It says the F-102 reached Mach 1.5. I didn't know it could go more than about Mach 1.2. I also didn't know that they fired the MB-1 Genie nuclear rocket from the F-102.
I'm not sure about the MB-1, but I personally have loaded GAR11 nukes on this aircraft in the 1962 Cuban crisis. I was the B' man on a load team that was needed to help the missile guys during a quick mass load effort. My normal job was actually as a radar/ weapons tech. Only 60 years ago!
@@gerryg.302 I actually flew F-102s with GAR-11 nukes (renamed the AIM-26) during the Cuban crisis, out of both Elmendorf and Eielson in Alaska. Wow - that was a tense time -- and we flew with the nukes! My scramble intercepted a B-52 bomber which was off on its time to re-enter the ADIZ. He had been on Chrome Dome patrol and miscalculated his time to re-enter the Air Defense Identification Zone, so I intercepted him...
Delta wing craft benefit greatly from forward canards. Rotation pitch forces greatly reduced with no real detriment to over all top speeds. The 102A just needed a better jet engine, it would be interesting how the 102 would perform with the F 16's jet.

Worked on them for a year 66-67 avionics tech in Iceland - Keflavik NAS. 57th Fighter Interceptor Squadron. NATO base. Over 100 Russian intercepts as I recall. We were busy.
Seems like a pretty good score although that particular airplane had a bad reputation. aand the falcon missiles an even worse thank you for sharing Mr Eckert
