August, I always enjoy watching your videos because you come up with some amazing camera angles (multiple cameras, drone, ext) and it makes it like watching a TV show. I say that because they are highly entertaining to watch and like any good show you wait with great anticipation for the next episode. I really appreciate you videos because the amount of time you must put into editing them does not go unnoticed in your final product. If I had to pay to subscribe to your channel I would in a heartbeat that's how entertaining your videos are to watch. If you like tree work this is the #1 show in my mind. Thanks for all the hard work making it.
August,I enjoy your art, there are many paths in the forest but at the end of the day you picks the one that works you.thank you for sharing your art, it's been interesting watching you grow with your art. You just keep on being you.
I never realized people got so upset over Hollywood style editing vs raw footage. If I've ever given you that impression ever man please give me a little grace, I truly appreciate both styles. I'm not a Monkey Beaver but I do a lot of volunteer tree work from the ground so I can appreciate some aspects of the challenges you face. Down to brass tax though I'm just a fan and nothing better than that. My favorite video is still the lightning strike video but I also like your video talking about not cutting roots because of how it can lead to an unstable tree. I like them both and the fact that you don't light up the audio with f bombs every other minute which means I can watch them around the little ones. My 2 year old girl thought that was me climbing the tree in the lightning strike video until I explained it to her and told her that you guys are Monkey Beavers to which she said in an excited 2 year old "Look Dad Monkey Beaver! Are you Monkey Beaver?" lol. All I could do was laugh and say "No honey Dad is just a ground Beaver, I don't climb because I'm not made for this lol.". She still said in a sweet voice "oh ok, you still beaver" and we watched more videos together. Thanks for making content we can both enjoy in little bits and pieces of time as life allows.
Your videos are just right. They are instructional enough that my crew (my family) and I learn from them, but entertaining enough to keep the "cool" in tree work. I really enjoy when you post a new video, and they form a sense of brotherhood in this industry. When I watch your videos, they make me want to get out there and take on another challenging tree puzzle! I'm retirering as a Deputy Sheriff in three months and going to do this full time.
Your video style is fine in my book August. I love watching them. Currently binge watching all your old video trying to catch up to the present. The heck with all the winers out there. Thumbs up to all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August as far as I'm concerned your videos hit all the right angles and are second to none of the others that I've watched. That was some challenging tree there and a great job...well done period...Hollywood style or not:) Personally, having done this work, I enjoy the editing you've done to make it entertaining...stay safe!
Who cares what style they are, opinions are like butt holes, everyone has one. The point is the time and effort taken to edit these videos showcasing the wide range of work covered on a daily basis in what is a relentless job sometimes both physically and mentally. Ok yes it's great with pumping music, but equally it's nice to see and hear it raw giving the non tree guys a sense of perspective and understanding. Great work as always August.
Your videos are a great balance between the technical aspects involved and entertainment value, capturing a broad audience. Educational enough if you want to learn a few things, but not being a how too video. Demonstrating how difficult it can be and gives awareness to the industry. Shows what a customer is paying for and some of what's involved for those so inclined. Thanks for taking the time for all of it.
All very awesome as usual!! I appreciate all that work you do on these videos! Always waiting for the next, I'm in the trees as well, and like any tree guy, I love watching and learning other tips and tricks from others that know more than I! So thanks for the vids!
Been doing this professional-like since at least 1995, and I still love to watch your video videos. To me, you have a very well-balanced equation: x%entertainment editing + y%detailed points we can glean information from × an overarching sense of comraderie = Great August videos
You do great work , don't give rip about specific editing styles . It is nice to see the real time work , it shows us tree guys that you have the same struggles .
You make videos interesting and fun that tell a small story with theory put in the mix. There are many how to videos that aren't boring they are just not as engaging August. Considering your running a business have a family and take the time where possible to answer comments I/we are really grateful. Please keep em coming mate. I have found better rigging techniques, climbing techniques and realised that I am 'made for this' (got the t shirt). Tree Stuff as well! Fantastic work and all the best from Oxfordshire, England :-)
all the videos and content that you put out for everyone to enjoy is great! here in the far East Coast of Maine it's well received! Nay sayers will always be, regardless!
I really like the Hollywood style videos, that's what brought me to your channel. Now I watch all your vids, and enjoy them, so edit the way it makes you happy.
