been adding random support beams all over the place.
It’s not every season you get through it with your starting 5 rotation options just ask the Dodgers! If ST begins and what we have now is what we’re going to war with I’ll be the loudest craziest Mets fan in the world but I know they have much more to do! This team obviously wants Roki they are clearly scouring the trade market as well and worst case you have either Manaea or Buehler to FA. What I’m trying to say is be patient this is a depth option for sure!
This is not the depth we need. Here’s depth Burnes, Manaea buehler senga Peterson montas That’s depth. This is a waste of a roster spot and 5M. I’m out. Don’t need to hear anymore about canning more and more high eras and projects to this supposed World Series rotation. We’re playing games here.
@@SamG91probably not. Sometimes people just don’t realize there are 20+ other teams out there trying to also acquire players. So you take some shots with irrelevant amounts of money, when this system has succeeded already getting more bang for your buck with mid level arms
Uh, no, that's not what depth is. Depth is literally arms/dudes who you can put on the bump when people get hurt or underperform. You just named high budget starting pitchers, who yes, would be nice, but thats the opposite of depth lmao Every single one of these signings ARE the depth we need. The more the merrier. Mets fans are such clowns. You don't know ball.
Why complain did Cohen and Stearns make an announcement saying no more free agents or trades to improve the Mets. Hot stove is over? It's ridiculous these guys are not the Wilpons.
This signing is cheap for Steve Cohen. It's like him buying a milkshake at McDonald's. Chocolate milkshakes there are very good. The point is harmless move depth piece for the Mets pitching rotation. He is only 28.
Mets had a lot of luck with starting pitching injuries last year. Doesn’t mean they will have the same luck this yr. Adding a guy who threw 170 innings for 4.5M is a good move.
What’s going on with Mets signing player that nobody wants ..Yankees are making better move now we stick with Soto and what else???? Mets are maybe a third place team right now at best so frustrating 😡
@@jerseygrit5402 Lol! As if David Stearns, Jeremy Hefner and the Mets' pitching lab just got lucky and "caught lightning in a bottle". Stick to knitting and playing mah-jong with the old ladies in the nursing home, because baseball is clearly not your thing.
Please tell me who Hefner has molded? Severino pitched to his career ERA last year. Mannea watches sale pitch and decided to change his mechanics. Hefner didn’t tell him to change his mechanics.
Statistically, long-term, starting pitching contracts do not age well. Understandable. But, this is still a business; you need to put butts on the seats. You also need a viable, recognizable, sellable starter.
This type of move is all Stearns. He's trying to be the genius in the room. Getting Soto was all Cohen. I think Stearns would be more comfortable being the GM. of the A's. Sign Pete and Burns or tell Stearns to take a hike. BTW: Canning SUCKS!!!
I'm a fan of Stearns, and I usually counsel other fans to give him the benefit of the doubt on moves ... but, I have to admit that I'm really scratching my head over this one. If it was a deal with a pitcher who had minor league options ... okay, no worries. If it was a split major/minor contract ... okay, no worries. But this seems to be strictly a major league deal. What in god's name do you do with Canning during the season? You can't expect he'll settle into the rotation. You can't expect he'd be a valuable reliever. I just do not understand this. Hope Stearns makes some moves that prove this to be a brilliant acquisition ... but I'm not holding my breath.
He's a relief pitcher or depth move lol, not going to be a starting pitcher. Stearns like to stock pile pitchers, which is fine. We going to sign another big starting pitcher either Manea or someone else and add Sasaki if he comes.
If METS repeat 2022's 101 Win pace of 4.5ish runs scored/game, are you really helped by a 5.19ERA Guy...?? This guy needs the Pitching Lab overhaul + when you look at the tapes of him, he has a hitch in his giddy-up during the late stage of his delivery...??!!
Better be acquiring a 25 year old ace for Vientos. Vientos is 24 and hit 27 HR 70 RBI in less than 3/4 of a season. Future consistent 30/100 player if he stays healthy. Hes nearly untouchable
Just read this another 5 era guy gonna compete for a rotation spot?! For who?? The single A team? Only 3 roster spots left and we need 2 starters 2 pen arms and Pete So wtf we wasting 5 mill for?
I can't believe the Mets is going to let go teoscar Hernandez and Anthony Santander the are cheap to get they can make tons of money with them as a fan's favor with Soto and he will help to back up Soto that they spend so much money on Unbelievable waiting for the Yankees to take Santander or the Oscar Hernandez. Why can they give him 100 million for five years let's go Mets let's do it
The mets GM think he’s with Milwaukee, he doesn’t look at the dodgers, Atlanta, padres, Phillies, did Soto sign for this, Mr stearn thinks he’s smarter than everybody, I hate the Yankees but they GM make his team better in every position, pitching, bullpen and the whole team, frustrated, enough with proyect!
This is a clown show. The Mets got Soto because Steve Cohen correctly just refused to take no for an answer and would’ve went to a billion if necessary. Which is great. But he’s leaving the rest of the puzzle to Mini Market Stearns who’s trying to capture lightning in a bottle again. Last year he basically hit the jackpot with Manaea and Severino and it still wasn’t nearly enough. Now he’s signing a murderers row of cast offs again to back up who? Injury prone 31 year old Senga and David Peterson? The Mets don’t even have a reliable #2 starter who you know will give you 32 starts and a low 3’s ERA - much less an ace. The Mets have one or two #3 starters and about five #5 starters. If you think Soto alone is going to put this team over the top, think about this. If we lost Alonso the net gain from last year going Alonso to Soto is 7 HR 21 RBI. In the playoffs their power numbers were identical, with Soto of course having a higher average and OPS. But if you think the Mets were the difference between Alonso and Soto away from winning a World Series you’re insane. The Brewers ran all over the Mets pitching and the dodgers batted around every inning. They scored 6+ runs in 5/6 games. It was the most runs scored in a 7 game series ever and it was done in 6 games. The Mets pitching is worse today than it was then with 8 weeks until pitchers and catchers report
Not liking what Stearns and Cohen are doing. Besides Soto, this offseason has a feel like they aren’t serious.
Meet The Milwaukee Mets!!!!
They have Juan Soto so that joke is stale
300 million dollar payroll

Kodai Senga
Oh my god the countdown on CLIPS??? Just absurd.
Megill or Blackburn a nice throw in for Castillo trade centered around Baty
In one of these Ricos broadcasts, can you please explain the Mets "Pitching Labs"
@11:10 let Stearns cook ! I think it's also a year by year basis maybe free agent pitchers are better next year

Less than 5 Million for a MLB proven SP that can give you up to 150 IP if needed as a No.5 - i'm totally fine with that.

@stanfromwestport2024 "if needed" are the most important words in my statement. I hope heißt our No. 7 or 8 for the Year

Mets need to score 10 runs a game to win with lousy pitching
Canning will eat 150+ innings. We will score 5+ runs per game so his high ERA is irrelevant. Mets will lock down an ace or bullpen at trade deadline.

Braves dodgers and Phillies better pitching
