Mike Reno's voice and persona are right out of central casting. I love these guys, they're so genuine and those hard-driving songs, great guitars, they really bring it. That was so intuitive, watching people milling about at quittin' time and feeling that. Words won't suffice, and STILL together? A national, if not world, treasure.

In the 90s and 2000s there was a bar in NY that used to play Working For The Weekend every Friday on the dot, just as folks came in for happy hour. It always got the place singing and dancing, wish they would still play it now.
Loverboy should be in the Rock N Hall Fame. They sold millions of records and help keep the industry alive. Everyone knows a Loverboy song even if they don’t know the band.
I got to see Loverboy in a small venue in Seattle in the mid 90s called The Ballard Fire House. As the name implies, it was a retired fire house from the early 1900s. I think they brought all of their stadium amps. It was a wall of sound that penetrated every ounce of your body. They sounded amazing. I was useless at work the next day, but it was totally worth it.
Great song and want to thank Loverboy for allowing me to discover Huey Lewis and the News as their opening act. I think hearing Working for A Living is what really caught my ear. It's always cool to support a band before they make it big. Then it was cool to be turned on to Stevie Ray Vaugn and Double Trouble when they opened for Huey. If I recall Huey tells a similar story about SRV tell Huey about being bood during their set and Huey telling him to keep doing what he was doing.
It's one of those songs that can be described as Timeless!! The music video for this song was filmed at The Palace Theater here in Albany NY!! My oldest brother told me this!! He always sang this song in all the bands he ever played in!!
Great interview Professor, Mike is a great guy! I remember back in the day on Friday after work me and my buddy driving 3 1/2 hours to go skiing for the weekend and cranking this song, both of us singing as loud as we can lol! Those were the days!
My first ever Live Concert experience - Loverboy - outdoor at the stadium in Ottawa! The Drummer - Matt Fredette worked as a session drummer, and also played for other bands (Streetheart, Tom Cochrain, Headpins, and others... Kim Mitchel? ) At summer concerts, I was never too surprised to see him behind the drum set for one band or another! He really worked hard! I met him (and Mike/Loverboy) once at a small bar venue on Elgin St. in Ottawa - Memorable night. Mike Reno threw a sweaty towel he had into the crowd dancing up front, and we all ran away from it!
Saw them at the Toledo Speedway Jam back in 1982? Oh what a time. We had such a great time. 8 banks, all Sunday and when it was done you were so wiped out, but the memories. They opened with "Turn me loose" and it delivered.
It’s always nice to hear about our favorite bands being team players together. Everybody on the same page. Greed overtakes, so many people and ruins, great musical partnerships. Thanks to Mike Reno for a great interview! We know who Ringo is, because Pete best was not a good team player, and not on the same page …
I've always loved Loverboy. Being in high school when the band was in its heyday it was always part of the radio and my own music during that time. I love When It's Over, For You and Turn Me Loose. Working... almost got to the "I hear it all the time so I don't like it" list but it was such a great song that it stayed off that list. Mikes voice is such a great instrument and his duet with Ann Wilson on the Footloose soundtrack is iconic. Great video Professor.
Mike Reno has astronomically great vocals. His vocals paired with Ann Wilson on Almost Paradise are two unmatched powerhouses wrapped up in one of the best duo ballads ever.
This was such a great tune back in the day. I was an undergrad when it came out and it was a near anthem. Yeah, I was listening to some far heavier stuff, but it was a cool song. It was on the radio and MTV constantly (great video in the early days of MTV). Great memories. Mike Reno gives grest interviews, btw. Great sense of humor, sometimes quite self deprecating, and some great stories from back in the day. "Take me to the Top" is a cool song they did in the early days. Check it out folks!
Lived on Vancouver Island at the time.... remember them playing in a bar in Victoria but couldn't get in..... LOVE these guys..... some all-time classics from those boys.... where's the headband Mike? Mike is a great ambassador for rock and Canada.... He's Canadian through and through....
Loverboy was my second concert ever (first was Pat Benatar) and I'm sure the energy in that show (Red Ryder was the opener - Tom Cochrane is a treasure) is what hooked me on live performances. Still one of my favorite bands!
Best weekend, road trip and party song ever!! Always loved Loverboy and WFTW is often part of my party mix tapes (and now Bluetooth lists). Great interview as always!!
Remember washing my first car, a 74, Camaro and detailing it on Friday afternoon getting it ready to go cruising to l" look for girls" on the strip in the eighties, lovef this song as a teenager! Nothing like getting of work on Friday, hearing this song, thinking about the girl you talked to the weekend before going out to find her agsin and hope things progressed!! I never knew this band was Canadian until i was in my twenties!! Love them!!!
Loverboy with Zebra was my first concert. The magic began when I realized that I was sharing a room, sharing the air, with one of my favorite bands. I've always loved Loverboy. After Hurricane Irene tried to drink our home, and swallowed my record collection, one of the first records I replaced was "Get Lucky." (Oh, that tush!)