First time commenting on your vids August. First thing first I'm a tree guy and yes your right it is a SICKNESS. I work trees all day then come home plant and grow them and when its dark I youtube them. Just chiming in on what you where talking about before. As a youtuberer I fined my self skipping through a lot of videos looking for the action parts I have found my self doing that a lot on the longer videos. So any thing longer then 10 minuets. This is not relivent to your videos. I have so FAR found your videos to have the type of content that I enjoy the talking is entertaining and the music is grate. I personally enjoy tree vids with music as it works good with beer. Thums up mate.
I really appreciate the videos you do. Keep them coming as time permits. I get it...I work 40 hour weeks then do about 25 hours on trees when I have jobs, on the weekend.
Very much appreciate you breaking down the details as much as possible! I may never do anything as complicated as this, but much of the techniques and thought processes are to some degree transferable to smaller, less complicated jobs. ALSO ... showing same thing from different angles/perspectives, annotations, graphics, etc.... in short, all the *teaching* aids you use help in the understanding and retention. ALSO... regarding "a wider audience" ... as one who has been known to read technical manuals cover to cover (at least start reading anyway).... the cliche is real about "death by powerpoint" ... in other words even for specifically targeted audiences (tree guys/people) dry details can become "boring" or tend to make one drift mentally... using your creativity, editing, production, etc. is *not* "cheapening" the end product... it just helps direct the info in your videos to all the viewers mental receptors, etc.so they will remember, appreciate, learn, etc. more than if you had made it more mundane or pedantic (although nothing intrinsically wrong with mundane or pedantic), right?
Just found this video (part 3) had seen the other two, but kept getting pulled away from the computer before part 3. Really great vid and it was great to hear your explanations of the pro's and con's of Hollywood vs Technivid? I am in the watching to learn crowd, that said even in your Hollywood vids I am usually able to glean more information on safe and innovative techniques than I do on many others "Technivid" postings. Thanks and keep up the great work.
Hey buddy, that limb that you said get you worked up is that same limb that took me out. I know you understand now as I am part of the small crowd. Northeast climber the same age as yourself. I just stumbled upon your channel not long ago. Great job buddy I wish we had someone like you back when we started huh pal? Would have saved some rough lessons. Keep up the good work
Exceptional explanation to a fan audience by the name of Corey. I have a few one minute to three-minute videos of what I do at work. No editing. Not for show but for family I'm definitely just tree guy like yourself. Even though I'm just a fan I really appreciate your explanation to some of the guys to watch and comment on your videos. Assuming that there is a younger audience who did not know what it was like not to have a cell phone or even know what a thing like a pager ever looked like because they do not exist anymore. There were no computers growing up. And nowadays a lot of tree guys are not taught properly like myself it took me a long time to become who I am. Wishing I had a better teacher whenever I get a chance I explain things to guys so they understand how to be a really good tree guy.
Very nice of mix video! I do at times like both fast paced videos (I'm a Big Kid)! Other times, I like to learn with some examples you show that are indirectly educational! Thank August for taking the time to edit the monotony out, and make TreeWork look like TreeFun! Justin "The Big Kid"
I enjoy both Hollywood and real. as long as it's interesting. I don't want to watch a long tree video with no commentary or exciting editing. keep up good work bud, stay safe.
Kid vs Adult target market: Yep, the two best examples are Disney cartoons and children's mini-sermons during "big church;" they seem to target kids, but they capture both markets. Personally, I love your "voice overs." Also, I like to try to freeze closeups of that day's ascender and rigging setups. Most importantly, you include your family!
Great set of videos I've been in the game for a lot less then you but seeing the way you judge your cuts and fall makes me fell a lot more faith in myself. So thank you for putting in that effort late at night because yes your right we do all want some detail now and then but most of all we just want to see some cool Arb work. An also after a days work I now I just want to sleep so fair play to you for the effort!
I think you do a great job. I showed one of your video to a random person and this person does editing for a TV station and this person told me you have a lot of hours in you videos. well I know that. because I have put up a few 14 to 16 min video and those took me 5 to 7 hours you do a good job. so keep up the great videos
Hi august love the vid as usual I can totally see what makes you spend so much time doing these videos & I'm glad you do! There really is no other job in the world like ours 👍 Stay safe man
About 8:30 was there a fart in those sound effects? Not fun but an honest days work!! Haven’t been in Maine since mid-60’s; have truck and fifth wheel and camera time to visit again Thanx from the left coast near the Krapitol of California
August, you should seriously do a video where you TRY to use ONLY the minutiae of the "Ground Hog Day" workdays!!! Really slick editing and music, for gassing up saws, greasing fittings on machinery, packing up lines(for the zillionth time),changing chipper blades, dumping chips, yadda yadda yadda.....
Your videos should be playing at Vermeer dealerships. You guys make that sucker work for you so nicely. I hope you don't get tired of making videos. I haven't found a video on your channel that I didn't like and didn't watch from start to finish. Thanks August
I appreciate all the time you've put into these vids. It has re-energized my performance at work each day! You should enable viewers to pay you thru paypal to show appreciation! I'm serious. If you weren't spending all the time on the vids your poor wife would be pushing out a baby in the birthing tub every year like mine was. (8 kids!) You might still get there - women love tree men !!
Samuel Luria Sam did you ever catch the Sena video I made for you? If you need more information I can make an unlisted video for you capturing any further questions or details I may have missed. My friend Tony has the Kask helmet with the system but has since switched to the Protos because he found that the earmuffs hang up on branches more on the Kask
hey just figured id say if its a tree guy that knows what he is doing then he should be able to watch ur vids and understand what ur doing in the vid. if for some reason I see something i will re-watch it and then will usually understand it. also i like watching ur vids ive learned some cool tricks from them. also i love the vermeer i would like to get 1 this summer. i have the 1400xl and it kicks ass and eats what ever i put in it.
Do as much editing/dialoguing/experimenting as you can while you can, these are fun vids and the humor, drawl, slow, or otherwise,! great! Come on there's no pleasing the experts, I get that, but they are a minority I think, regarding the audience, the rest of us are learning about the lifestyle, (your lifestyle) out west, etc. Mix it up, wrap it up like buttercup popcorn, (Hollywood is fun) we'all only live once unless you're into reincarnation or something else. Enjoy your vids, keep em coming while you got the energy to produce. thank you, citizen UA-cam.
We can't "see" "why" the redirect lends strength, because it is an abstract geometric concept. It's invisible. All we can see is the apparatus/configuration manifesting itself - in this case, angled lines. This is seeing "how" it works. (Sorry - the Hollywood video debate got my mind gearing all philosophical 'n'stuff....)
stihlsavvy - Depending on other conditions, like barometric pressure, species, etc., you can still get thick smoke from even the driest of woods. For the PNW, that smoke looked pretty average.
Here's my opinion, and I barely know how to start a chainsaw. Do what you want. Make the videos how you want. I enjoy your videos and I am thrilled to see what y'all are doing.
You never did mean to make how to videos :) I enjoy your videos for the entertainment mostly :) I did many different types of work that can put one in harms way. {LEO, Marine Captain, Auto Mechanic, Welder, Tree faller, light Arborist, Handy man, } Details are important if some one wants to do certain work ; especially if done wrong can kill or serious bodily injury. (But your not making how to's) Many times I seen people looking at me while working - like they are trying to learn something {I respect people trying to learn something new} ; I don't mind at all but depending on what I am doing I'll tell them if they have any questions ask me because there might be dangerous I'm looking for they have no clue about; they might be looking but don't know the science or forces being applied. It's all so easy to miss a thing or two when watching some one that will lead to a very bad situation. Worst is when kids are looking you don't want them to get crazy ideas that will get them hurt ; and you don't want to be the mean person to send them away either . For entertainment aspect you hit the mark right on the head! just my ramblings
I'm mostly watching these because I'm trying to learn stuff (I'm not a tree guy) because I volunteer in the State Emergency Service (Australia) and we have to cut a lot of fallen, hung up trees, trees in other trees, trees in powerlines and on houses. The Hollywood style might be more "entertaining" but teaches me pretty much nothing. Thanks for the vids.
Element45 August has always tried to stay away from tutorials, with the exception of the speedline tips videos (a technique he probably knows more about then the vast majority of others in our line of work) if your looking for educational/instructional videos, Lawrence Schultz (Pfannerman) has created a series you will want to see and study called the schultz effect. details can be found on his youtube channel.
that talking about how long ur vids are needs to watch the tree guy i watched last weekend he has a single vid. that was 4.5 hours long on one job taking down one tree-
Do your style of videos and accept that you will never please everyone. You could do 10 different videos of the same tree job and the haters will always hate. Be confortable in your own skin and don't worry about what people say. Maybe you should stop reading coments and just put out your product...your product not their product. Peace man.
August, I always enjoy watching your videos because you come up with some amazing camera angles (multiple cameras, drone, ext) and it makes it like watching a TV show. To quite honest August, I’ve learned more from you & Buckin’s UA-cam channels than any instructional video EVER!