I remember the Get Lucky album really well… My 8th grade teacher had the cassette and was a mega fan of Loverboy… Through out the day he gave us a choice to listen to music or have it quiet… Being a teenager in the early 80’s we lived on rock & roll so we always chose music… This might sound like exaggeration but we heard the entire album Get Lucky at least 8-10 times a week! I can tell you by the time June came around, I still loved the album and to this day I remember the lyrics to every song! I’m grateful that our teacher was a big fan… Loverboy is awesome! I would love to meet and talk with Mike Reno… thanks for sharing the interview Professor!
Funny that I’m watching this on a Monday 😩 I loved how my favorite radio station growing up played the intro to Thank God It’s Friday by Love & Kisses leading into Working For The Weekend every Friday afternoon.
Another magical concert I went to was called “The Super 70’s Show!” Loverboy, Trooper, BTO, and April Wine; FM and Harlequin couldn’t make it. I was sitting on the fringe, and a few of the boys from Trooper came out to watch the rest of the show. They sat down right beside me!
"Working for the Weekend" is the tune that on Friday afternoon, right after work, you play it in your car as you leave, with the volume turned all the way up. There was a man named Murry Sol. He worked for WMMS (Cleveland) In the 1970x very Friday at exactly 5PM he would do what we called "the get down man. In the 1980's he went syndicated and I could hear him do it in Atlanta. Part of the routine was to play "Working for he Weekend " and "Friday on My Mind". Murry has passed, but his bit still lives on at 5PM on Fridays, every now and then. So, when I hear this tune, I crank it up, and sing along. ;-)
I was 12 when Get Lucky was released. Loved it then, love it now. Time machine, man! My first rock concert was Dokken opening for Loverboy in 1986. Great show. Great times. Great memories.

I was "lucky" enough to see Loverboy in 82 and again in 04. My favorite band of the 80's.
Well, when you're legendary and much of a hotshot of your time, I guess there is no such thing as mistakes. Only happy accidents!
I saw Loverboy in Portland OR in 1986 -- the Hooters opened. Thanks for all the great memories!
This man has so much talent
Mike Reno has astronomically great vocals. His vocals paired with Ann Wilson on Almost Paradise are two unmatched powerhouses wrapped up in one of the best duo ballads ever.
This song, and Livin’ It Up(Friday Night) by Bell and James from 1979, are 2 of the best songs about the weekend!
Canadians are famously nice people and Mike Reno is the nicest Canadian! Kinda guy you’d love to have as a neighbor.
Loverboy was my second concert ever (first was Pat Benatar) and I'm sure the energy in that show (Red Ryder was the opener - Tom Cochrane is a treasure) is what hooked me on live performances. Still one of my favorite bands!
Great musician, great interview, and seems to be a great guy too! Thanks Adam!
Best weekend, road trip and party song ever!! Always loved Loverboy and WFTW is often part of my party mix tapes (and now Bluetooth lists). Great interview as always!!
The great Mike Reno and Loverboy. Thanks for the video.
His voice is still awesome today !
Saw Loverboy and Trooper together January 2020. Amazing concert and fantastic Canadian bands from the West Coast
love Loverboy!
brings back memories of hanging out with my girlfriends and listening full blast while driving around our small town
Saw Loverboy at Milwaukee Stadium in 1982 as part of the World Series of Rock. They owned that show completely.
Omg …. The sounds of the eighties!! Saw them while in the US Navy at Hampton Coliseum with the Hooters in 1986! What an awesome concert!
Iconic song for the eighties. All the radio DJ''s played it on Fridays around 4 or 5 PM. 😊
Source of local pride, Loverboy. 🇨🇦
Loved every minute of this episode.
Great interview. I remember watching the videos and wanting to be this guy in high school. Loved all loverboys music.
Great band...A sound track to my teens..Turn me loose with that opening bass riff gets me everything, my favorite
I LIVED IT, WHAT A TIME TO BE YOUNG
So true. I'm always working for the weekend. And i LIKE my job, but the weekend is MY time.
Funny that I’m watching this on a Monday 😩
I loved how my favorite radio station growing up played the intro to Thank God It’s Friday by Love & Kisses leading into Working For The Weekend every Friday afternoon.
Another magical concert I went to was called “The Super 70’s Show!”
Loverboy, Trooper, BTO, and April Wine; FM and Harlequin couldn’t make it.
I was sitting on the fringe, and a few of the boys from Trooper came out to watch the rest of the show. They sat down right beside me!
Loverboy is a top 3 band for me. #1 Canadian band for sure!
Back in the day, the rock radio stations played WFTW precisely at 5 PM on Fridays. Good memories!
I like his sense of humor!
Heard Working for the Weekend for the first time in Herbie: Fully Loaded. Been hooked ever since! Great song!
The "Marlboro Man" part is great!
Mike is such a nice guy !!!
So, when I hear this tune, I crank it up, and sing along. ;-)
Working for the wknd one of my favorite songs
I got to see Loverboy last year, those dudes rocked the house !
I saw Loverboy a couple of years ago. They are great live!!!!
I was 12 when Get Lucky was released. Loved it then, love it now. Time machine, man! My first rock concert was Dokken opening for Loverboy in 1986. Great show. Great times. Great memories.
My daughters very first concert was lover boy and Kansas, what a show
Saw them back in ‘83. Great concert, probably 20 feet from the stage.
Totally agree that "Working For The Weekend" is greater than its chart position.