That cut at about 8:10 had me going... Beautiful man love that sound of hinge wood co by its job.
Hell, everybody is a critic. Some more productive than others. Keep doing what you're doing. It's all good!
Thanks for the video.

I remember pagers! I remember thinking cordless phones were amazing.
Very nice of mix video! I do at times like both fast paced videos (I'm a Big Kid)! Other times, I like to learn with some examples you show that are indirectly educational! Thank August for taking the time to edit the monotony out, and make TreeWork look like TreeFun!
Justin "The Big Kid"
your videos are well done. breaking down the details is what i like. i'm here to learn as much as i can.
stay safe.
I enjoy both Hollywood and real. as long as it's interesting. I don't want to watch a long tree video with no commentary or exciting editing. keep up good work bud, stay safe.

Thank you for another great video to watch August.
Great editing , love the gun shot on the axe removing the wedge. I am guessing that your loving the vermeer by the way you are running around on it.

Hi august love the vid as usual
I can totally see what makes you spend so much time doing these videos & I'm glad you do! There really is no other job in the world like ours 👍
Stay safe man
About 8:30 was there a fart in those sound effects?
Not fun but an honest days work!!
Haven’t been in Maine since mid-60’s; have truck and fifth wheel and camera time to visit again
Thanx from the left coast near the Krapitol of California
what type saw is that, enjoying the channel.
man u hit the nail on the head, I understand ur explanation well said
August, you should seriously do a video where you TRY to use ONLY the minutiae of the "Ground Hog Day" workdays!!! Really slick editing and music, for gassing up saws, greasing fittings on machinery, packing up lines(for the zillionth time),changing chipper blades, dumping chips, yadda yadda yadda.....
August, is that Aviation fuel? ... at 14:03 ? ... it looks blue.
Your videos should be playing at Vermeer dealerships. You guys make that sucker work for you so nicely. I hope you don't get tired of making videos. I haven't found a video on your channel that I didn't like and didn't watch from start to finish. Thanks August
hey whatever happened to the blacked out 880 with the 60 inch cannon bar?
Will the drone do autopilot? Like do a set shot?
I appreciate all the time you've put into these vids. It has re-energized my performance at work each day! You should enable viewers to pay you thru paypal to show appreciation! I'm serious. If you weren't spending all the time on the vids your poor wife would be pushing out a baby in the birthing tub every year like mine was. (8 kids!) You might still get there - women love tree men !!
It was all good even the strobe part at the end!
Keep up the good work August
really cool video and good job on the tree
What kind of friction savers are those?
U are a genius. I love ur videos.
What is your method for terminating the rope at the mini loader? I couldn't make it out in the clip.
What he SHOULD be doing is welding a bollard to the mini!!!!😜

Certainly appreciate the videos

me gustan mucho tus vídeos aunque no tengo ni idea de inglés.

nice work!!
The homeowner should dry out his firewood a bit longer. Been there August, inhaling that carbon.
stihlsavvy - Depending on other conditions, like barometric pressure, species, etc., you can still get thick smoke from even the driest of woods. For the PNW, that smoke looked pretty average.
nice "hollywood" ending!
righteous video. oak trees though, a love hate relationship.
Here's my opinion, and I barely know how to start a chainsaw.
Do what you want. Make the videos how you want. I enjoy your videos and I am thrilled to see what y'all are doing.
X was the best vid, I know it took you a long time to do. Shame it was removed.
It is a sickness!!! There's something wrong with all of us and it's awesome sauce!
You never did mean to make how to videos :)
I enjoy your videos for the entertainment mostly :)
I did many different types of work that can put one in harms way.
{LEO, Marine Captain, Auto Mechanic, Welder, Tree faller, light Arborist, Handy man, }
Details are important if some one wants to do certain work ; especially if done wrong can kill or serious bodily injury. (But your not making how to's)
Many times I seen people looking at me while working - like they are trying to learn something {I respect people trying to learn something new} ; I don't mind at all but depending on what I am doing I'll tell them if they have any questions ask me because there might be dangerous I'm looking for they have no clue about; they might be looking but don't know the science or forces being applied.
Element45 August has always tried to stay away from tutorials, with the exception of the speedline tips videos (a technique he probably knows more about then the vast majority of others in our line of work) if your looking for educational/instructional videos, Lawrence Schultz (Pfannerman) has created a series you will want to see and study called the schultz effect. details can be found on his youtube channel.
lol @ "it's a sickness"
not a laughing matter. it's a serious disease!😂
I've got it bad !
i prefer the slower stuff, inaf t id like to see more rigging ect.
but i understand getting children into trees is awesome!
Thanks for ruining part 3 COREY!
Haha. Ima show him that
that talking about how long ur vids are needs to watch the tree guy i watched last weekend he has a single vid. that was 4.5 hours long on one job taking down one tree-
hmm by hollywood i guess they mean axemen
I bet Corey is a lot of fun to party with.."NOT"
nice Video Serie! I have uploaded a new vid yesterday on my Chanel... greetings from germany!
Do your style of videos and accept that you will never please everyone. You could do 10 different videos of the same tree job and the haters will always hate. Be confortable in your own skin and don't worry about what people say. Maybe you should stop reading coments and just put out your product...your product not their product. Peace man.
skate vid......
